The Origins of War

1600 AD

Egyptian General Ramses is in his quarters on board the ‘Light of the Sea’ contemplating his orders. The German coast lies just over the horizon and Ramses has been given the order to invade and take the city of New Berlin. Ramses is not afraid of war but is hesitant about becoming the first Egyptian General to start a conflict with another power. Egypt has always been a peaceful nation, although two wars with the long forgotten Japanese began as defensive actions. Also, the wars that captured former Roman holdings, as well as his birth city, Pyrmidia (formally known as Veii), were instigated by the Romans, who have since become a province of Egypt. Why then does Cleopatra, the third of that name, wish to bring war to the Barbarians of German?

The answer can be found many years ago. Cleopatra’s grandmother, Cleopatra I discovered the bliss of fine German wines, and German furs were found scattered throughout her palace. During the reign of Hapatut, Cleopatra I’s daughter, the price of these fine German luxuries climbed higher and higher after each treaty ran its course. Knowing that one day, Egypt will be unable to afford Germany’s demands, an expedition was sent forth to settle a lone island off the coast of Germany. There the city of Frutopia was settled and founded and the staging point for an invasion of Germany was established. During the following years, Egyptian ships set sail for Fruitopia carrying the elements of the largest army ever assembled. This army is now in the ships of Ramses fleet, as the coast of Germany grows closer.

-----

Tutman, the governor of Fruitopia, sits along the battlements of his city watching his musket troops drill. These men know that once war with German beings, Fruitopia will bear the brunt of the German counterattacks. As he watches his men, movement out on the fields to the north of the city catches his eye. He turns and sees a regiment of troops marching his way. The battle flag of the German Empire can be seen blowing in the wind as the troops advance.

-----

The Egyptian Royal Courier is escorted into the German Chancellor’s office. Bismarck looks up from his desk and demands to know what this intrusion is about.

“Your excellency,” begins the Courier. “Her royal highness, Queen of the Egyptians, demands that the German military to leave the isle of Fruitopia at once.

“You Queen demands this of the mighty German Nation? Does she not know that this island of yours is located inside German waters? This island belongs to Germany and we wish the Egyptians to leave.”

“Your Excellency, Egyptians settlers arrived and settled the island. Germany held no claim on the land.”

“Does your Queen understand that Germany can take what she wants? Our muskets are much more accurate than Egyptian ones. Let me demonstrate.”

With that, Bismarck picks up the loaded musket near his desk and fires at the Courier. The bullet strikes the Courier in the chest and he is dead before he hits the ground. “Tell that woman that we are at war!”

-----

The German Regiment on the outskirts of Fruitopia attacks the city, unaware that the 2 new regiments of muskets had arrived the previous day. The German bowmen, expecting a single regiment of pikemen, are thoroughly routed. Thus begins the war between the two greatest and strongest civilizations in the world.

Near the German city of New Berlin-

Ramses’ Fleet reaches the shores of Germany and his entire army is off loaded just to the south of the German Wine producing city of New Berlin. German troops are nowhere to be seen as the assault begins. One of Ramses’ trusted colonels, Khufu, leads the charge into the city and brings the head of the German Governor back with him. Ramses awards him the covented ‘Hero of the Empire’ medal. A medal that has been awarded twice before, the first time to one of Ramses’ forefathers. Khufu is sent back back to Frutopia to assist in the construction of the Winter Palace as Egypt attempts to establish a strong presence on the Germanic Continent.

Ramses does not let up the attack as he orders his army to press north from Khufu, as New Berlin is renamed. Ramses wishes to make it as far north as possible before the German army responds and the German winter sets in. The city of Salzburg must fall, as per her Majesties wishes. The two wineries captured at Khufu is only half of the goal. Ramses looks over the maps and knows that the key to victory at Leipzig is the taking of the city of Dortmund, so his army marches slowly north unware of the events around the globe.

-----
Berlin –

“What,” screams the German Chancellor at his Military Aide. “The Egyptians have landed an army and taken New Berlin and are marching north. How could this happen? They knew nothing of our designs on Fruitopia!”
“It appears that the vile Egyptians were planning on invasion. This quick assault so soon after are declaration of war is proof we need to get others to join with us against the deceitful Egyptians.”
“But who? The Americans and Aztecs have been fighting each other for centuries and…”
“Yes. Those two barbaric tribes would be perfect. Send word to them for an alliance against the imperialistic goals of Egypt. Now who else.”
“There is England and Russia.”
“We must speak with them before Egypt does. Russia and England have no love towards Germany but they are on our borders. Get them to side with us. What of Egypt’s neighbors? India shares the only land border with her... will they join us?”
“Doubtful sire, India was almost destroyed centuries ago by the Romans before Egypt stepped in. Roma was destroyed and India has prospered from her strong ties with Egypt. The best choice we have on that continent will be China. They have always enjoyed peaceful relations but Egypt would not assist them in a war with Greece years ago. The animosity is still present.”
“Send word, the more enemies Egypt has, the better we can destroy them.”

-----

Thebes-
Cleopatra looks over the dispatches lying across her desk. The years of peaceful trade between America and England has been undone by German influence. For years, England and America have provided much loved coffee and Olive Oil to her people in exchange for the gems and silks of Egypt. No longer. Those two nations have now sided with the evil Germans. Relations with Azteca have never been cordial and now they were at war. At least Indian and Russia refused German offers of a military alliance. Now, they have tossed the dice and joined with Egypt against Germany. What hurt most was the treachery of the Chinese.

“What shall we do, your Highness?” asked Cleopatra’s Foreign Minister.
“Send an expedition to England. Land near their coffee fields and secure them. England will feel the might of Egyptian anger.” Responds Cleopatra.
“And what of Azteca and America?”
“We will do nothing. Send the Fleet of Light over to their waters and sink all shipping. They are too far to deal with at the moment.”
“Russia?”
“We must support them. Germany has tried to destroy them before and now they may attempt to get England to help. When Ramses captures the city of Hamburg, the Russians from Tblisi should be able to lay claim to some of Germany’s much needed horse farms. We must make sure Tblisi does not fall.”
“China?”
“I spoke with Ghandi last night at the anniversary dinner of the Roman Victory. He agrees that China is creating a disturbance on our continent and will assist us militarily. He will also talk to Greece who wants to remain neutral. I promised Egyptian forces will help hold any Indian cities that Chinese forces reach. Granted it is a long march through Greece.”
“France?”
“The French government is unable to join us in this crusade against Germany. Despite the contributions we made to their country, they feel that we are not in position to protect them should Germany forces move that way. They will remain neutral.”

