Welcome to my next RPC, REX Queen Cathy, No fury like a Woman Scourned. THese games are meant to be fun and hopefully educational. Here we plan to play a game where Catherine aggressive REXes as mush as her economy can handle (and probably more). We want to see if we can expand unlimitlessly peacefully and still build a stronge game. Imperialistic (fast settlers) and creative (fast border pops, fast libraries).

The flip side is this, Cathy is VERY friendly!!!! She will NOT expand by war, HOWEVER, if an AI ever DoWs on her she must completely destroy that civilization by the end of the game. She can bide her time, but can never trade nor open broders with that AI again.

So the rules

1) REX. Enough said!
2) Vengence. She's a woman, enough said!
3) During war she has the option of keeping cities which is preferred, but reserves the right to cast off useless cities.
4) All victory options open.
5) She can NOT intiate a war but can certainly use diplomacy and espionage to cause chaos (she's a woman after all!).
6) She is allowed to spin off colonies, especially if an archeopolego map pops up.

Settings

Standard sized Random map. I want some surprises here.
Random climate/water level
Marathon speed
Monarch difficulty.

Our REXing Queen.

And the start

That's one hell of a start, but then only the best for our REX maniac lady!!!! Seafood, happiness, war elephants!!! The Russian People will certainly love to see her strut herself upon those Jumbos ;)

I say settle in place, there's no need to ruin a great start, unless you want to let a second city get some of those resources. I think you should try to get a lighthouse up pretty fast, so you can easily whip settlers.

+1 and to add; you will need a healthy economy to finance your growing empire so I would grab the GLH pretty soon.

Incidently, I've just started a Stalin game myself on Monarch level. :)

I would settle on the plains elephants. With a camp the best that tile will ever be is 1:food: 3:hammers: 1:commerce: You get 2:food2:hammers:1:commerce: from the city center when yoiu settle on plains elephants. The grasslandtile that the settler is currently occupying has much more development potential. And the extra :hammers: in the center are huge this early. Plus it means you can put a more meaningful city on that pennisula without as much overlap. I would move the scout 1W to see if there is more seafood in those coastal tiles. If not then you have more workable tiles if you settle 1N

My initial response is to say NO and have the option of working the elephants. Then I remembered that damned island from the last RPC and figured I'ld here about it for a week!

Just kidding, actually I think that's a good idea. It would certainly get us more land and three seafood resources ar eenough to keep Cathy well fed.

I am shadowing this for a little bit. The spoiler is safe once you have explored your immediate surroundings.
Are you following my Playing the Traits game?

I built a city similar on a penninsula. Less trade commerce but lots of production.
Spoiler :
Count the hammers Princess. I have my happy Mocha Island now so i will leave you in peace. Try and recall the horrible production you had on your little island before Mining Inc. I have 12 hammers at size 5. Imagine it full grown with a forge. It will be a beast. A commerce cranking ship building beast. It maxes at 27 base hammers with all workshop modifiers and a railroad on the mine. Not to shabby for a little island. I will probably make it a science city. Even without the colossus It hase a lot of commerce and all it's trade routes will always be intercontinental.

Scout move 2NW, grabbing hut. If nothing particular is SW, ( I see coast...?), I might advice settling 1N, although inplace is fine aswell...

Took a look around in WorldBuilder

Spoiler :
That's a pretty awful starting island you've got there. And it's small and you're isolated...I vote for a regeneratation, what you got really does not fit into the "REX queen".

Regenerate

He could just cottage the elephant ;).

In this case I'd probably settle 1 N also after checking west with the scout.

REX Queen Cathy: Part I

OK, because of the spoilers I decided to play out the game a little bit to see how bad the situation. Spoilers are like a neon sign saying "LOOK, Mad you got an isolated start!" Which of course we do. I don't know but I think the land is actually a little better than Churchill's. Now I know we all wanted to see Cathy getting REALLLLLLLLLLLL close to those AIs, but there will time. I woman cannot be rushed, and Cathy likes to take her time!!!!! Welll, meeting other AIs she does, expanding is another issue.

SO I say the game is still on! Isolation means more land for her to claim fast and let's see how badly we can wreck the economy, IF we do. I am still of the opinion REXign is not that bad, especially in this situation. We need very little defensive support, so financially we will do fine. Of course Cathy can break out the whip and reduce the population!

SO onto the game

I decided to take Civcorpses advice (no not because Cathy doesn't want to listen to him complain, it was good advice!), we settled ontop of the Jumbos

REXA0000.jpg

We sent out scout arround and picked up

REXA0001.jpg

Very nice. Cathy is very pleased!

Techpath: Fishing/BW/wheel/AH and started Pootery (we need mega cottages here!).

