It is the year 2263, and the Earth is a barren wasteland. While colonies in the farthest reaches of space flourish, the life on Earth is slowly dwindling, mostly due to evacuation. Who knew that such destruction could occur.
It all started about twelve years ago, when a string of murders on Old Earth (The Earth was now the center of human galactic expansion) occured in New York City, in the America district. The police quickly found their murderer, but there was something odd about him. He had no motive to kill, and his murder patterns shot down the theory of a serial killer. While the man died in jail, more murders suddenly sprung up. They were all connected, like the origianl man, to people who had no motive whatsoever. The police were dumbfounded as the motiveless killings escalated, until one doctor discovered the most unlikely cause for the killings: a virus.
The virus, the doctor stated, was an unusual disease which produced virtually no symptoms, except for one. THe virus had a dramatic effect on the human mind, creating an overwhelming desire to kill. Citizens of Old Earth became panicked by the news, and so did the numerous colonies. Many colonies shut their doors to incoming Old Earth shuttles, lest the "Killer Syndrome" run rampant in their cities. Much of that changed when politicians of districts on Old Earth became infected. Consumed by bloodlust, they used nuclear weapons, photonic magnabombs (possibly one of the most lethal weapons ever invented, even more deadly then nukes), and any other means to start an Earthwide holocaust. After this, many colonies opened doors to refugees, prompted by not only the Old Earth Holocaust, but by new advances in medicine that told more about the Killer Syndrome.
By now, nearly all of the citizens on Old Earth have been rescued, and the last shuttle is leaving with around two dozen people. The GPO (Galactic Patrol Officer) just finished scanning the refugees for the disease, and he waves off the shuttle. But as the ship takes off for Subzero-23, the Starbase rotating around Pluto, the GPO's scanner device whirs and gives a warning buzz, much too late for his comforts. "DANGER: VIRUS DETECTED!"
Helplessly, the officer phones the shuttle and warns them of the virus. The crew is worried; they can't afford to return to Earth and they can't let the virus reach the starbase. The only option, they decide, is to hunt down the infected and eliminate them before all hope is lost...
Well, there you have it. This will be a regular old mafia game with a sci-fi flavor. Feel free to roleplay.
Your goal is to eliminate the infected (mafias) before you reach the starbase. Don't worry, you won't reach the base until the game ends.