-----

Dortmund, Germany

Ramses’ forces fly across the German plains and lay a quick siege against the Hamburg. The Dortmund defenses are strong and Egyptian forces are devastated but the shear number of Egyptian Calvary and Crusaders crushes the defenders and the relatively useless city of Dortmund is now in Egyptian hands. The capture of Hamburg allows the Russian city of Tblisi to annex the German horse farms depriving the Germans of this much needed resource. A small German counterattack swings out from the Frozen Tundra to the north but the well trained Egyptian Army stands pat and the counterattack fails. The once undefeated German Army has faced another humbling defeat. The road to Leipzig is open. Ramses gives the order – “MARCH!”

-----
Greek-Chinese border

General Mao of the Chinese army marches his forces across the Greek border and begins his long march to India. He is met shortly by a small Indian forces and the battle commences. The Greek army watches in horror and Indian troops are slaughtered. Word is sent to the capital and the Chinese are asked to leave Greek territory. China refuses and the Chinese army, so proud of their defeat of the Indian forces is set upon by the Greek army as Greece declares war on China.

Cleopatra reads of the war between Greece and China. “Now we have nothing to worry about with China. There is no way that their armies can fight their way through Greece, through India and then be much of a match for our border cities. Beef up defensive forces in the border cities and secure the Indian-Greek border. All offensive forces can head north to Germany or across the sea to England.

Salzburg, Germany

While growing up Ramses has heard the stories of the Egyptian War Chariots sweeping out of the hills to wage war on Roma and Japan. He visualized the brutality and glory of those swift war machines chopping down the enemy. Now, he is writing the stories as his Knights and Crusaders sweep across the Frozen German Tunda to attack the once peaceful city of Salzburg. German forces have been reinforcing the city since the fall of Dortmund and Ramses knows that the fight will be brutal. Wave after wave of Egyptian men storm the city and are turned back. German Muskets fire their weapons blotting out the rays of the late September sun. The wounded scream as the surgeons chop of severed limbs and cauterize the stumps of once useful arms and legs. And still the killing goes on. For Queen and Country! Egyptian forces continue the assault and finally, and Elephant Regiment, and old and distinguished regiment that can trace their service record back to the Japanese Wars. The tired defenders of the city crumble under the mighty roar of the Elephant Trunks and are crushed under the even mightier tree trunk legs. Leipzig falls. The heart of the German Fur producing region is now in Egyptian hands. Now the task is to keep it.

-----

Athens, Greece

The Greek leader, Alexander XII sits at his desk as a representative from Germany is shown in.
“Honored leader of the Greeks. Germany requests your assistance in our war with India.”
“I told your last ambassador that Greece will never join with Germany against our friend Egypt and that goes for India as well. And India is no threat to you and we can not wage war against – “
Alexander gets no further as the Germany Ambassador pulls out a pistol and shoots him. “Who is in charge now?” he asks.
“I guess that would be me,” says a shocked foreign minister. “I guess we shall now be at war with India as well as China.”

On the road to the Chinese-Greek border an Indian convoy is ambushed by supposedly friendly troops.

-----

Thebes, Egypt

“You highness, it appears that India has suffered another defeat. The revolution in Greece has created an unstable government which has declared war on India.”
“Advise Gandhi that Egyptian forces are en-route to assist in securing his border. Let Greece and China fight each other for the time being. Greece is not strong enough to take on Indian AND China.”
“As you say.”

-----

Off the coast of the Isle of Fruitopia

A squadron of Egyptian Brigs sail around the island and being to make their way towards Fruitopia’s harbor when masts are sighted in the distance. No Egyptian ships are scheduled to be in that direction so the ships tack their sails and head off to investigate. The German galleys are sighted heading towards the leeward side of the island and the Brigs give chase. The German ships are quickly overtaken and sent to the bottom of the seas. The slightly damaged ships make for the safe harbor for repairs and to replenish their supplies before they begin hugging the German coast and protecting the new Egyptian luxuries of Wine and Fur.

-----

Off the Coast of America and Azteca

A number of Egyptian Brigs station themselves off the coasts of these two nations and silently watch for any seagoing traffic. Any threat posed by these two nations now must come through the Egyptian picket lines. Now Egypt can concentrate on Germany and England.

-----

The Coffee Fields of York, England

A scouting force lands near the York coffee fields in hopes of taking that city and bringing the war to England. For the most part, the English have lost out on trade with Egypt since they were mistakenly led into this war on Germany’s side. Now it is time to teach a lesson to the misguided fools in London.

Map of the world.

Please note that the map is not 100 accurate based on the current timeline. Some cities have changed hands that have not yet been reported.

(Also, the red is England)

Corrections on the German cities:
The first city to fall is correct.
Dortmund was the second to fall as Ramses marched onwards to the Fur Rich tundra around Salzburg. (I will try to go back and edit the previous posts)

And now the map:

Salzburg, Germany Territories of Egypt

Ramses sat patiently as he listened to the reports from his scouts and spies. It appears that a German assault towards the Russian enclave of Tblisi was repelled with huge losses on both sides. The Germans may not have taken the city but they did cut the roads to the newly acquired Russian Horse farms thus depriving Russia of the much needed strategic resource. ‘Nothing I can do about that,’ thought Ramses. It also appears that the Germans have moved troops from the Bradensburg area down to Nurenburg to protect the iron mines there. Now is the time to move on to Bradensburg. “Tell the men, we march at dawn.”

*****

Bradensburg, Germany

After a hard march through the newly fallen snow, the Egyptian army arrives outside of Bradensburg. Many officers wonder about the logic behind this attack. Bradensburg has no military value, why waste resources and men marching to this remote Northern German city? Those thoughts quickly leave the minds of the officers; no one dares to question the logic of their General. The Brandensburg Garrison consists of 2 musket regiments, which has no chance against the combined might of Ramses’ Knights and Crusaders. The valiant German defenders put up a gallant fight but as the German flag fell to the ground and the Egyptian raised in its place, thousands of Egyptian families lost their sons. Ramses has now over extended his lines, a mistake that may prove costly.

