Is anyone actually afraid of these guys?

A wise military commander never underestimates his opponent, least they exploit his arrogance.

In other words no, but let's not stop the paranoia because it is so beneficial to the military-industrial complex.

Communism should always be feared. It is the mortal enemy of freedom loving people everywhere, and as long as it exists on this earth, we are not safe.

North Korea is not communist, but it is totalitarian so I suppose the difference is negligible :)

You think North Korea poses no kind of military threat to anyone?

This is all that needs to be said

Nobel Prize winner Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was asked to account for the great tragedies that occurred under the brutal communist regime he and fellow citizens suffered under.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn offered the following explanation:
“ Over a half century ago, while I was still a child, I recall hearing a number of old people offer the following explanation for the great disasters that had befallen Russia: 'Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened.'

Since then I have spend well-nigh 50 years working on the history of our revolution; in the process I have read hundreds of books, collected hundreds of personal testimonies, and have already contributed eight volumes of my own toward the effort of clearing away the rubble left by that upheaval. But if I were asked today to formulate as concisely as possible the main cause of the ruinous revolution that swallowed up some 60 million of our people, I could not put it more accurately than to repeat: 'Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened.' The majority of Swedes have forgotten God too, but theres no Swedish gulags yet...

Oh wow. Did you just quote Conservapedia as a source?

I believe I'm smitten with you

I'd love to see North Korea collapse, but somehow the place is still standing, living dear leader or not. Playing with nukes is stupid and while I don't expect much out of them it's not as if it would be impossible for them to make a working and effective bomb, but I still doubt they'll get far. At least I hope.

I... wouldn't exactly put it that far. And Conservapedia is probably as fair and balanced as RationalWiki.

Don't be an equatist.

The South Koreans are, and rightly so.

The North Koreans could obliterate most of Seoul in a matter of hours (and probably kill millions in the first hour.. at least)

South Koreans are also secretly pursuing there own Nuclear weapons.

Let us please remember that this...

...is a half hour's drive from nutty coo-koo Kim Jong Il-land, with literally 10,000 artillery pieces pointed in its direction.

You think North Korea poses no kind of military threat to anyone?
Yeah, they pose a small threat to those in their immediate vicinity if they are sufficiently provoked, but I also think that threat is highly overblown by those who want you to live in fear so you will vote for them. And those very same people are deliberately provoking NK and Iran for exactly that reason.

Didn't we learn anything from the aftermath of 9/11, and the illegal invasion and occupation of a sovereign country based on deliberate lies and deceit? And now you want to do it again? Perhaps even twice?

Yo, I said nothing about invading North Korea. It would be a humongous blunder to waltz through the DMZ or carpet bomb Pyongyang without anything less than a DPRK pre-emptive strike. Same with Iran. Just because I disagree with you it does not make me a gun totin' bible thumpin neocon with a hardon for watching bombing runs on CNN.

Also, the military statistics of North Korea are pretty much furnished by the North Koreans themselves, and it's backed up by Chinese, Russian, South Korean, Japanese, etc intelligence. Small threat to you must mean something different than it does to me, because even though the working efficiency of those artillery pieces just north of Seoul might be exaggerated...it's still a humongous threat.

Also2, numbers wise, the North Korean army, navy, and airforce are rather large. Whether victory would be assured in the long run is not important, by then damage conceivably done to South Korea would be severe.

Also3, how exactly is the US provoking North Korea?

I am a godless person. Am I to be smitten in some poorly conceived crusade?

Correlation does not equal causation. All of the casualty figures in that article refer to so called 'Communist' regimes. These totalitarian regimes, notably Russia, denied faith not because of a rational rejection of god, but merely because they denied any power higher than themselves. If atheism causes people to throw morality out the window, why are atheists not running around murdering folk in the streets right now?

Nor does this article provide any estimation of how many people might have been killed in religious conflicts throughout the years, while the number of people killed by 'athiests' has such as hilarious margin of error, it is effectively useless for any comparison.

Please do not try to justify your faith with ridiculous scare tactics; there are a number of religious, conservative people on this board which I have come to respect greatly despite our differences, but posts like this only make you look foolish.

Hey, Crusader9, are you being sarcastic? You're knew here, and first impressions mean a lot. In short, are you a Fifty or a Pannonious?
