Preview: Pollution

Edit: Here is my second attempt at pollution, made them in the style of Pounder's Carnage Pollution, because the grey tones are visable on all terrains.

I decided to take the advise and try to make them look like something that needed to be cleaned up and has some texture.

Tryed to make a preview that shows all terrain types and how it appears around rivers, etc....

Needs a little more texture. It looks a bit too salt and pepper-ish. ;)
 
I think, that the colours for the pollution are not optimal, especially when the pollution occurs on tundra terrain.
 
Colors other than white really need to be used for pollution to set it apart from snow.
I really do not care for the Original Game Pollution and have made some different looking types but at least the original pollution stands out as UNDESIRABLE and gets your attention as well as appear as something you want to get rid of :)

I believe pollution should show Objects such as dead trees with the "Substance" surrounding them to indicate that it is NOT a Good Area :lol:

Pollution is a difficult thing to try and represent in the CIV Game but how ever it is done, it should stand out as a separate thing and appear as an area that anyone would like to have cleaned and cleared of it.
 
That indeed looks like snow. What I'd prefer in pollution is icky lime-green stuff with rusty barrels sporting biohazard signs. Unfortunately, the game does not distinguish volcano damage from normal pollution, so that would be unsuitable overall. Just a comment from the peanut gallery...
 
Once upon a time I experimented with using a greenish smoke (taken from the incense resource) as pollution. Here's an example of that pollution all over New York City:

I've meant to get back to that at some point (after the hundred other things) to make it a little "smoggier", but at least it fits different terrains....

Perhaps it's an idea you'd like to play with. Here's the file I made:

..as if Pollution is not difficult enough already, it has to also go with Volcano Eruptions unless you are only making Pollution for CIV III "Vanilla".

I know what you are saying.

I thought that this might be able to pass for something covered in ash from a volcano, and I was thinking of burnt out/abandoned houses/subdivisions that would have to be demolished. This is more than needing to be demolished, they are already to the ground and just have to be taken away.

I'm not clear whether you think I am wasting me time or not.
 
I don't think you are wasting time, I do believe that Pollution should be something other than any Ruined buildings because there are not buildings everywhere and it looks strange to have them show where they were not in the first place.
Try to make Pollution that can go on any terrain and also with Volcanos.
...Rather than showing something that has been affected by pollution...I believe Pollution itself should be shown. That way, the Pollution can fit anywhere on a map and it should also fit in with Volcano "pollution". It is a Tough Task Indeed.
 
Goldfool... I uploaded some Pollution that I use at this point as well as some others to show some different colors that can be applied.
I also included a Skull I made with and without a post that can be used for Pollution or where ever else is wanted.

I believe Fraxis is corect to show Game Pollution as a Thing of itself...I just happen to not care for the Plain Bright Orange splotches.
Not that My Pollution is anything Great... I just want to impress that the Game Pollution that we use for our games really needs to show pollution itself and also try to go with Volcanos so it can be used in CIV III/ Conquest and PTW.

You can probably come up with better Pollution and you are welcome to use anything of mine that will help in any way.

I like the Aged Images better.
My main thought concerning Pollution is that when it appears, it should be something that shows pollution only because if there are no buildings and all of a sudden we see Ruins, it seems odd. Splotches with Color and texture that can go anywhere seems to be the way to go. That way Pollution itself will show over any terrain or structure. It is just an added problem to also have it go with Volcanos.

...Start with the Original Pollution and Change all colors of it to Green for example. You can then use that as a template and paste it over any texture/colors/images you like with the green areas set as Transparent.
This can help to gain the Splotches for Pollution itself as you want it to look. Then you can add other Objects such as Dead Birds, etc...

I believe pollution should stand out as Very Ugly and Easily seen on the map but it is Good to try to have it appear as Pollution rather than the Result of it.

I suppose a Sign could be made that stated Pollution as well as many Polluted Objects added but again, this would not show the Pollution itself.
 
I use Dead People as Pollution in EFZI2 But there are No Volcanos.

Kinboat made Dead People Pollution, some with Graves and Tombstones, Crosses, etc... a long time ago. I adjusted the Images in many ways and made a new Palette. This looks Good for Dead Bodies but I also needed the Graves in EFZI2 to fit the Graveyard.



IF Dead Bodies were to be used as General Game Pollution, that could work but Graves and Tombstones may not be wanted. Also the Look of the Dead People and what they are wearing would need to be changed to "Fit" any Era or Game.

I may Try to make General Game Pollution that can Fit all that it needs to as well as Most Games... but this will require a lot of thought and effort.

...Maybe Others have Opinions concerning Game Pollution that would help gain some Ideas as to what it should Look like.

GoldFool... Yes, a Few Dead Bodies here and there is a Good Idea but with they continue to look as though they belong in all Eras and all Game Maps?

Blue Monkey... Rats? :lol: Well I guess Rats do enjoy Pollution but I doubt they would Like Lava from a Volcano Eruption.