After BW

REXA0002.jpg

And after AH

REXA0003.jpg

Looks like Barbs are NOT going to be much of an issue in this game!

The only question is WHICH horse do we claim first. Stone will help get the Great Wall while the eastern shore get's us lot's of good cottage spots. I always like teh Great Wall, especially when Imperialistic, but there are enough choke points where a few fog busters would suffice.

And the view of Moscow

REXA0004.jpg

OK, let's hear it!

I will replay the game if we all feel we are not getting enough REX with Cathy, no problem. But we have refined out isolationist skills with Churchill, let's see how we do settling every square inch of this continent!

Look in the southwest....Do you see an island? It's green. Do you see it. It's also round. NOW can you see the ^%#W&*(^$ Island.

I just want to be sure about this. Is there any possibility that a galley could bring you to another landmass? If no, then I vote do-over. If yes, then I think you have your opportunity to show how a crazy expansion loving civ would jump off its own island before even settling all of its own usable land.

If I cannot get off the area via workboat I don't think a galley will help.

I'll play out the game no matter what, I am sure there will be additional lands to "settle". Anyway we can still test out REXing via isolation and see how we do. LIke I said I am willing to play Cathy II regardless of the outcome of this game. Next time it will be a continents map though.

You can try to use border pops to find new lands. A decent # of LHC games allowed this to be an option, even though Rolo intentionally avoided being able to meet other civs that way. Creative should help with this. I'll play this too since it looks a lot more fun than having to raze cities in the Khan RPC (i'll get around to finishing that eventually).

@Madscientist: I really like your games, but I am completely incompetent on Marathon. Have you considered playing Epic instead, in some of your games?

You can just swap the speeds using a worldbuilder save. Edit it with notepad:

Gamespeed = 0
Difficulty = 0 if you want different difficulty
Max turns = 0 so the game doesn't screw up the # of turns (which is how I got a score of 290k with a late AP victory in his french rpc)

If you don't want to see the leaders ahead of time, make all playableciv=0 except the one you want to use.

It's pretty simple, unlike a lot of other things. I switch all of his games to epic that I play.

I want a replay. Especially since I FAIL at REXing.

REX Queen Cathy: Part II

OK, Cathy got to work bigtime here. Absolutely NO wonders, at least yet. Interefered with her two BIG points to make, Build settlers and build libraries. OH, and build lighthouses and just enough military for our needs.

We never let a single Barb city Pop up, and we killed TWO barb units, a warrior and an archer!

Techpath was fairly long here: pottery/writing (libraries ASAP)/agriculture/masonry/sailing/math/currency/mysticism/meditation/priesthood/monarchy/CoL.

So our first planted city.

REXB0000.jpg

Claim horses and stone, just in case we have some barb problems.

City #3

REXB0001.jpg

Copper and food. Good grasslands for either later farms from CS or cottages.

City #4

REXB0002.jpg

Good fishing city with 2 workable hills.

We got a GS which we used for an academy in the capital

REXB0003.jpg

Now, note Moscow we did NOT chop any forrests. With so many good early cities we can afford to turn it into a monster GP farm late with the NE and NP national wonders!!!!!

We added three more cities.

REXB0004.jpg

One to claim eastern horses and become a cottage city. One to claim that northern copper and eventually get cottaged river tiles. We will have the option of watermilling it and with levees we will have a pretty solid production city up there. And the last the island which has access to a grasland hill, we are building the Maori there.

After Monarchy

REXB0005.jpg

Cathy declines slavery. While she loves the whip she prefers not to kill excess citizans!

One last city

REXB0007.jpg

Garbage right now but slowly building up farmed plains and windmilling those hills we should be OK. Cathy is not too choosy where she REXes!!!!

A view of what's left in the north. I am thinking two more garbage cities up there, the faster they build up the better for us.

After CoL we surprise ourselves

REXB0010.jpg

We did not convert yet, but likely will. This will help alot as we can rely on religion and temples for happiness to limit our need for military and HR. Also I will throw a priest specialist into the GP pool and see if we get lucky for the shrine.

Not sure what to tech next.

REXB0011.jpg

My best guess is IW then Compass (harbors), but if we got aethetics we can still likely get a shot at the Great Library although we do NOT have access to marble and none of the cities are big production centers (yet). Construction get's us cheap colesiums for extra happiness. The there is MC for a shot at the colossus (Now that's a wonder Cathy can enjoy:D) and a good start down the optics track. And of course there is monotheism/theology for first crack at the AP. Lot's of choices here which is why I stopped.

And the cities.

REXB0012.jpg

11 cities by 150 BC! Is that REXing enough!!!! Libraries is most and markets underway in alot of others. OK, 2 more as I expect to find iron and oil up north.

One more thing, do we jump to Caste or not, means 2 more tirns of anarchy.
