PH15: Every One is Special

This is the culmination of my SE mini-series. First there were priests in PH10, then came merchants in PH11, spies and artists were for PH12, while the finished-without-me PH13 focused on scientists and engineers. Finally, in this last game, we look at all of the Great People

PH15: Every One is Special
Leader: Pericles of the Greeks
Rivals: 5 (Mehmed, pacal, biz, boudica, qsh)
Difficulty: Monarch
Map: Pangea, Natural Shoreline, Low Sea Level
Size: Standard
Speed: Normal
VC: All Enabled

Variant Rule:

* No-Cottage SE. The only exception is the capital. It may be cottaged, but may never generate GPPs (which includes those from wonders!)

* 8CC. The Greek Confederacy can only control eight (8) city-states, one dedicated to each Great Person, including Spy, Engineer, Merchant, Scientist, Artist, Priest, General as well as Athens, our capital. The GG city may ONLY build units or military-related buildings, i.e., Barracks, Stables, West Point, etc. Note: other cities can build these things, too, but the GG-city can ONLY build them.

* Each city will have a lag time before they must declare what kind of city they are, i.e., Spy, Merchant, etc. How long? I don't know yet ~

* Every Great Person we get can only be merged with its proper city.

* We must build The Parthenon.

Slots are open for the first five sign-ups!

Some of you may have a space reserved ~ remind me if you do! :)

Sounds like a very interesting game, would love to try out this strict parallel specialization! Of course the quote in you're sig is also a recommendation for a sign-up. :)

Is this PH15 or PH14?
The thread is PH15, but the title is PH14.

Seems like 13.

I would join, but am locked in 2 SGs (keep in mnd I have never played one before) and so I will lurk.

I'm in for another PH game! :)

What if we could build spy buildings only in spy city, market / grocer / bank in merchant city, barracks in military city and so on? Of course general buildings would be allowed in other cities as well.

I'll volunteer for some pholk 'wisdom'; but I'm playing very badly (even worse than usual) atm.

Probably is PH234 :D

If mr pholk wants another player for his SG, I'm in.... someone has to continue the SGs that pholk starts , right? :p

okay, the numbers were fixed. it was originally slated to be 14, but my "return of the disappearance" game took that, so, we ARE at 15!

anyway, meiz and rolo are signed, with pigs just in for general spamminess

so, three spots to go until the start gets posted ~

we also need to figure out how long a city can go without its specialization being declared. Imho, it should be decided from the get-go, from the dot map stage even!! and we should settle accordingly :yup:

Sounds good to me. What do you think about the idea of harder challenge by restricting buildings for every city? :p

I did humbly apply for a spot as well, if you'll have me of course. Hope you missed it instead of ignored it... :)

Are you sure you're a teacher?

Don't you recognise a sign-up when you see one?

Definitely my fault ~ i'll adjust and re-post the roster following. Meanwhile, here's a start-up post to get us moving a bit.

also, i forgot to mention the specialization: in true PH spirit, i would like to err on the side of difficult, and propose that we can not settle a 2nd city until we have a dot map for all of the 8 Greek city-states, and a specialization for each.

i would also hear arguments for settling and specializing as we go, as so far as having every city "open" for a certain amt of time

Time for some pedantry :satan:.

Can we capture a city instead of building one?

Are we limited to bulding 8 cities or owning 8 cities?

If we're limited to 8 cities what do we do about the rest?

Do we have to identify the cities in any particular order?

Are we limited to building wonders by city specialisation? e.g. we can only build Parthenon in art city.

You know what's really scary? If one puts "tolerance for jedis" into google, Pholks CVC quote shows up on the second page of results. Liq kids not!!!!

Cheers!

I basically had the same questions...

I would say that wonders can only be built in their appropiate city. For wonders that give specialists or specialists slots (GL, Angkor) that is obvious, but I think it would be nice that wonders be built according to GPP they generate. The only exception I would allow is the HE in the GG city. Otherwise all cities should have 100% GPP prodcution of their specific type.

I would also suggest that normal buildings may be built anywhere (except GG city as outlined by pholk), so that we're not deprived of being able to build Oxford and Wall Street in their corresponding places. Just refrain from using e.g. library specialists in other places than the science city.

As to the starts, A and B appeal to me most. Since Athens can't build any wonders it will be confined to being settler and worker pump and once it has done that the place should probably be cottaged all over for basic revenue. Both A and B (settle 1SE maybe) look quite ok for that.
If we're not allowed to build settlers until we have a full dotmap than maybe start A is best, just to be able to build something (3 workboats, other scout, worker, barracks) while mapping the surroundings fully.

I am ok with the rivals, but any particular reason why you selected these?

I'll be away by the way for Eastern from Friday the 10th till Tuesday the 14th but being 2nd in roster I guess I can play a set before that. Will check the thread while away and give unsolicited advice and humble opinions, but can't play during those days.

Liq ~ it's actually 7th on the list ~ Romanus Eunt Domus is there!! The other two best parts are: 1) The first result is the actual sign i lifted my avatar from (and the same protest obviously), and 2) the 3rd result: "“If they were REAL Jedi, they would know that ‘Jedi’ is the correct plural form" :rotfl:

I really like the idea of only being able to own greek-built cities, but i don't mind if we capture a couple tbh. It's an 8cc so we can only have 8 cities; anything else we raze.

wonders DO have to be kept filtered, but buildings are fine to be mixed. you can only hire, though, the right kind of specialist in each city. so basically, each specialized city can ONLY generate the "right" kind of GP points.

be happy i dropped the "any non-city-specific-GPPs generated must be KILLED!!" rule

edit for note on rivals: I'm ocd when it comes to rivals in this game as I think that the game really isn't that random and i'm always stuck with the same few leaders. :D so i use a deck of cards beforehand to choose rivals. it's not chance there's 52 leaders ;) :)
