Gamespot has posted a video of a conversation with Firaxis' senior producer Jesse Smith. The clip, two minutes and thirty-seven seconds in length, covers various aspects of the new Colonization game including the founding fathers system and the strategic depth available. The interview was conducted during E3, while 2K Games was showcasing Colonization. You can watch the video directly by clicking this link.

Also, 2K Games' Jason Bergamn posted on Apolyton with news of the 1994 version's availability. He wrote that the classic game will be available for free download online sometime soon and that it is compatible with various Windows installations, including XP and Vista. This should give players a good chance to try out the old game with no obligation to see if they enjoy it. When it is released, we will let you know!

Whats the freaking odds that the brillant people who released the latests patch will fix BTS for multiplayer first? Why is it they release patches that ruin multiplayer everytime? Do they test the patchs before the release? I for one refuse to buy Revolutions or Colonization based on the simple basic fact that I feel more effort has gone into these new games then BTS.

Love the game hate the support.

I'm glad to learn that the original Colonization game will be available for XP. I have it on a CD, but you simply can't play it well with Windows XP.

you can run it with DosBox, the re-release of original Colonization might come with DoxBox like Railroad Tycoon Deluxe did (was packed together with DosBox so you was able to play it at XP/Vista aswell)

I haven't had many problems with multiplayer BTS. Just OOS errors here and there, few and far inbetween. It's far from broken.

As for the original Colonization's compatibility...

The version of Colonization that comes with the PC gamer demo disc is a custom install of DOSBox.

It has an installer/uninstaller and should work perfectly with Vista/Windows 9x/XP.

We will be releasing it for free online in the near future.
Doesn't look like they'll ever address the annoying lock-up bugs, but it's definitely good to hear.

oos errors are the problem. Basically it has ruined earth games (huge maps) and from what I have heard it is a problem with smaller random maps as well. My point is there shouldnt be oos errors. When I bought the game no where in the manual does it say after updates I should expect to have games crash from people having to rejoin because of oos errors.
I dont mean to come off as being rude to you or the designers of the game. However, the last thing I want to hear about is all the work they are doing on a game that isnt even out yet when the game people have bought and paid for doesnt do as it should (uh work). Its not like we can just unistall the update in MP till they fix the oos errors either.

Awesome! A free legal download to play a classic game! That's really cool, I know I have the old disks somewhere, but none of my computers have a drive for them!

Sweet nostalgia here I come!

Excellent, I loaned my copy of colonization to a "friend" like 10 years ago & never got it back!
