In trying to play WOTM 22 I got the following error when attempting to load the file:

"The save file you have selected in protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed."

I have found several other posts about this error, but none of them apply to me. I'm using Windows XP with NTFS. I've patched the game correctly, and installed the correct HOF mod. I uninstalled Warlords, deleted all files, and removed all references to Warlords from my registry.

I just finished GOTM and BOTM, so I've done this correctly on other plays.

Other posts say to post in the HOF forums, but those threads have been closed. Apologies if this should not be here.

Anyone else having this problem with this particular file?

It's fine to post here. Players have problems every now and then, and even though the answer to your problem is most certainly available somewhere else, it may be hard to find.

When you deleted all files, did you also delete the files under My Documents/My Games/Warlords? (or similar path) It's not enough to remove the files in the directory where you installed the game, since you can add mods under the above mentioned path.

Have you installed Blue Marble? If so, please make sure that the CivScale mod is not used.

Yes, I did.

I have not. The HOF mod is the only thing I have installed.

The only piece of information I would add is my HOF installation (and GOTM sequence) went Civ 4, BOTS, then Warlords.

When you install BtS, it changes the Civ4 and Warlords CivGameCoredll.dll file. By installing Warlords after BtS, you may have changed this file back again.

From the Game Download Page said:
Windows Players: If you have NOT installed Beyond the Sword version 3.13 or 3.17 then you either need to do so, or you need to replace the CvGameCoreDLL.dll files in your Civ4 and Warlords \Assets\ folders to emulate this installation. Download the replacement files here.

You can find the replacement file by clicking HERE. Or, you can reinstall BtS.

I also just installed the HoF Mod for Warlords, and I had the same error message.

When I ran the Assets Checker, the CvGameCoreDLL.dll was missing from the Mod. Strange. But I just ran the Mod installer again and it fixed the problem.

I don't follow exactly what your problem is, but I think there's a good chance the Assets Checker would tell you: Civ4 Assets Checker

Many thanks for the response.

I attempted to unzip to the provided locations, but it did not work.

I also noticed that there was no CvGameCoreDLL.dll to replace in the Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets folder. I tried moving the file into Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets\Civ4\Warlords\Assets where one did exist, but that didn't work either.

I'm going to uninstall everything, and try to re-install in order.

I may have this wrong, as its been a while since I have had to deal with this, but the CvGameCoreDLL might be in Civ 4 as a common shared asset? Which is how a BOTM patch, which patches that, also changes the other versions?

Now I am really confused.

First, I tried to re-install BOS. I uninstalled BOS, deleted all associated files, reinstalled BOS, patched and attempted to launch: same error.

Next, I uninstalled ALL versions of Civ 4. I explicitly deleted all directores associated with Civ 4, including all files under "My Games." I then ran a registry cleaner to remove any associated items. I reinstalled Civ 4, patched it, reinstalled Warlords, patched it, then installed HOF-2.13.003. I still get the same error.

I guess I'll try to install BOS, patch it, install HOF 3.x and see what happens.

EDIT: The WOTM notes say "as modified by BtS version 3.13," but I'm assuming 3.17 is satisfactory.

Installing and patching BOS to 3.17 worked. I did NOT install HOF 3.x.

Thanks to everyone who helped me work through it.

Can you open a random game in the mod, under the play now in the menu? If so, then sometimes the download of the save file is corrupted, and a re-download of the save has been the fix for some.

If the mod won't open, then a redownload of the mod, to be sure that is not corrupted might be worthwhile.
