So im Cardinal whatsit Vizier and kwp mentioned something about research before he left. So here is my view of what i believe should be happening, this is by no means the be all and end all and is of course open to debate (Whether just between our rulign faction i dunno how it works!).

Anyways.

Currently we can be running science at 50% whilst running a profit. This will probably increase a little bit when we hopefully whip Kassite (or whatever it will be called) for a granary due to decline in maintenance. However due to our production of troops and the war with Spain i imagine over the area i am considering that 50% will hopefully be the average we maintain for science throughout.

Now comes the change in my opinion which i have been expressing so far, instead of Feudalism i too agree that we should go and try and research Code of Laws, unless we can obtain it from Augustus before then. Following that i think we should research Civil Service. So tech plan=
Code of Laws (6 turns)----> Civil Service---->22 turns.

Remember that is at 50% with me not appointing any specialists. I assume also by the time we have got roughly halfway through Civil Service we will have accomplished all our war goals with Spain, so roughly 35 turns from now Spain will be dead/we wont need to be worrying about them.

However, i also believe we should appoint two scientist specialists in arete by removing the workers that were on the cottages (2) and appointing them as scientists, this only affects the growth of Arete by one turn and doesnt make any difference to any military production that may occur, in addition perhaps the next worker should work the farm so it can grow quicker.

The appointment of those two scientists decreases the time taken for everything.
Code of Laws(6)----> Civil Service (19)
Crucially, for me at least, in 24 turns around the same time as i imagine we'll be midway through war on Spain we shall be getting another Great Scientist. He should be used to bulb Philosophy for us. 10 turns after that we should switch to pacifism. This would be giving us 24GPP alone from 2 scientists. We would be getting another GS 22 turns after this one if we only kept with 2 Scientists. This Scientist can be used to bulb us paper and we are already well on the road to Liberalism.

So infact we have two tech plans going
---->CoL----CS as our actual research----Anything from a selection (i think MC or calender)
and then
Philosophy----Paper----Education (will require 2 GS)------Liberalism

Now, my primary research tech plan ends about midway through my bulb techplan. This is because there are technologies we need to research along the way so we can unlock liberalism as a technology for a scientist to bulb but also certain technologies we shouldnt research otherwise bulbing liberalism will be lost to us. We need to research (calender, Metal Casting, optics, compass and Aesthetics). Luckily by the time we have got CS the majority of these we can probably easily trade for or we can research relatively quickly anyway. However, we cannot research or obtain machinery until we have bulbed liberalism as by researching machinery we would have to bulb Engineering or Printing press before Lib.

So with two scientists alone we should have produced enough Great scientists in 109 turns. For Research alone we should also have researched all the tech (if we choose to self research in 69 turns.

All of these numbers do not include however, the growth in cottage production/cities/hiring of additional scientists if we choose to run Caste System (which after the war i would support), bearocracy, Spains cities, defecit spending, doesnt include what we are doing with the current scientist in Arete, personally i would support him making an Acadamy in Arkadia because Arkadia should flourish after the Spanish war so that'd be needed, especially if the rest of our scientists are busy elsewhere.

In actual events the time taken would probably be considerably shorter. The hiring of one additional scientist in Arete with Caste System for instance would mean we get another scientists in 89 turns whilst we would have researched all the tech in 67 turns.

There might also be some argument about building the national epic in Arete if we can get ahold of literature, i would not agree with this idea because the +1GA could mean we pop a great artist instead of GS which would mess up our whole schedule.

Now this may seem like a long time but if you consider just how much farter liberalism is up the tech tree (5 tiers!) then it can be understood. It would also mean we're the first to get to liberalism so we get a free tech and no-one else does.

So, that is my opinion on the future technological expansion of our nation. I have more views on Arete not being the only city contributing to the Great person/research fund but i figure i should let what i've already written soak in. Any questions/opinions/arguments?

edit- being able to take in the bonus of the acadamy means we get the techs researched nearly 20 turns earlier so we can feasibly help with the bulbing program or research other things (such as theology/feud) in addition.

Which save did you look at? The one posted by DaveShack? We have COnstruction already, right? (Am I going mad?)

I also expect us to hit Spain sooner, perhaps declaring next turnchat (11 - 20 turns from now) but at least the one after that (21 - 30 turns from now)

Yeah, i only just noticed that. I just took the latest on from the Save thread. I'll be about 10 minutes updating the numbers for the latest save but the jist is still the same

Mister "I made the save game index" forgot to post there, typical :)

Changed, everything should be ok- if there are any glaring mistakes then it was probably because of that.

Yeah i changed the plan to suit that, i was only thinking it would take so long as the save showed we didnt have construction. The changes should be apparant now. Hopefully it'll be 11-20 turns from now, i wouldnt like to delay the switch to pacifism/code of laws much longer.

Great layout on the tech-path. We need courthouses to help with the maintenance of our new cities and to beef up our EP's. So seeing CoL on your short list will make my dark agents very happy.

CoL finished, and on to Civil Service!