*****

Lutetia, India

Centuries ago, the old Roman people founded the city on a desert peninsula, jutting out towards the seas. The reason for the founding of this city has long been forgotten; there is nothing around to support a thriving community. Despite this, or because of it, a fierce battle was fought between the Indian Armies and those Romans, fighting for their existence. If one looks closely that the older building in the center of town, one can see the scars from that long ago battle. With war once again on the citizens minds, no thought of attack is present. The Greeks would have to march through all of India to reach them and to the west lies Egypt, trusting ally and friend.

Suddenly, Greek troops rise out of the desert like a fierce dust storm. The defenses of Lutetia are unprepared and India suffers another defeat at the hand of Greece. A backdoor to India is now open.

*****

Thebes, Egypt

“You majesty,” says the Egyptian Minister of War. “The Indian city of Lutetia has fallen to the Greeks.”
“That is terrible. What can we do? We are not at war with Greece so we can not take the city back.”
“Simple, your highness. Send our forces to Lutetia and block the Greeks in. We will simply guard the rear flank of India.”
“That is fair,” responds Cleopatra. “After all, they are taking the frontal assaults from China for us. Let it be done.”

*****

Bradensburg, German Territories of Egypt

The victorious Egyptian armies have little time for celebration and rest as a German counterattack streams out of Nurenburg. An Egyptian relief column is ambushed and annihilated as the Germans flood towards the city. Ramses advanced to Bradensburg too quickly and his defending troops were caught in the open. Ramses himself leads the defenders against the German assault. German Knights and Crusaders met with Egyptians and the loss of lives continues to climb. In the end, the Egyptian flag is still flying as the German forces limb back to Nurenburg. The flag is lowered to half-mast as the body of Ramses is found at the city gates. The Egyptian army in the conquered German territories is leaderless.

*****

Tblisi, Russia

The Russian enclave of Tblisi has always faced the possibility of German attack. It has survived numerous German assaults during the previous wars but never posed much of a threat to Germany, until today. With the fall of Dortmund to the marauding Egyptian forces, the Germans lost one of their prime horse farms to the Russians. The Russian army now has a source of horses in which to outfit their knights. With the Egyptian offensive moving north, Tblisi was primed for attack. While the German army was thrown back from the walls of Bradensburg, they broke through Tblisi’s defensives. The Russian Army is suddenly deprived of their sole source of horses.

York, England

The Egyptian scouting force lay in their tents in the coffee fields outside of York when Colonel Panab was called from his tent. His scouts have captured some English soldiers and brought them in for questioning. Panab listened intensively as the Englishmen spilled the beans regarding the defenses of York. “Well, Colonel,” said the chief of staff.

“Looks like the English don’t know we are here. They are too busy thinking of the Russians to the South.”

“I agree, captain,” responds Paneb. “But is it a trick. The city of York. The home of the English Coffee Industry, protected by an mere Regiment of Spear?”

“The English navy patrols the waters and the Russians are not posing much of a threat. I guess they feel safe.”

“We shall teach them, right Captain. Begin preparations for the attack.”

With those two words came the end of the English-German alliance. Egyptian forces pour out of the coffee fields and the English defenders are routed similar to the Indian rout at Lutetia. The English feel the sting of Egyptian steel. Once the Egyptians build a port at Troy, the Coffee will flow back to Egypt.

*****

Thebes, Egypt

“Show the English Ambassador in.”

“Your highness. Queen Elizabeth asks for your forgiveness in this war. As you know, England has always been under the heel of Germany and they were prepared to invade if we did not stand with them.”

“You could have sided with us, Mr. Ambassador. Egypt protects and defends her friends.”

“I beg your pardon, your highness. But we did not believe that you could come to our assistance in time to save England from the Huns. Had we known of your army in Fruitopia, we would have never sided with the barbaric Germans.”

“Egypt accepts your offer of peace. Let it be known to your queen that our trade embargo against England will remain in force until England ends her war with our Russian allies. Also remind your Queen that Egypt is supplying Russia with the Horse and Saltpeter she needs to fight Germany. Those resources could easily be used against your horseless nation.”

*****

Greek held Lutetia, India

The Egyptian army arrived at the outskirts of the city and prevented a Greek breakout into the soft underbelly of India. The Indian Army, rearmed after their setbacks against Greece and China march unopposed towards the city. The Greek troops can only look out in fear at the mass of Indian and Egyptian forces in the desert. Should world come from Thebes, the Egyptians would waste no time in storming the defenses. Word does not come. The Egyptian army, in full view of the Greek defenders prepare themselves for an assault. As the Greeks begin to panic over the thought of fighting these proven warriors, Indian spies inside the city open the gates for the Indian army, which has crept unnoticed to the city. The Indians, both in and outside of the city butcher the invading Greeks. With nowhere to run, the Greeks are killed to the man. The back door to India is closed.

*****

Thebes, Egypt

“Your Highness, the Chinese Ambassador is here to see you.”

“Send the scoundrel in.”

“You Majesty. China has wronged your in the past and we wish to make amends. We cannot survive on this land while at war with the might of Greece, India and Egypt against us. We offer you gold in exchange for peace.”

“Granted. But remember this, Mr. Ambassador. Egypt will not permit India to fall so we suggest you make peace there as well.”

“You suggestion is noted and will be relayed back to Beijing.”

The Isle of Fruitopia, Egypt

Colonel Thrawn sets off his Galley in the harbor of Fruitpoia. He arrives with 5 galleys of fresh troops to aid in General Ramses’ march into Germany. He walks towards the newly constructed Winter Palace and asks met with General Khufu.

“The General is on the mainland, Colonel. He is now in charge of the Army.”
“What has happened to General Ramses?”
“He has fallen at the 2nd battle of Bradensburg. Khufu has taken command. He knew you were arriving soon and left you this,” the officer replies handing an envelope to Thrawn.
The Colonel opens the letter and sees a map of the coast with Tblisi circled. His orders are written at the side of the map. “Take Tblisi”

***********

(I have a strage feeling that their be oil in the desert near Lutetia. A city in that location is bad idea as there is no food resource near by. I have also modded the rules so that you can not mine or irrigate dessert terrain. That lowers the growth rate of desert cities. If I remember, I will grab a screen shot of that city location.)

yeah, I'm in the story. :D And there most likely is a resource in the desert, the ai often founds cities in strange places because of a resource there you can't see yet.

