With the new patch, I noticed that hotseat now allows for 11 civs to play (as opposed to the previous 8); equal to the standard number for single player.

What I've been doing lately is playing as 2 or 3 of the civs and fighting myself!

How's this for a scenario, playing as all three French leaders at the same time, and seeing which one of the three can win.

It sounds pretty intense. With a full slate of AIs? Sounds fun enough. Personally, I'd worry at the length of time that would take to play out. Do you finish these games? How do you normally win?

I tried something like that when I was researching and catalogging results from scouts.

It became too long and involved for even me, and eventually I abandoned all but one of the civs to the A.I. .. It's not just that it takes 8 times as long... wars are painfully slow when you know everything the enemy is planning, and vice versa.

Actually, you can play with 18 civs now. I just play 2 or 3 of them (rather than all 18) so that I can experience more leaders more quickly.

What I'd like to try once, is to:
1. Start a single player game in hotseat mode.
2. Eventually found a colony.
3. Assume control of both my original Civ, and my colony.

Does anyone know if this is possible? I don't like how the AI governors give away my monopoly techs, and maps. I don't want them to sign open border or trade agreements . I don't like the way they rule their cities. Etc...

One possible exploit (which I won't use though)... Probably the WFYABTA counter is reset for colonies.

So... Can I found a colony, reload my hotseat game, and play my colony with a 2nd player?

No.

Maybe you can find a saved-game editor that can change the human/ai tag. They had that for the previous civ versions, but I don't know for civ4.

That's a cool idea though. I'd like to manage my colonies too.

New update for this thread. With the new dll with the newest 3.17 patch, you can now take hotseat up to 50 civs.
