1. Of the three CIV games, (vanilla, warlords, bts,) which one do you think has the best music - that is, which game has the music that is your favorite?

2. (This question may be a little harder.) Of all the good computer games you have played, which one has your favorite music? I'll tell you mine. The opening music of the trial version of Age of Empires 1 (it is a bit different in the bought versions. Not as stirring in the bought. You can still download the trial version of Age of Empires 1 at Microsoft. It still makes my adrenalin flow!) And I will always love the music in all the earlier versions of Civilization.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on both questions.

I think the music at the main menu in Vanilla is best, Babu Yetu I think it's called.

I love the music in Gran Turismo 3, the song at the video before the game goes so well with the video. I can't remember what it's called, but it was really good.

I must say that BtS has the best music, the opening menu is great and so is Willem's negotiation music.

of all other games, Homeworld has always astounded me with its music. One of the greatest songs is the Swarmer Battle music :goodjob: Many musics from Stronghold also come close.

EDIT: A link for anybody who wants to hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jzeQIJf4PE

I suppose Vanilla or BtS, my favorite songs are Baba Yetu, Justinian's Diplomatic music and Charlemagne's diplomatic music.

And for other games, I quite liked the atmospheric tunes of Half-Life 2 and Episode One and Two, and who could forget the song at the ending of Portal?

The Sims 2 also has some cheery and catchy tunes I like. And I'm a fan of the jazzy tunes from SimCity 3000 Unlimited.

But the best gaming music is often found off of the PC, I have found.

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Those are just some of the best tracks from those two games, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Super Mario Galaxy. Fantastic games (both in my top 3 favorites, over Civilization IV actually ) and fantastic soundtracks

Opening music of Warlords is great , though the opening video in BTS is better IMO. Tribal chants ftw for warlords music!

Best music in a PC game ever? Man, I can't even begin to pick. Some like starcraft I pick just because of the nostalgia with the game, though warcraft 2 probably had the best music of the blizzard games.

Does GH 3 Count?

"Still Alive" is impossible to beat and if mario is on PC then he takes a few more golds...

"The People are the Heroes" and "Baba Yetu" are all amazing civ songs.

And if we allow more of Sound Effects I must say the Cat Calls from Age of Empires 2 were the best things to cheer me up in the middle of a game.
"All Hail! King of the Losers!" "Monk I need a Monk!" "Blame it on your ISP!"

BtS has a really good music.

Best PC game music? Propably (IMHO of course) Railroad Tycoon II. That opening scene railroad blues specially...

Hmm, seems to be so that I like all kind of music with Sid's games...

Warlords opening music was my favorite - to the point where I've considered modding it in so I can hear it when I play BTS!

Not as big of a gamer as most, I imagine, but the music in DungeonSiege by Jeremy Soule was top notch.

A quick google search shows that Jeremy Soule was also the composer for:
Neverwinter Nights, KOTR, Guild Wars and Prey (among others).

Yes, Dungeon Seige had good music.

If you could only play one, (vanilla, warlords, bts,) which one would be your favorite for music? Why?

I love music in metal gear solid most actually, just thought of it there.

Most of the music in civ4 vanilla is total crap and i cannot even stand listening to it. It is the worst selection of music i have ever encountered in any game i have ever played! with the exception of the main menue song and 1 other which i like (i think in the classical era).

I did enjoy the music for civ3 mostly, so i can only guess that if the guy who picked the music for civ3 was the same guy that picked the music for civ4 then i can only assume that person must have had a brain operation that went horribly wrong inbetween time!!

The sector music for X3 is very nice, my favourite being Getsu Fune

I prefer the opening menu music of Civ IV vanilla

My favorite is Al Nadda from warlords. Best game music of all time goes to Total Annihilation, hands down. Best part of TA was the music would change according to what you did. If you were busy building up your economy it had soothing music, if you got into a battle it changed to more exciting music. 90 piece orchestra conducted by Jeremy Soule if I recall correctly.

I dunno if this really qualifies, since it was more like scary-thematic-sfx mixed in a musical way...
But I loved the music-sfx in Hexen. At 2-3am in the pitch dark, was enough to freak you out at times :-)

I remember that! But not at all suprising for a game that can get somone like James Earl Jones for the naration!

Babu Yetu has a spot on my iPod for a reason. I love that song.

As for favourite PC game music ever, I give that to World of Warcraft. Love or hate the game, the music is absolutly fantastic. Blizzard games in general have very good music (hell, very good everything) but the music of WoW goes far an above the rest.

I'm liking the Warlords opening theme at the moment. Then again, that's probably because I've just started playing Warlords so it's still new to me. Besides that, I quite like the music from Age of Empires II. Those taunts are hilarious too  (ICNP mentioned these before)