Brandenburg, German Territories of Egypt

Gerneral Khufu arrives in the city accompanied by much needed reinforcements. A concentrated German offensive would have little opposition had these troops not arrived in time. After seeing to the security of the city, Khufu orders a fatigued but experienced army westward towards the Iron mines at Nurenburg.

*****

Isle of Fruitopia, Egypt

Following the orders of his new General, Colonel Thrawn re-boardes his ships and sets sail for the German coast and the captured city of Tblisi. He lands in the forests off to the west of the city and is met by Knights Regiments out of Khufu’s Victory and Dortmund. A German slave camp was busted up and 200 Russian Slaves were set free and rushed back to the safety of captured cities.

Thebes, Egypt

“Ambassador Clinton of America is here to see you, Your Highness.”

“Show that Barbarian in. But stay close, you never know with these Americans.”

“Your Royal Highness,” begins Ambassador Clinton. “This feeble war between our great nations has gone long enough. There is no reason for it since neither of our nations have conflicting goals.”

“That is correct,” responds Cleopatra. “But you people declared war upon us.”

“That is a mistake we regret. What can we do to make amends?”

“Simple. Declare war on the Aztecs. Reclaim your cities lost in previous wars while they are trying to break the Egyptian blockade.”

“It is done. America welcomes the opportunity to mend fences with Mighty Egypt.” With that Ambassador Clinton leaves to send a message back to Washington.

“What a pompous ass, that man is.” Cleopatra says to no one in particular.

Nurenburg, Germany.

General Khufu looks down from the mountains that shield the city and determines his plans of assault. He originally wanted to take the Iron Mines in case his assault on the city fails, but upon arriving on the scene, the Egyptians find German Musket Regiments guarding the Mines. Rather than taking casualties attacking the fortified troops on the hillside, Khufu orders his men into the German city. The men know that a quick victory will men rest and warmth as the march the frozen tundra has crept into their fighting spirit. Khufu promises rewards in the city and tells them of Thrawns advance on Tblisi. “Once these cities fall, more troops can be dispatched from Salzburg and Dortmund.” Moral is raised as the sword falls sending Thousands of Egyptian troops into the waiting guns of the German Army. As Nurenburg falls under the Egyptian hoards, the Germans guarding the mines flee towards Tblisi. It is either make for the safety there or to be trapped in the mines. Germany is thus deprived of a much needed resource.

*****

German Occupied City of Tblisi.

The conquering Germans treat the Russian citizens of Tblisi with contempt as Hundreds of Russian Workers are sent to slave labor camps to keep the German War effort moving. Colonel Thrawn listens to the stories of the freed works while in his camp and anger boils up. How can a nation treat conquered people like this, he wonders to himself. Of course he overlooks the fact that Thousands of people of Roman and Japanese decent in his own country are treated like second class citizens. But then again those people were evil warmongers, while the Russians are just trying to exist. Totally different.

With the stories to help fuel the anger of his troops, they move to liberate the Russian city. The German Army is ready and waiting as Egyptian Crusaders flow out of the woods. Regiment after regiment limp back to the shelter of the trees while the Knights begin their assault. As the Egyptians continue to pound the German defenders, Russian citizens inside the walls slowly knock of a solider here and another one there until thee Egyptians hit the ‘weak-spot’ and breakthrough. After that, it is all over and the Russian flag is re-raised in the town hall, right beside the Egyptian one. Many Russian workers choose to flee the war-torn city rather than take the risk falling under German occupation. The Horse Farms once again fall out of German hands.

As Thrawn begins to read the butcher bill, a scout comes rushing in. “Sir, a huge German Army is approaching from the west. I count at least 10 regiments of Crusaders and 10 more of Knights.”

“Let us hope those numbers are exaggerations but prepare the defenses.”

Thrawn prepares Tblisi for another attack as the German Horde slowly marches toward him.

Berlin, German

"How dare they," scream Chancellor Bismark. "We had a deal. The English will pay for their tretchery. War it shall be."

*****

Hastings, England and Oxford, England

The two prongs of the German Southern Amry moves south quickly and strikes the two border towns. The English defenders are overwhelmed as an attack across this border was not expected. Most English troops are further to the south fighting the Russians and the German offensive was brutally quick. The Huns march on.

*****

London, England

Queen Elizabeth looks out at the growing clouds to the north. "Looks like a storm is brewing," she says to her couriers.

"No your highness. That is the German Army's dust trail. We must get you out of the city. London can not stand against the Germans."

"No. I will stay. Cleopatra prommissed aid and the Egyptian garrison at Troy will soon move to our aid."

As the German Army grows closer to London, they is still no news from York. The Egyptian forces, secure behind their city walls sit calmly as teh German move closer to the English Capital.

"You Highness. No word yet from York. We must get you out to Nottingham or Canterbury. London will fall."

"You are right. Let us withdraw. It appears we were right after all. Egypt can not assist us against the Germans."

As the London Government prepares to flee its capital, the German army attacks. The brave defenders of London stuggle desperatly to protect their Queen and City, but in the end fail in both endevours. Queen Elizabeth is captured just outside the city as she attempts to reach Nottingham. England is in turmoil as Richard the III takes the reigns of power.

*****

Newcastle, England

The second prong of the German Assault into England spends little time resting after the fall of Oxford. It continues marching, this time towards Newcastle. Word of the fall of London reaches the citizens of Newcastle right as the German Army appears on the horizon. If London fell, what chance to we have, wonders the citizenry. The English flag is lowered from the town center and the gates are opened for the Germans as the town surrenders. The German army, stinging from the defeats in the north, takes offense to this and attack none-the-less. The savage butchers of Germany leave the town standing, but few witnesses to their atrocity. German soilders pillage and rape the town before linking up with the First Prong and marching onwards to Nottingham.

*****

Canterbury, England

The First Prong, still jubilant for the caputre of the English Queen march toward Nottingham, and the new English Government. But first, the City of Canterbury lies in their path. Much like the other English cities, Canterbury's defenders are no match for the more experienced and better equiped German Troops. Canterbury stands defiantly in the way of the German march but is swated aside like a bug as the German Army continues to roll south.

*****

Nottingham, England

Richard, fearing capture, flees Nottingham towards the temporary safety of Coventry. The Germans surely will not move towards Coventry and open themselves up to a counterattack by the Egyptians in York. That would be suicide. The coward flees his city leaving the townsfolk, armed with pitchforks and spears to defend their homes against the guns and swords of the Superior German army.

