Saint Rising Noble 001

Greetings, fellow Civers. It is time for a new sort of game. ...a noble game. Oh, I'm such a newb sauce, aren't I? Anyways, on with it.

Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Here is our leader! The glorious Genghis Khan! He is perfect for the game varient...

Varient: I'm a genuine prick! We must be the biggest jerks of all time. We shall do everything that seems like what a jerk would do. We will ALWAYS deny technologies and civic swaps to our neighbors. We will ALWAYS take the options in random events that really piss off our citizens. We MUST adopt the slavery(until we can have emancipation), police state, and state property civics. If one ally civilization asks us to declare war on one of our friends, we will, and if possible, later attack the civilization that asked us to attack in the first place. We cannot win by Space, since that's not really a mean thing to do. Diplomacy is right out as well. In general, we will do anything that will make us look like a genuine prick!

There is the set up.

There is our start.

Roster
1. Saint Rising
2. open
3. open
4. open

Open to anyone who wants to learn or doesn't mind playing on Noble.

EDIT: Ack, named this wrong. If a mod sees this, could they rename it to "SRN-001 'A genuine prick'"? Thanks.

I'd be up for this one, but I'd prefer if we upped the difficulty to Prince or Monarch. Usually with SGs it's good to reach a bit, since you'll have multiple eyes looking at the game and offering strategy.

I'm a Prince-sometimes-Monarch player myself, but being a jerk and playing on Noble was pretty much what I did when I first got the game :D And it wasn't that hard to win.

I'm a bit more impatient with micromanagement. That's why I play Noble. XD

Yeah, going up a difficulty level would work. However, I have no idea how to reset difficulty after the game's already started. Should we just set up a new thread and game altogether?

I'd say roll a new game, but keep the thread and edit the first post with the new difficulty/start.

I know what you mean with MMing. I get impatient when I play by myself too. Passing the game back and forth will slow down the pace though, so we'll notice more MM opportunities than we would if we were flying through on our own.

Couple questions:

--Assume we're doing BTS 3.17? Any mods?

--We probably ought to come up with a more specific list of what being a prick means before we start. For example, though we always deny swaps when they come to us, does that mean we can't propose swaps to them? What about limiting our happiness or demanding tribute every x amount of turns?

--How attached are you to our leader? What about Alex (Agg/Phil) or Ragnar (Agg/Fin)? It won't be long before nobody will trade with us, so it'd be nice to have one of the economic traits--and both are definitely genuine pricks. :D But Genghis is probably the biggest prick of them all, so staying with him is fine too.

Mmkay, and yes, we would have more. XD

Yeah, 3.17. I use blue marble, but its of course, optional. Past that, no mods.

Basically, the goal is to be the biggest . .. .. .. .. .. .. .s in the world. XD
We deny trades and swaps, but we can suggest them forcefully if we like.
Basically, anything we can think of to be jerks would work. Persecuting those of other religions, using spies and privateers, backstabbing, tribute demands, things that piss of our people, though limiting happiness has no factor as for the amount of resources we can have. The reason I initially used Mr. Doctor Professer Khan was because of the lower difficulty than most succession games. Now that we're a bit higher, we could use the extra boon, I agree. I'd prefer Ragnar over Alex, though. What do you think?

My thought was, if hooking up happiness resources or building happiness buildings give us additional benefits (e.g., increasing commerce in our BFC), that's fine. But if we spend worker turns or hammers just to make our people happier...that's too nice. Besides, it'll keep our city pops smaller and more whippable. :whipped:

I'd prefer Ragnar over Alex, though. What do you think?

Both have good UUs for early rushes to secure our continent. Ragnar would be about building a few cottages and coastal cities, beelining to military techs, and then going stomping.

Alex is probably more challenging. I'd think we'd want to prioritize founding a religion, since we can't run a Caste System specialist economy. We'd probably want to make runs at Mids/GLib/Angkor/Sankore/SoL (maybe it would be within the spirit of the variant to found a religion and declare on any unworthy scum who adopts it?). All this is somewhat dependent upon our terrain and winning AI races, would spend hammers that could go toward military, and would be less effective late in the game when we have to ditch Rep and Merc for Police and SP.

Both sound fun to me. We could also wait a couple days to see if there are any other takers and who they like.

You would reach more people if you announced the game in the registration thread.

I'm an emperor player so noble is a bit too easy. But I like Genghis and his hordes, so if you change to prince or monarch and need another player I'd like to sign up.

An advanced player might be a good bonus! We plan to go up a level of difficulty. Umm...yeah. ^^; Don't know if we're still gonna do Mr. Khan. I think he fits the bill of a genuine prick, but he doesn't have much of an economic bonus.

If we can decide on Prince vs. Monarch and Genghis vs. Alex vs. Ragnar, let's roll a start and see if anyone else wants in once we get going.

I gave a shot at a practice game with Alex on Prince the other day. By 800 BC I'd founded a religion, built the Pyramids, and wiped out Hatty with a Phalanx rush. On Prince, with a good BFC and limited ways to be a jerk in the early game, I don't think it's that hard to get off to too good of a start.

My two cents would be (since I think Ragnar > Alex > Genghis on how easy this variant would be), if we do Prince, let's do Genghis. If we do Monarch, let's try Alex. Open to other thoughts though.

Genghis on prince sounds more fun to me. Lots of opportunities for warfare.

(and do advertise this in the registration thread (the sticky one at the top of this subforum))

Sounds good. However, do you guys think we should start a new thread? This one looks rather stupid, plus, people will have to go through a lot of useless posting by us. For the sake of looking professional, of course.

If you do start a new thread, leave a note here and advertise in the sticky like yena suggested.

Looking forward to some Keshik action :hammer:
