This is my first attempt at cut and paste to create some cities. I'll call this one a contemporary American town/city/metropolis. It starts as a small town centered around a church. The church stays as the town becomes a city and then a metropolis. I used rather compact cities for my first go, not the large sprawling kind that have become popular. Instead of walls the town errects a barbed wire barricade around it.

I tried the graphics in game and they seem to work OK. Let me know if there are any problems I haven't forseen. Granted it's my first attempt at city making so I'm sure there are improvements that can be made and tricks that could be used to make them better. So let the critique fest begin!! :mischief:

EDIT: Also a special thanks to Ares de Borg. I used some of his terrain for the patches of ground under the city buildings.

OK. This is a contemporary Greek (or mediterranean) city set. This set incorporates an improvement in the metropolis graphic suggested by Vuldacon. Instead of being surrounded by dirt the metropolis has paved roads with sidewalks. Once again, thank you RedAlert and Aion for the buildings and Ares de Borg for terrain background.

I did one more city set just for fun. This one is a military base graphic to replace the normal city. All city sizes use the same graphic. The "walled" city has a yellow flag in the middle to denote the city has a defense bonus. Other than that all the cities are identical.

And here's an ingame pic, again using the Middle Ages scenario...

I just have one question about I the first city set in the modern era: were you thinking of adding any roads? Mainly on the southwest side?

Or was that supposed to be an open field?

They look good very nice though.

I like them Gary! The first town especially, very generic, it could be use anywhere from the American Revolution to the days of the Oregon trail to the contemporary look you had intended. :)

Personally I think the last two versions would make great concentration camps, maybe pre-placed for graphics in WWII scenarios or something.

Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to do roads yet. But I agree a road coming out of the SW side would be ideal.

These sets are nice! You've put the new buildings from the buildings thread to good use. Do you have a version of the base without the barbed wire?

Be sure to check out the OP. I just added a new set of cities to the first post just below the contemporary American ones. Thanks Vuldacon for his suggestion on improving the metropolis graphics! :king:

EDIT: Also the contemporary American city graphics have been improved with streets. The new file in the DL database is called ContemporaryAmericanCitiesImproved.zip. So if you haven't DL'd it yet please be sure to get the improved set! :)

These are great city graphics, Gary! I like how you've managed to take very different buildings and combine them to get just the right look. You have a great sense of building placement and spacing, making these city sets all the more aesthetically pleasing. I'm glad you figured out how to do roads too. And especially, I like the concept of having military base / concentration camp style cities. Really cool!

No problem, & thanks! I'm looking forward to any future sets you may do.
