FarowNES III

This is a preview into the new FarowNES III which will provide a sample of my rules as well as see how much interest there is in such an endeavor. It is as discussed a fresh start earth NES. I tried to avoid the use of numbers which I always make mistakes with. So most of your stats will be descriptions of what is going on at the time instead of numbers.

Starting- Just fill in your nation’s name and description. Provide me an area where you would like to start on the map as well as the name of your capital city. For the first update it will be 2,500 B.C.E. and it will be history up to that point. After the first update your stats will be completely filled in the blank areas. All nations must start in regions that historically had some sort of civilization. I would prefer you start on regions bordering the Mediterranean Sea, Mesopotamia, Nile River Valley, Chinese River Valleys, and the Indus River Valley. If you start somewhere else I may make you change your starting area to somewhere more realistic.

Stats

Name:
Age:
Government:
Economy:
Army:
Navy:
Projects:
Description:

Age: This will be the technological advancement of your people. It is a general idea of how far your people have progressed technologically and culturally. Just because you are in the same age as someone else does not mean you are on equal technological footing. One nation may be more advanced in the use of weaponry as compared to another that has created a complex bureaucracy to manage a large area of land. Both are different levels of advancement and will affect your nation in different ways. I will try to provide a brief description here if your nation excels technologically in a certain area.

Bronze Age
Iron Age
Early Classical Age
Late Classical Age

Government: Your nation’s government will be put here. Try to keep it realistic to the time period as closely as possible. I will provide a description of how your government is managing your people. If it starts to decline you can face revolts, civil wars, and so on. I encourage players to use this feature to add to the story.

Economy: Your nation’s economy will be represented simply by a number. I actually will keep how I calculate your nation’s economy hidden to myself. It will not be a complex formula or anything of that nature. Simply, I will decide what numbers to give you depending on things are in your nation. I hope you that you trust me with this and if you think I missed something PM me. As most my players know, I am very open to criticism and will do my best to fix things.

Army: Your army is going to be simply put as infantry. I will draw of Birdjaguar’s NES for a little inspiration here if that is alright with him and provide a description of what your army consists of. A higher quality army will show with your investment into your troops with economic points. Tell me what you want your army to consist of and I will try my best to reflect your wants. However, if you want a certain type of troop it may require investment so remember that before telling me what you want.

-Infantry: 1 economy point will buy 1000
-Cavalry: 1 economy point will buy 500

Navy: Your navy will be pretty much the same as your army.

-1 economy point will be 5 ships.

Projects: Provide me a description of your project and your intended benefits of your endeavor. Your project will take a certain amount of economic points to complete. You can spend as many points as you like on it in one turn.

Description: Post your description here and I will do my best to update it for you. Of course you can update it yourself if you wish to have it done sooner.

Other

As I said investment will help a lot in improving an area of one of your stats. Expanding or investing too fast in one area can have unforeseen consequences.

Then for cities I am requiring the usual cost of your economy to build a city. Yes, I am keeping this in place because I am a horrible judge at the placement of cities on a real world map. Tell me where you want your city and the name of it. To build a city it costs one economic point.

At the end of each update I will add a few features to allow players see the top five most influential nations in six areas.

Highest Population
Largest City
Largest Army
Largest Navy
Strongest Economy
Most Influential Culture

If you want to make a unique culture that does not fit the current stats please PM me and I will do my best to accommodate you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is what I am thinking of using for my rules. Tell me what you think I should add or detract. I will use a basic world map for my NES. There is some great new ones out there I will consider using.

So what do you people think are you intersted?

Also, for all those in my last NES I will try to post the last update as some sort of conclusion when I get back from my trip this Saturday.

I'm interested. Can we start making nations yet?

I'm interested, kicking off in Egypt please!

Oh, and lets sort a real name for it!

If we can reserve at this stage, I will take somewhere in North China.

Name: The Hejaz
Age: Bronze Age
Government: Tribal Monarchy
Economy: [mod decided]
Army: A small trained force enlisted to protect the city of Mecca. During larger barbarian raids, peasants are conscripted for short term service. There is a mandatory conscription of every male for one year starting at their 19nth birthday.
Navy: Largely small trading vessels that putter around the Red Sea, with the occasional escort vessel.
Projects:
Description: Mere city-state in the RL location of Mecca. *more to come later*

Would that be a sufficient starting template? If I can't start on the Red Sea, I understand and I have several backup templates just incase :p

I like the rules :)