It is no contest. Like the English cities before them, Nottingham falls to the maurading Germans. The two prongs of the German Army link up but where will they go. To the easy victory at Coventry or to the waiting Egyptians in York? The Southern German Army, experiencing victory after victory, holds no respect for their Egyptian adversaries who have been taking German cities in the North as easily as Germany has been taking English cities in the South.

*****

Conventry, England

King Richard sits and awaits the Geman military decision. Will they move towards his garrison and Coventry or towards the Egyptians at York. The sounds of trumpets announces the decisions. The Germans are marching on Coventry and once again, Richard the Coward flees. The English King boards one of his few remaining ships and sets sail to Dover. There is no way that those Germans will be ablet o attack me there. (Dover is situated on an island to the south of Russia, also on the island is a Greek city)

As Richard flees Coventry, German Crusaders attack. Much like the other cities, Coventry's defenders are outmatched in every area and Coventry soon falls into German hands.

*****

London, Occupied England

General Paneb finally recieved his orders to march and began to move towards London. The mass of ther German army has moved onwards towards Coventry thus opening the door to London.

Paneb moves his regiments of Knights towards the city walls when suddenly he is outflanked by German Crusaders. Paneb survives the vicious German counterattack but four of his prized Regiments are no long up to fighting strength. Paneb ignores his aides suggestion of a retreat to regroup and press his attack on London. His attacks fail and Paneb must march his tired and defeated army back to York and hope that reinforcements arrive in order to stem the coming German assault.

*****

Konigsberg, Germany

Like many of Germany's northern city, Konigsberg is vital to the German war effort. The only deposit of saltpeter is located in the hills around the city. With this knowledge, General Khufu and Colonel Thrawn begin a pincher movement to take the city and thus deprive Germany of a much needed resource. Taking of this city earlier, may have saved the English Empire.

Khufu marches in from the north while Thrawn's forces move from the south. The German are caught in a tight place. Khufu is more expreience with more experienced men, but Thrawn's forces have recently been reinforced by the new mounted Dragoon Regiments from Egypt. The German Garrison decides to stay pat and fight a defensive stand. After all, the German Armies have been winning again, all is right in the world. Oh, and don't forget about the massive German Garrison in the city itself.

The Egyptian Armies attack and the surgerons are busy as many men, on both sides, are mained and killed. The Egyptians press their attacks through out the day and as the sun begins to set, the inhabitants of Konigsberg feel that tomorrow will bring reinforcements from Berlin and that the Egyptians will be thrown back. Before the sun sets, Thrawn and Khufu mount their horses and led a final charge at the city. This time, the attack is a success as a breach is made in the German defenses and Egyptian troops pour through. The hand to hand fighting continues well into the night, but once the Egyptians got intot the city, it was over. By morning, the German flag is burning in the center of town as the Egyptian round up the prisoners and sent the to the prison ships in Fuitopia's harbor. The Germans must now find their saltpeter elsewhere.

*****

Leipzig, Germany

German troops flee from the city of Konigsberg with Gernal Khufu right behind. Thrawn was given the task of restoring order in the new German city while Khufu takes the new Dragoon Regiments and heads west towards Leipzig. The fleeing Germans arrive at the city and move through the city gates right before Khufu's troops arrive. Khufu wastes no time in preparing an assault and just lets his men go. After chasing the Germans for most of the day, none of the experienced Egyptians could stomach the fact that their prey was out of reach. With that, the Egyptians assault Keipzig in a manner never witnessed by the Veteran German comanders. The first few Egyptian Regiments were decimated but that did not detour the remaining men who tore through Leipzig like whale through a fishing net. The Germans Troops were shown no quarter while teh civilians were left untouched, unless of course they attacked an Egyptian. When the fight was driven out of the Germans, three more German wineries were in the hands of Egypt, along with the entire Eastern Province of Germany.

Kolhapur, India

The city of Kolhapur is located in what most geologists call ‘the triangle’. This region of the continent is a three-nation boarder between India, Greece and China. Peace has reigned over the area for centuries but military strategists have speculated that should war breakout between any two of these nations, this area would be the battlefield. The worst-case scenario has been achieved. War has arrived, but all three nations against all the nations.

The military might of China marches towards the Indian city. Indian forces have been pulled back to the border to re-take the city of Lutetia to stop Greek advance in their rear. The Chinese Generals are no fools; they have studied war for centuries, although not practicing it. With Greece and India looking in one place, they attack someplace else. Chinese forces flood across the border wiping out Indian pickets and the city falls quicker than expected.

New Delhi, India

The city is in celebration over the liberation of Lutetia. The Indian army has finally won a significant battle and with Egyptian forces moving towards the front lines, it is time to take the war into Greece and China. The celebration is short lived as rumors of the defeat at Kolhapur begin to spread among the population.

Leipzig, German Territories of Egypt

With the fall of Leipzig, two new German cities are vulnerable to attacks by the Egyptian forces. General Thrawn can easily march south towards Berlin, the capital of the German nation, or General Khufu can march north towards Bremen. German spies watch closely to determine where the Egyptian army will march next. The spies notice unusual activity at General Thrawns headquarter and word is sent to Berlin. The march south begins soon.

General Thrawn, unable to sleep over the recent decision of the high command. He calls his top aids together to plan out a rigorous training schedule. He must keep his men in top fighting order as they await their orders to attack. ‘Why must we wait,’ he thinks to himself. ‘What military significance does Bremen have over Berlin?’

*****

Berlin, Germany

Chancellor Bismarck reads the reports from his spies in Leipzig for the 3rd time. “So, Thrawn is marching here for battle. Order some reinforcements from the Russian theatre. The Egyptians will be dying by the thousands as they try to take Berlin.”

Leipzig, German Territories of Egypt

Under the cover of a moonless night, General Khufu and his army groups march north towards the unsuspecting city of Bremen.

*****

Bremen, Germany

The German townspeople have feared an Egyptian attack for months. When Konigsberg fell, their fine city was suddenly a border town. When Leipzig fell, they were a peninsula; a lone German possession, jutting out into a sea of Egyptians. An attack will come, of that there is no question. The question among the townsfolk and defenders is where, and when.

