Two Unit-Making Questions

I'm trying to make some more units, including a Fusilier that uses the Grenadier (with either the Janissaries or the Cannonier's head) on the Rifleman kfm. How do i remove the heads from one unit and place them on another's? I know it's a blender thing but they always come out really weird, because in blender the textures don't register, even after i convert the .dds file into a .tga. Then when i try to put the heads on, it causes NifViewer to crash, or sometimes just doesn't show the heads. How do i do this?

Also, i've noticed that on some units some parts are transparent (like the backpack on the scout). How do i do this, is this a blender thing, a nifscope thing, or a nifviewer thing?
 
I have also not learned to do this yet (you'd think it'd be the same as making leaderheads, but its not apparently) myself. I have successfully made a bunch of units but that is only using what is available to me. If I find the right body with a detachable head I'm fine, but I don't know how to edit the units myself. For instance; right now I am looking for a swordsman unit (can use any type of animations, praets, swords, whatever) that has a spearman's body and another unit's head (so I can replace it with what I need). That's all I am looking for and I can't seem to be able to find it.

But anyway, ditto @ what Mechaerik said. That information would be useful. Or at least an easy way around it.

I don't know how to use blender but in general everything you'd want to do should be possible with it.

You should definitly head over to the excellent tutorials regarding nifviewer and nifscope here on the forum both programs can be used to replace meshes of models but there's no two sentence explanation for this kind of task.

The latest scripts have native dds support, so you don't have to use tga files.

I would rip the head that you want off of the body and then export that as a nif. Then I'd remove the head from from the other unit, and then import and attach the new head to the body of your headless unit and export from there.

You can't just straight up delete vertices, though, at risk of losing the bone. I'd look through Ekmek's leaderhead tutorial, as that's where I learned how to do it. If you have any more questions, I'll try to go more in depth. :)