Name: City State of Thebes
Age: Bronze
Government: Religious Republic
Economy:
Army: Lead by religious blessed leaders. The soldiers are usually part full time soldiers. Part comes from farmers, who train as soldiers or work on monuments. The third group are craftsmen, the poor becoming revered archers. The Rich becoming the runners. (foot cavalry anyone?) and finally, a massive slave army. Most times only full time soldiers and farmers in the dry season are in duty. But the people are constantly trained. The men of the city constantly viligant.
(EDIT: if you don't understand. A group of soldiers are full time. Farmers either train part time or built monuments after/before the growing season. Craftsmen train the day before religous days. Slaves are drafted only before the craftsmen but after the farmers.)
Navy: River amy. Connection to red sea.
Projects:
Description: Mere city state on the Nile. The city of Thebes constitute a minor republic. They all vote due to the patron god of the city: god of equality. They often fight minor wars and due to the respect for the craftsmen they often do it for their sake. Winning mines and raw supplies. Now, they have a big future ahead or devastation? Only the gods know.

Any questions PM me. I though on this for a long time and decided to try it out.

A flag. A scyth for the farmers. Hammer for the craftsmen and ax for the troops.

Name: Viefelfrassztungpze
Age: Bronze Age
Government: Tribal Monarchy
Economy: [mod decided]
Army: Slaves that have been captured at a young age and then trained to be effective fighters loyal to the state. Other than that it's mostly peasants or other lowly men/women that have offered to fight for extra pay and recognition. There is a small group of mercenaries who will fight in places and ways unknown or not specialized in by the Viefelfrassztungpzestan. The army is only a small proportion in comparison to the sea and navy where these people truly shine.
Navy: Longboats and merchant ships that travel from place to place for trade and or slaves and loot that can be brought back to the main city.
Projects:
Description: Small island fortress with walls around it. It's people are a communal type who will often think of the group before themselves. This nation in large part is a maritime, trading, and defensive state. They won't attack often unless if provoked. Religion is shockingly and surprisingly not of the most important nature and is thought of not as important as the current environment. The animal that is most often seen as sacred is the wolverine who is on the nations flag as it represents the nations attitude.

The Viefelfrassztungpze economy is largely made up on the trade of amber, wood, furs, and fish. Despite this, they also have a strong masonry, shipbuilding, and smithing industries. They will most often send most of the resources they make to other nations for slaves, gold, and tech, rather than using the items they produce themselves.

There is no complex religion that they have as they don't really believe in any concrete gods or goddesses. They do however, believe in animism which they feel that each and every entity that is around as something that has some type of unquantifiable spirit. That is to not to say though that they are culturally simplistic, which is very far from the truth. These people place both learning, and philosophy of extreme importance where on every once a while the all of the villagers will have a meeting and discuss the discoveries, and philosophical ideas.

Lastly they put a heavy enpashis on the architecture and artistic value of everything they create. A great deal of the items and buildings they have are extremely ornate and have sophisticated designs. They do plan out their roads and city layout beforehand so that it has more perfection to it. They also have reorganized and managed the wooded areas within the city walls. These don't serve as a functional value but of and environmental and artistic value.

Name: Wu Chang Empire
Age: ______
Government: "Divine" Monarchy (ie- a monarchy based on belief in a god-king)
Economy:
Army:
Navy:
Projects:
Description: Wu Chang was a great general, who manages to carve himself an empire. He was an egotistical man, deteremined to make his legacy live on for all time. Exaggerating in the history books a mythological record beyond all reason, building statues to himself, and the like. How long this record would last is another question...

(NOTE: My Chinese in this context- is it poor or atroctious?)

God! I liked that flag...

New template here.

EDI: NWG your name literally means 'Never Long Empire' and each word also has hundreds of other ways to say it. Give quotes like 'this' and then I see if it is good or bad. Also. All kings are based on the Heavenly Mandate.

Okay, there is plenty of interest :)

I will get the real thread up today. As for all those who posted nations could post them again in the main thread. Thanks!

Or alternatively Egypt might not be united.

As for the issue of the name, it was supposed to be after a highly egotistical but also highly talented general that also happened to be king. As he was based on Napoleon, Wu Chang might be a subtle pun, but if it's a plausible Chinese name for a king it should work.

As for the Heavenly Mandate, that, WHILE in no way conflicting with my character concept, is not necessarily the case- depending on starting period, culture, and so on.

Slavic Siox, your nation is interesting idea but it may be a bit too far north.

As for Egypt I guess you will have to fight over it which should be fun :)

Argh, but thats just the starting point.. i dont really want egypt as such!

Hey: first intermediate period. After this the one who wins gets 200-400 years before the palastinians arrive: or not.

You have as such of southern egypt as you like, the mouth and suez area is mine!

I will join. :) I'm thinking somewhere on the Arabian coast of the Indian Ocean.