Colonel Dietz, commander of the 5th German Muskets has been given the task of stopping the Egyptian forces. Dietz was folding the iron mines at Nuremberg and watched as the Egyptians stormed into the city. He fought off the attacks at Konigsberg as the Egyptian wave continued to move eastward. Somehow he managed to escape that defeat and vows that if he does not win here, he will not retreat again.

The question before Dietz is not when the Egyptians will come, but from where. The Egyptian invasion forces are concentrated in two locations; Konigsberg and Leipzig with the two commanders both in Leipzig. It is clear now, the attack will come from Leipzig. He informs his men that and the city awaits attack.

The German Military has suffered blunder after blunder in Western Germany since the invasion began and the Egyptians were confident. They march unknowingly into a German ambush and fighting was fierce. German muskets and Crusaders pounded on the flanks of the march Egyptian forces. Khufu pushed his men through and eventually reached the outskirts of the city. As he prepares for his siege he is informed of more troops arriving from the west, the Egyptians forces from Konigsberg arrive on the scene, unmolested and unnoticed.

As the sun begins to rise on a new day, Egyptians forces begin their assault. The wait is over for the Germans and the city of Bremen as the lush farmlands become bitter killing fields. Egyptians dragoons meet German Crusaders as men begin to die. By noon, the Egyptians have reached the city walls. By 3, they are in the city. As the sun sets, the fighting intensifies. German townsfolk aid in the defense of the city, as the Egyptians have to take the city, building by building. A new day begins and the fighting continues. Most of the city is in Egyptian hands and the fighting is fiercest in the barracks of the 5th German Muskets. 3 Egyptian Regiments are assaulting the building, and have been for the past few hours but can not enter the building. Suddenly a fire erupts in the complex and German gunfire slows. As the Egyptians attack once again, the breach is made and the German defense crumples. The Egyptians attempt to gain access to the second floor of the building but are once again stopped. Suddenly, there is no more gunfire. An Egyptian officer slowly and cautiously rounds the corner and sees a lone German Officer standing defiantly in front of him, empty musket at his feet and sword in hand. He asks the German Officer to surrender. Colonel Dietz looks him in the eye “never” and begins to charge with his sword. Dietz’s second foot never hits the floor as Egyptian muskets open fire and Dietz’s body is flung back into the room of smoldering German papers. Bremen has fallen.

Dover, England.

The English empire is now nothing. The once proud empire is not even a shell of its once glorious self. Since the Great War began, England has found herself fighting against both superpowers. First against Egypt where they lost their coffee fields and then against Germany, were they lost the queen and mainland cities. Now English power is left to rule over a single city on a near barren island. If this was not bad enough, the English must also share the island with the Greek city of Miletos. Quickly, relations are stabilized with Greece. No need to lose their last holdings.

King Richard walks towards the Cliffs of Dover and looks out across the waters to the mainland and his former lands. He knows in his heart that English lords will never again rule over those lands. Dover is not rich enough to build an army to defeat Germany. And he also knows that he is not the man to lead his troops to victory. All he has done since his mother was captured and executed in London has been retreat. As he continues to daydream about what has been lost, he hears his guards and escorts come up behind him. He turns around to see strange men in Russian uniforms pointing their weapons at him. England’s last city is now in the hands of Russia. England has gone the war of Japan and Rome. A major world nation, in History Books only.

Berlin, Germany

Chancellor Bismark watches the execution with a pained expression. “That should teach those idiots to give me useful information,” he says to the couriers around him. The curriers look back towards the field where the former Intelligence chief’s body hangs from the scaffolding. “If it was not for that idiot, Bremen would still be in German hands.”

- Later that day,

“Are you sure you can do it,” Bismark asks the General before him.

“Yes sir, with the forces that we have currently in Berlin and the surrounding countryside, I can easily take the city of Leipzig, push the Egyptians back towards Nuremberg and still protect Berlin from Egyptian counterattacks,” replies General Sheriden with confidence in his voice. After all, Sheriden was the General in charge of the German forces that pushed England off the mainland. A new General to face the military minds of Khufu and Thrawn. “Also, with the supply of Horses and Iron coming in from overseas trade, are army can be back up to full strength in no time.”

“Start your offensive at once.”

Bismark looks over to Admiral Corning, the man in charge of the German Navy. “What is the status of the Egyptians shipping lanes?”

“Are navy has succeeded in stemming the flow of war materials from Egypt. The number of Egyptains ships sunk is not as great as we first envisioned. Egyptian ships are faster than ours and run at the first sighting. We have caught a few and once Egyptian Brigs and Corvettes arrive from stations near Azteca and America, they may attempt to run our pickets.”

“Where are these ships being diverted to.”

“York. Our naval presence there is hampered by the Russian Navy, feeble as it is.”

“Do you think that these forces could impede our plans on destroying Russia once and for all.”

“That is a possibility. In which case I would suggest that we step up our timetable regarding Russia’s elimination before Egypt can step in.”

“Agreed,” Bismark turns to General Sheriden. “Tell your replacement to step up the attacks. Russia should fall soon.

- The evening.

General Sheriden and his army leave the safety of the confines of Berlin and begin the arduous march North to liberate their brothers being held in bondage in Leipzig. German Crusaders flock to Sheriden’s banner, Muskets are primed and loaded. Even aging swordsmen come out of their hovels to assist in expelling the vile Egyptians from the sacred German soil.

“When we arrive, the Germans in Leipzig will rise up and help throw out the barbaric Egyptians!”

Leipzig, German Territories of Egypt

The first few months after the fall the city were hard times for both the citizens and Egyptians. Rioting in the street. Looting of the stores and vocal protests over the Egyptians occupations. Over time, most German citizens realized that life under Egyptian rule was the same as under German rule. In fact, General Thrawn, Acting Governor, was benevolent. The Library and Churches were re-built. The Marketplace and Bazaars were flowing with goods from Egypt, some of which the German population has never before been able to buy. In short, life went on, sometimes better than before.

“GENERAL! GENERAL! THE GERMANS ARE COMING!” screams the scout from the forward positions.

“Calm down soldier. What is it?” asks Thrawn.

Out of breath, the scout relays what he has seen. A huge German Army is march north to take back the city. “Sir, I swear on the gods that the German Army is larger than what we have here.”

“Quick soldier. Ride to Bremen and ask that reinforcements be sent.”

