RPC Supergenius
welcome to my next RPC game. These are meant to be educational as well as fun! The last game, FDR's dream, was a complete success which had little competition from the AI. This time I hope to ramp up the difficulty with some tough RPC rules although we shall see how difficult this makes the game!
Ragnar is stuck in an Ice-Age world. Worse yet, his starting location has no grains, and thus no alcohol. Plenty of seafood and Beef, no hootch! The Viking people are very upset, frequently calling for Ragnar's horned head on a stake, and he certainly cannot let that happen. So our unbathed and slobbering leader has gotta find something for his people to consume, and fairly quickly at that! But the thing abount Vikings is that they go through alot of booze, and there is never enough, so Ragnar has gottcontinually find more. In fact, he has gotta control every single rice (sake), wheat (meade), corn (whiskey), and wine (vikings will drink anything, even that refined watered down crap) by the end of the game.
One other thing, Viking refuse to educate themselve as this takes away time from drinking, which is truely the only worthwhile thing in a Viking's life. So Ragnar can never build libraries/universities/observatories/labs. In addition, Ragnar cannot run scientist specialists, ever, and this includes representation (can you imagine the chaos of a slew of drunken vikings in congress or parliment. All other specialists are fair game. The ONLY exception here is if a captured enemy city retains an observatory (can you imagine drunken vikings looking at the starts!)
A wise poster once said that a CE needs only cottages and a granery. I plan to try this to excess. We shall to cottage everything we can to get enough commerce to eliminate the need of research via science.
So, onto the game
Settings
Ice-Age standard map
High water level, narrow continent for soem Viking naval action.
Monarch difficulty/Marathon speed
All victories open.
Rules
1) We must control EVERY rice/wheat/corn/wine resource in the game. And not by trade either.
2) No scientist specialists, ever. This includes the Great Library and any wonders that produce GSPs. If we accidently pop a GS from captured AI cities, please refer to Mao's atheist code for an explaination of what happens!
3) No science buildings (libraries/universities/observatories/labs). Monestaries are OK as the Vikings have heard rumors that the monks hide alcohol there, so I fear banning them is out of the question.
4) We plan to run a strong CE game, similar to the Persians in space although the Vikings are more than willing to work up a sweat to get their Booze. So watermills, windmills, lumbermills, and wokshops are OK.
5) Any grains corps are out. If the Vikings have no oil, they cannot found standard oil and are more than willing to walk rather give up the drink! The mining corps and Aluminum Inc are fine.
So here is our besotted leader
And the start
I think settling in palce makes the most sense.
