I'm trying to get a European Opera House come to life as a UB for the Austrian civ (replaces theater)... and NO, that doesn't mean "use the Sydney Opera House" either.

I'm looking for something very Austrian... not Australian.

Ekmek has come up with something of an opera house... it doesn't seem to work in Nifviewer, but it does come-up in-game.

Download Here
Spoiler :
Code:
		<BuildingArtInfo>
			<Type>ART_DEF_BUILDING_AUSTRIAN_OPERA_HOUSE</Type>
			<LSystem>LSYSTEM_2x4</LSystem>
			<bAnimated>0</bAnimated>
			<fScale>0.28</fScale>
			<fInterfaceScale>0.44</fInterfaceScale>
			<NIF>Art/Structures/Buildings/Opera_House/Opera.nif</NIF>
			<KFM/>
			<Button>,Art/Interface/Buttons/Buildings/Courthouse.dds,Art/Interface/Buttons/Beyond_the_Sword_Atlas.dds,1,7</Button>
		</BuildingArtInfo>
Here is an in-game screenshot of the Opera House (bottom center structure... mostly off-white) as it is now.

Maybe it's just me... but it could use some more color or something... it just seems to stand-out too much.

It's tilted off-axis with the rest of the city and I think it's overall "too white"... the download doesn't come with a DDS, but rather a TGA file... I'd like to do something more with this, or have someone come-up with an all-together new Opera House that's more like the pictures in the top of the thread...

Dunno... maybe a little more help from the community!?!?!?

What say you all?

Yeah help is needed. no matter what i did I couldnt get the faces to map to the ther tgas (I was able to get multiple objects but when i tried to change the texture name in nifskope it changed all of them :confused:)

attached is the last blend, a bunch of tgas, and the 3ds. I got it from HERE at the google wherehouse.

The tilted axis can be corrected in the Civ4CityLSystem.xml, Wolfshanze.

<Rotate>[insert value]</Rotate] is the tag.

What say you all?

As you mentioned, the angle at which it is sitting is one of the things that makes it look "incorrect."

Also, the actual geographical location is unrealistic. It doesn't look as though it's been built there to add to the rest of the city - perhaps it should be closer to the outskirts (either the near-side - as the camera is looking - of the aqueduct, or perhaps to the top-left of the building with the red flag?).

Similarly to what you said, the highlights and the shadows don't have enough contrast on the building itself - the light parts are perhaps not light enough, and there aren't enough dark parts. This gives it a more one-dimensional feel and gives it the appearance to just be "sitting" on top of the terrain rather than blend in with it.

Finally, the building doesn't cast a shadow - I think this would instantly bring it to life!

Please take this as constructive criticism - I'm going from a purely aesthetic point-of-view, and have no idea how any of this would actually be created. :(

EDIT: Also, the palette of colours themselves are too vivid. Perhaps this is just due to a lack of shading and highlighting, or perhaps there is a little too much hue in the colours used? It feels rather too modern for it's surroundings!

I imported a Google 3D one again, converted the textures, made it a bit shorter, realighned it, so it has the same orientation as other buildings and added a shadow.
The render is from max - i am a bit in a hurry, so did not tried it ingame yet, but i don't expect any trouble.

Should use the same scale as Christian Cathedral - i scaled/alighned on that one as reference.

Now that's what I'm talking about... so say we all!

I altered the scale a little bit... used the following scales:
Code:
<LSystem>LSYSTEM_3x3</LSystem>
<bAnimated>0</bAnimated>
<fScale>1.85</fScale>
<fInterfaceScale>0.52</fInterfaceScale>

I have checked it out in-game and it's definitely what I was looking for... thanks Refar, I consider your model exactly fitting the bill.

Oh... and don't forget the matching button!

Ekmek, thanks for getting the ball rolling... that's what a team can do on a board! Refars final work produced just the look I was searching for... I consider this a fate accompli.

good work, Refar. I viewed it, here was not edit UV layer and old texture contain roof only :goodjob: I not catch it ;)

If I might add on it a bit - as I'm going to use this in TR (of course, only with Refar's kind permit), I tweaked the texture a bit to be more like Civ 4 buildings, as opposed to Google satellite view. Only texture attached.

I am guessing that this needs a re upload.

I have final results in my Wolfshanze Mod (see sig-line).

Okay, most probably I get blamed for necroing this, but where else should I ask this question if not here? So, does anyone still have this building so he could share it? All links seem to be down. Tried to load the Wolfshanze mod, but nearly the same: only a megaupload link is working, but that would take me 6 and a half hour to load... I'd prefer it if the building could be uploaded separately as I don't need the rest of Wolfshanzes mod. I can't even guarantee that I'll use this building, but it might be an option for my Magyar Mod as theatre art... Depends on how this building actually looks which is hard to say if there are no working screenshots...
