For those of you who played Return to Roots NES created by Toasty or were interested in it i have a few questions.

First off, i am going to start a new Return to Roots NES and am wondering how could it be improved from the way Toasty did it?

Secondly, What type of setting should it use?

Finally, if a new return to roots NES was created would anyone play it?

Stay and top of it. It mostly failed because of my laziness.

And I for one would play :).

good to hear one voice of support. Any ideas on the setting of the NES?

I would play, and the only thing you would need to improve is to update the map and timeline daily ;). Use modern settings, it is the best.

Hmm, I say we need to set some kind of guideline for building and armies, like we always used to do.

Ie; large army=500,000 men, medium army=400,000 men etc

And have a decent build system, perhaps like this list of what you can build in one day(can only build one, or a mixture which adds up to the total, ie; 3 subs and 2 tank divisions per day):

Half a nuke

1 carrier
2 battleships
3 AEGIS cruisers/cruisers
4 destroyers
5 submarines

3 bomber squadron
5 fighter squadrons

5 tank divisions
10 mechanised infantry divisions
15 infantry divisions

etc.

Part of what the Return to our Roots NES was about was de-regulation. That just increases it. If people are willing enough they can make sensible adjustments without the mod making them adhere to any kind of rules, pardon the battle one, which is essential.

A RTORNES is supposed to be about a free, open, group-writing session with a little bit of confinement to each person's writing side. 95% of regulation has to be avoided.

I agree with Toasty. If people begin making unrealistic assumptions, then they should be expelled or something.

But I do agree with army sizes, etc. cus i dont know what a sizeable army would be nowadays!

Yes, the armym size thing sounds ghood to me too. Also as a setting how do you like the sound of 10 years after the original Return to Roots NES for the base plot?

Hmmm, starting plots, love those lol(I like to write ones for the UKNESs)...

The year is 2012. The Soviet Union has risen once more, and the world is entering another Cold War, as the Russians discover a vast oil field in Siberia - one that could solve all their problems for good, and finally make them rival NATO.

But in this war, a new, deadly foe has arisen - the United Islamic Republic(UIR). With the collapse of Saddam Hussein's regime by the Western forces, the UN initiated democratic elections in Iraq.

As feared by the more civilised Middle Eastern nations, the Iraqi population voted for one of their own religion, not the branch that Saddam was from and that was closer to the Saudi branch of Islam.

The branch which had been elected made up most of the Iraqi population, and all of Iran's. This made tensions between those two nations a lot less, until with the death of the new President in suspicious circumstances, Iran invaded Iraq with little resistance, and were actually welcomed.

Soon, a Jihad was declared against Western nations, and the UIR invaded Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, with the overwhelming force of their combined armies and weapons from the reborn Soviet Union. The battles were fierce and bitter, but eventually the war was won. An oil embargo on the West by the UIR, which now controlled a large portion of the world's oil, threatened to destroy civilised nations.

The lack of oil brought the West to a halt, but America's carriers didn't require oil, and after intensive air strikes, the embargo was lifted, but the UIR remains in control of the Middle East.

Israel remains the last bastion of democracy in the Middle East, under attack from all sides, while America and Britain are forced to help only with covert operations or face having their oil cut off.

China has returned to Communism too, and Taiwan is under threat once more. The USA is trying to help, but now finds itself under threat, and rushing to build a Star Wars Defence System in a race against the Soviet Union.

Europe has joined to become one nation, one with a deep mistrust of foreigners, and a reluctance to help anyone.

Britain and the USA stand alone in a world full of mistrust and hatred. Can the friendship survive, or are they doomed to fail in their mission, and plunge the world into another Dark Age?

not another futire... if it will be one from the middle ages, or from the renesans (with the gun invated) i will play too, but we will develop our selfes, and build a world like todays world, just different history...
another idea is to start from prehistoric ages, when men was in africa only, and just started to scout out to europe (to find niadratels, another kind of human that fought the now only homu=spainies (all names in here are hebrew)) and scout to asia, and far america only started to be civilized... okiania is still unknown to anyone...

actually what i had in mind was this:

2015:

After the Iraqi war by combined British and American forces and massive nuclear detonations around the globe, Washington D.C., Brussels, London, and Paris are still in the process of rebuilding. Iraq is a wasteland now under the control of the Ireasli Empire. Russia is in the process of a massive civil war between communists and democrats. Italy has in the process of several wars conquered Eygpt, France, Spain, and Portugual creating a new Roman Empire. In Africa South Africa has expanded its borders as well creating the African Empire. With the recent development of the nanite defuser(from CTP) nukes across the globe have been destroyed thanks to the defuser. The world is free from nuclear war, but empires will once again be able to grow across the world without the fear of nuclear retaliation.

BTW, erez, judging from the forums modern day situations seem more popular, but should more people(3 at the least) want a medieval or earlier based Return to Roots NES i will be happy to make it so.

I would rather play a RTOR NES begining from the present day. Things are pretty exciting at bthe moment. Zimbabwe and Iraq crises it would give alot of scope.

I would deffinantly play as long as it didn't become hideously unrealistic like it did last time...

Europe, pardon Great Britain, would not have been touched by Saddam, because they wouldn't participate.

erez does have a good idea of scouting. It would require some randomness though, with me as a moderator. It would require a good map and onstant updates for immigration. Now that i think about i am goping to do it. Everyone starts in Africa as nomads and wanders to a place to start theri civilization. And to speed things up they will be able to move 4 territories a turn or something. For a while there will be a land bridge in Asia connecting to NA. This could also have technologic development and expansion. Erez had a very fine idea indeed.

don't forget that it supose to be as no rules as it can... and how can we find what civs (there was not countries thos days)we will play, there are not many if there are any...
i think that it should start after the man spreaded out the world like a bud, or a virus, but there are no civs yet, only setteling without any farms and stuff, yet...
in shumer (they called shumer in hebrew...) there was the first civ, and the first country with real borders...

Aldready been started erez. Come and join after all it was your idea.