The scout runs off on his errand hoping that his message and reinforcements will arrive before the German attack begins.

General Thrawn walks up the highest point on the walls and looks through his telescope. The Germans will arrive shortly and within a few days, begin to attack. The scout will not make it back in time. What must be done to slow the Germans down. His Dragoon Regiments can easily overmatch the German Crusaders on the open field, but what if the Crusaders attack his men in the city? An idea springs to mind and he calls for his best Regiment Commanders to meet him in his quarters.

After the short meeting, the Regimental Commanders run to their commands and begin preparations. Once the German arrive arrives at the outskirts of the city, the Egyptians attack. The Germans are busy setting up camp and making preparations for the siege and are caught unaware of the bizarre Egyptian tactic. A bit of luck rides with the 3rd Regiment as they strike through the German Army’s command post. Gernal Corning is shot dead coming out of his tent to the sounds of the attack. The Egyptian attack is a complete success. The fight has left the Germans and many begin to flee back to Berlin. Thrawn sees an opening that he never thought he would see. The way to Berlin may be open. The Remaining Egyptian Regiments are given orders to chance the retreating Germans “To the Gates of Berlin itself.” And the Leipzig is left to be defended by 2 Regiments of Muskets and the exhausted men of the first attack.

The scout returns to Leipzig at the head of a large column of Egyptian Dragoons, expecting to retake the city. When they arrive the see the Egyptian flag flying over the city and no sign of the German Army. The Captain of the lead Dragoon looks in disgust at the scout. “Where is this mighty German Army you promised us?” He finds his answer when they march around the city and discover the remains of the partially erected German camps.

Berlin, German

The remnants of Corning’s mighty army slowly filter back towards the city with Thrawn and his Dragoons in hot pursuit. Word runs through the German Army and Crusader Regiments and Muskets rush to the defense. Crusaders and Dragoons clash in the fields and the Egyptian casualties start to rise, as does the German. Mile by bloody mile, the Egyptian forces push forward their attack and bloody mile by bloody mile, the Germans fall back. The Egyptian advance slowly starts to lose its steam and Thrawn orders a final thrust which falls short of the city. As the Egyptian forces pull back a cheer goes up over the city as they believe that they have stopped the Enemy. Suddenly a cheer erupts in the rear flanks of the Egyptian forces. The relief column from Bemen has arrived. Fresh men, as fresh as could be from a hard days march, and with a renewed energy, the Egyptians charge again. And again. And again. Finally, the walls to Berlin crumble. Egyptians flood into the city with General Thrawn at the head. Thrawn comes across a wounded German Colonel. “Show me to Bismark,” he demands of the German. He is shown to the offices of the Chancellery but Bismark and his Ministers are nowhere to be found. It is later learned that Bismark left for Bonn on an inspection tour shortly after Corning marched north.

The German capital has fallen to the might of Egypt. Along with the historic ruins of the mysterious Stonehedge.

Greco-Indian-Chinese Border

The Indian Army, victorious at the most recent battle of Lutetia is ordered quickly to the front lines. Egyptian warships are now hugging the coast to protect against another enemy landing. As the Indians approach the lines, reinforcements are added as each city contributes more men to the glorious effort. As the army approaches the lines, Ghandi orders two attacks, one to liberate Kolhapur from the Chinese and one to seize the Greek city of Marathon.

******

Kolhapur, India (occupied by Chinese)

As the Indians march towards the city, the dread in their hearts grows for on the horizon is billowing clouds of smoke. It appears that the city is in flames. As the men crest the hill and finally see the city, their fears are realized. The city is burning but not because of malicious Chinese Troops. Instead, the city is under attack by Greek forces. No time is wasted as the Indians charge into the melee for the city. The Greek forces, battered and beaten by the Chinese must now fight through the attacking Indians to retreat. The Greeks are slaughtered by the thousands. Unable to comprehend the actions outside the city, the Chinese defenders cheer the outcome on the fields. The cheers turns to shouts of alarm as they discover that the victors on the field are in fact Indian troops, not Chinese. The Indians flood into the city, as the Chinese are unable to mount an effective defense. In the end, the city is liberated and the Indian flag flies once more from the ramparts.

*****

Marathon, Greece

The second prong of the Indian attack is the first serious invasion into Greece. In the past, a few sorties were sent out to pillage and attack lone units, but never a sustained thrust. With a rear guard protected by Egyptian troops, the Indians march unmolested and undiscovered towards Marathon. The Greek commander, upon sighting the approaching Indians, sends an urgent message to his forces besieging Kolhapur. After all, a Greek city is more important than that war-torn Indian one. The message never arrives as the Indians attack. The fighting is brutal but the brunt of the killing is taken by the Greek defenders, as their most experience men are dying at the gates of Kolhapur. Wave after wave of Indian forces throw themselves at the city until the defenses are breached. Indians race into the city and celebrate. The first foreign city captured by Indian forces since the Roman Wars.

Dover, Russia

As the Greeks are busy suffering defeats at Kolhapur and Marathon, a small German expedition lands on the island that the city of Dover, final resting place for the English Empire, shares with the Greek city of Miletos. Germany and Greece are not at war so the Germans landing is unopposed and the quickly set out to Dover. Their goal, rescue the last English King, Richard. It is believed that if Richard is installed as a puppet king of England, the city of York will rise up against the Egyptians and the Egyptian stronghold in the south of Germania will no longer be a threat. Of course, the English only see Richard as a coward who hid in his island fortress while his empire was whittled away.

The Russian Army is trying desperately to hold back German offensives and play little attention to the island and city. In the end, the small band of German Crusaders take the city and sprint Richard back to Bonn for a meeting with Bismark.

OCC:

At the moment, due to a scratch in my CIV disk, I can not continue the game at the moment. :( But since I have played more than reported, the story can continue while I await a new disk. :D I have about 2.5 pages of notes including Egypt's 2nd attempt to liberate London and the first major battle between Egyptian and Greek Forces (ranked 1 and 3 respectively)

Normally, this late in the game, I would have already had Tanks and such but with all the techs to be researched in the DYP mod, have not get there. Rumors have it that Calvary units will be on the scene soon.

Next Installment: Battle for London, part duex.

