Freeware/Open Source Games

Here's a few from my bookmarks.

StrandedII, where you're stuck on a desert island and have to try to survive.
Enigma, logic puzzles based on Oxyd, an old game on the Atari.
Micropolis, which is actually SimCity Classic under another name, IIRC.
OpenTTD, open-source clone of Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Requires some graphic files from TTD.
Save the Russian Leopard, it's where you play the WWF, trying to save an endangered species, the Russian Leopard.
WolfQuest, a biological simulation of the wolf life. It's fun to just run around and try to kill other animals.
SuperTux, based on Super Mario Bros, but starring everyone's favourite penguin.
SuperTuxKart Cart racing game. I'm not very good at it and always end up flying off the road.

I maintain rather large collection of links to major Freeware and open source games. There are plenty of links to major mods for some of the commercial games I like or have liked (mainly RPG's). Feel free to check it out. Link is in my signature.

Perhaps the best multiplayer FPS game out there after CS, BF2 and Unreal Tournament:

Wolfenstein: Enemy Terretory.
Just a purely awesome game. Awesome enough that I would've donated if there was a donate button.

Also I'd like to promote a cool lil game called Dink Smallwood.
http://www.rtsoft.com/dink/

It might look bad but its really really good and funny and relaxing and...just great.
A bit slow NPC movement, that's all. It's not even buggy.

Holy crap, Dink Smallwood, I remember playing this for a few weeks many years ago. I never had the patience to make it very far though. It was sluggish and cliché I found.

Many of these links were blasts from the past for me! You know, Noctis needs a new version now. A version that my eyes can actually make sense of. It's such an awesome concept though... It's just, I tried playing it again a few months ago and the graphics... Well, yeah... I can't make sense of them anymore.

Spice Trade, where you're this poor young man who inherents some land, and you have to grow spices, and eventually beat Europe in the spice monopoly. (Oh, and it's only 190 MB. )

Some freeware/open source game sites. Not the ones that say 'free games!' but are actually demos of bargain-bin games.
Abandonia Reloaded
Acid Play Freeware Games
Best Freeware Games and Clones
Free Gamer - open source games

There's also a few lists of freeware/open-source games on wikipedia, but I'll leave them for people to get themselves. Just google "list of open-source games" or something.

And some I forgot to mention --
Simutrans -- looks a lot like Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Haven't tried it yet, but I will once I get my computer back.
Virtual U, where you're a university president. I have tried it but I can't figure out how to do anything.
Widelands, which I'm told is a lot like The Settlers. I tried it once (years ago), should try again.

You can get Railroad Tycoon here.

Here's some more games, I haven't tried any of them yet.
FreeTrain.
C-Evo, it looks a lot like CivII.
Extreme Tux Racer

Yup, Freeciv is pretty good (although I prefer the real Civ myself.)
And FreeCol.
If you have old NES ROMs, I've found Nintendulator to be a good emulator. I won't be linking to ROM downloads as they're technically illegal and I don't want to be breaking any forum rules. Google them yourself!

I found another one that looks interesting, I've installed but haven't tested it yet. City of Rauma. From what I see, the gameplay is somewhat like SimCity, but the graphics look TTD-inspired.

EDIT: Tried it. It was fun until I ran out of money. You don't really do much in it, though -- just build buildings and roads and stuff.

Commercial Games Released As Freeware
Open-Source Games
Free First-Person Shooters (not my thing, but thought I should link anyways.)

Also found a weird looking game -- Duck Doom Deluxe

Wesnoth seconded (http://www.wesnoth.org)

I'd also like to mention Teeworlds (http://www.teeworlds.com)

Both open source and among the best in their respective genre.
