Hey you people who don't use avatars! What's your deal?

I notice a lot of people, even seasoned posters choose to go avatar-less. Why would you do this? A picture is much more memorable than just your name, at least at first.

But your's is just a microphone. It doesn't mean anything...

It's an old microphone. In real life I like old radio stuff! It says something about my personality!

Not sure, I just don't want one.

Perhaps I see it as a sort of label or vain attempt to personify myself (or an interest) with an image.

I'm sure I'm overthinking it in trying to explain. Perhaps overthinking it is what makes me not want one.

Perhaps I just don't need all the shiny beads I'm offered.

:dunno:

I can't be satisfied with any that I can think of or find (such that it would suitably represent me)... kind of like women.

I just don't feel like it. On my laptop I still haven't changed the 4 year old and quite ugly Toshiba background that came with the computer.

I don't see what is the deal with someone not having it along with others having one. I find it does not give any real representation of the person's profile persona. It is simply an ornament like a picture on a wall in your house. Some people rather not have a picture.

Off topic
I find that encountering people in forums are not in the sense real as I would encounter a person on a street. It is an interaction that is totally taken place on a different medium.

I don't see the appeal. If anyone finds a picture of my name I like and tells me how to put it up, I suppose I will. I'm not that fussed, but really my name is all you need.

I like words. It's my posts that matter.

Those damn kids... Git off my laaawn!!!!

I use an easy to recognize avy so that I can quickly scan down the page to the last post I made to go on from there. Avys are only useful to me if people keep distinctive ones for a long time.

Only the smooth avatars are judged nicely and well.

All those non-chaotic ones?

Phfffft.

But in all likelyhood, it's probably to remain anonymous.
(you don't remember those letters as well as the picture)

Noone is forgetting me anytime soon.

Who needs an avatar when you got a catchy forum name?!>!>!!>??!?

Noone is forgetting me anytime soon.

Who are you again?

And I <3 my avatar. In four years, it's been this all but 3 times: fifty's avatar for two switches and a poppy for Remembrance Day.