York, Egypt

General Paneb sits in his office looking through his troop displacements. With more recruits arriving in the next few days, Paneb can launch his second attempt at liberating London from the barbaric Huns. A knock on the door disturbs the General’s thoughts. “Enter”

“Sir,” says one of Paneb’s most trusted senior officers. “A Large German Army was spotted marching sough towards Smolensk. I believe that it is time we move towards London and cut off the Germans from the Russians.”

“I agree. Give the orders.”

* Later that day

The Southern Egyptians Army marches out of York and into the depths of the jungle. The road to London is well laid out and surprisingly well maintained due the constant warfare. As the Egyptains come to the crossroads (one road goes north to London and the other South to Smolensk) a small German force is met. The Egyptian scouts dispatch the Germans in short time and it is hoped that word has not reached London of the Egyptians march.

As Paneb marches his men north, General Himelich of the 2nd German Army Corp is marching south. The Egyptian scouts sight the German advance and word of the Germans quickly reaches Paneb’s ears. An ambush is set up and is waiting to be sprung on the unsuspecting German Army Corp.

General Himelich, riding upon his horse at the head of the 1st Elite Crusader Regiment of the 2nd German Army, as the thoughts of glory swim in his head. With the German defeats in the North, the Russian Iron mines must fall to Germany. The German military cannot continue to rely of outside sources of iron, what with the Egyptian mastery of the oceans. As the Germans pass from the lush London fields into the darkness of the Jungle, a single shot is heard and General Himelich falls dead, his thoughts of glory gone. The shot singles the beginning of the ambush and the 2nd German Army is decimated along the jungle road. The victory is short lived for the Egyptians as the casualty were unexpectedly high.

The sounds of fighting reached the ears of the Germans in London and two regiments were dispatched to investigate. As the German Regiments approach, Paneb sends two of his veteran Dragoon Regiments to counter and begins to move his army out of the Jungle and closer to London. The Egyptian Dragoons defeat the feeble German reconnaissance and the siege of London commences.

*****

Bonn, Germany
The German Government is busy setting up a new capital as word reaches Bismark of the latest Egyptian thrust.

“Your Excellency, what are your orders?” ask the German Advisors.

“London means nothing to us. With Richard en-route and London in Egyptian hands, we can continue with our plans to establish a puppet England.”

“You mean for us to lose London?”

“London is worthless. It has been fought over and burned almost to the ground. But it is symbolic to the English. What we must do is too keep the Egyptians busy. NO RETREAT!”

“Yes Sir. The orders are being written. What about our forces in Russia? Should we send them to reinforce London?”

“No. Continue the attacks against Russia. We need those Iron Mines near Minsk. Egypt cannot know how many Regiments and Division we have in those jungles. Even my own ministers can not give me the correct numbers.”

*****

London, Germany

The Egyptian Cannon continue their unrelenting barrage on the city while German forces move to outflank Paneb. The 3rd German Army Corp, consisting of 3 full strength Crusader Regiments attacks from the west. Egyptian casualties mount as the cannon are redeployed to counter the German trusts. Egyptian Muskets knock Germans off their horse one at a time as the Crusaders break into the Egyptian lines before retreating under the counterattacks of Regiment of Dragoons. As the 3rd German Army limps back into the woods, the eastern flank is attack by the old 1st German Army. Three Regiments of German Longswordsmen charge at the Egyptian positions and are mowed down by the advanced Egyptian weaponry. At every opening, Paneb launches and attack at the city itself. Once the city falls, the Egyptians can take refuge from the strong German counterattacks.

(German Troops march into Smolensk)

One the third day of the siege, General Paneb notices quick moving Regiments attempting to relieve London.

“It appears that the German Military appears to be fielding Dragoons, what do you say, Colonel?” Paneb asks his Chief of Staff, Colonel Nefer.

“I think we should get inside those walls before more Regiments arrive.”
Throught the day, more Egyptain Regiments arrive from York and are quickly sent to reinforce the lines and to attack the city. Late in the afternoon, the horn sounds signaling another German attack. This time, instead of the usual Crusaders, the new German Dragoons attack into the camps. The well placed cannon and Musket lines throw back the attack. Nefer turns to Paneb for orders and finds his General on the ground holding a bloody arm. General Paneb is rushed to the surgeon’s tents were his life is saved, but his arm is lost.

As Paneb recovers from his wombs, the assaults against London continue and the German excursions into Russia continue

*****

Miletos, Greece

Two Galleons of Dragoons and Muskets land on the beaches of Miletos. Resistance is light as the Egyptian forces take the quite resort city. Egyptain Corvettes guard against another invasion as the Dragoons head off across the island for Dover. Once the island is secure, Germany will be unable to support its Southern Offensives against Russia by sea.

(German Troops Enter Minsk)

*****

London, Germany

A week into the siege of London, and the Egyptian Army is running low on supplies. A constant supply train is flowing from Troy but soon Paneb will be forced to return to York, defeated again. Again, he orders his Regiments into action and once again, they are thrown back. Suddenly, there is a large explosion inside the city. The cannon crews cheer as one of their number has just hit a store of German shells. As the chaos in London increases, 3 more Dragoon Regiments are sent into the fires of hell. As Paneb and Nefer watch from the hillside, the German flag flutters towards the ground. As the flag falls out of sight, the Egyptian lines erupt in cheers before charging towards the city. Resistance is surprisingly light. Despite the orders from Bonn, the remaining German defenders and civilians flee into the countryside.

*****

Dover, Germany

The Egyptians from Miletos rush across the island and attack Dover before word reaches that they have arrived. Dover, whose defenses have already been battered by the Russians and Germans, is in no match for the Egyptians and the city falls once again. The Egyptians can now project a naval presence around the entire southern portions of the Germanic Continent, thus stopping German reinforcements to the Russian Theatre of Operations.

*****

London, Egypt

Order is slowly being restored in London the wounded treated and sent home with discharges. The new recruits drilling and Nefer is dealing with the growing number of English lads willing to join the Egyptain Army. A ragged regiment of Russian Dragoons approaches the city and Nefer leads the delegation to the quarters of Paneb.

“General Stalin of her Majesty’s Royal Dragoons, at your service General,” says the leader of the Russian group.
“Welcome, General. Since you are here I guess that the Germans have been driven out of Russia.”

“Wrong,” says a women’s voice as Tsarina Catherine steps out from behind her bodyguards. “I seek asylum. Moscow has fallen to Germany.”

wow moskow fell? that russian general sounds promising  i love this story i come everyday to read it, ^_^
