Any ideas when the patch is coming out for this great game. I`ve ben playing it on and off but don`t want to finish a game as i hear there a lots of bugs involving REF armys. Getting a bit fed up of being a Beta tester for PC games lately

So you got fed up from "hearing there are bugs" ? :dubious:

Maybe you should try Dales patch. It fixes the most outrageous issues.

I am not aware of any info on an official patch. This doesn't necessarily mean something of course.

I'm very disappointed in Firaxis. We all know that they visit this forum from time to time, the least they could do is to say "Take it easy, we're working on a patch".

I've installed the original Railroad Tycoon again the other day and realised how fun gaming can be. Isn't it strange that such simple gameplay can be so much more addictive?

Ah, yes! The original Railroad Tycoon. I loved that game.

:goodjob: Dale's patch. :goodjob:

having been a long time customer of the civ franchise since civ 1, the complete lack of any sort of response what so ever on this game is making me pause and think a little harder about buying anything from them in the future.

so far.. honestly, besides the graphics and sound, freecol is a better playing game.

I paused and thought a little harder after buying Railroads! But I didn't imagine Firaxis could mess up yet another established franchise, and then fail to fix it.

I, for one, am not buying anything from Firaxis again. The unplayable quality of this game, and the complete lack of support for it thus far is just unacceptable for a AAA company. It's just pathetic that the 15 year old version of Colonization is superior to the new version.

In all the weeks since the games release, all it would have taken is someone, anyone from their company to say they are aware of the issues and are working on something. They do use these forums essentially as their official ones (since they don't even bother to make official forums) and it is just amazing they've said nothing.

In my opinion, Firaxis has become a company devoid of any originality, making money off of clones of decade-old games they hold the IP over and clearly in this case, showing almost no support for their customers.

Just a quick word from Firaxis would do.

In fact, all I really need from them right now is a single letter. Viz:

When, roughly, should we expect to see a patch for Colonization?

a) Days from now

b) Weeks from now

c) Months from now

d) Probably never

Which is it, fellas? All I'm asking for is a one-letter response.

Yeah, it's sad to say it, but you're absolutely right.

you know.. i was thinking about it the other day after i posted here, and it struck me what part of my angst is with the way this colonization mod has been done.

when i first heard of it and got a few details about how they were modding the civ4 engine, which, IMO is a damn good engine, to make colonization, i also immediately though that .. hey.. maybe next they will make a new alpha centari based on the civ4 engine as well.

but after seeing how poor the user interface is within the city screen, other issues, and their complete lack of feedback, it has dashed all hopes for a good alpha centari remake as well.

Guys, just use the unofficial patch. It is playable, winnable, and I have enjoyed the few games that I have played (RL prevents me from sitting in front of a computer playing games all day).

Just don't get cold feet when the REF is landing. It's supposed to be massive and freak you out. You are supposed to lose colonies, fight in the fields, and recover your territory after the bulk of the REF has been dispatched. It's not supposed to be easy.

I'll have to agree with this. The patch resolves quite a few issues with the game. There are still a few pieces I don't like (horses costing as much as guns frex) and the annoying bit about my ships appearing at the poles... but it's very playable and enjoyable.

Of course, I wish you could set the game for more turns...and have alternate victory conditions...but that's not in the game as it is.

And I'm still holding out for Alpha Centauri II.

to all who are awaiting the patch

Just have a try with Dale/Snoopy's mod, fixes 90% of the major problems.

Red Alert, I'm thinking about the same thing with horses, I think guns could use a notch up one and horses down one.

Anyway : I'd love it even if they just gave us a half hearted effort at Alpha Centauri. I know we would mod it to fix whatever they don't get to playtest :)

I keep checking here, and other places every 3-4 weeks; it's so sad it's almost funny. Companies like Stardock/Ironclad, they talk to their customers almost every week. They have already had 2 patches and a quick fix out for Sins of a soloar empire (that's 7 patches in 9 months) since I've purchase CivCol2.

The next time I see ANYTHING from Firaxis I won't buy it till I see several months of good things on the forums.

Dales patch is great, which makes it even sadder that the company that MADE this game should have done long ago what Dale has. . .

If you paid Firaxis $5 over 6 months for this game, instead of the $30 up front, I PROMISE you, they have replies on the forums and quick fix patches up the first week it was out.
