While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Religious (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Deity
 • Starting Era: Ancient
 • Map Size: Small
 • Map Type: Any
 • Speed: Epic
 • Civ: Any
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: 3.17.001
 • Date: 10th to 25th April 2009
Must not play as Inca.

The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

Hmmm....not very challenging. Any civs on any map. Should get a lot of participation just cus it's Deity/minor.

This may be interesting, I'm not experienced in the religious victory so it will be informative at the least. I hope the discussion on this thread will be as helpful as the last g-minor; I really learned a lot from that gauntlet. I look forward to seeing tips and pre-game thoughts from the pros!

This should be an exercise in building the Oracle to slingshot Theocracy. If you miss the Oracle, start over and try again.

Not particularly challenging. Should be fun to get another Diety Gauntlet finished...this one a Minor.

I had a pretty weak attempt at this one. For some reason, Perecles (who was the only nonBuddist player) decided to spread my AP religion (Christianity) to all of his cities. None of my "friends" spread it at all. It took me until 1100 AD to get the other players up to the 75% threshold for victory.

I think I am the first, so 1100 AD is the (easy) time to beat for now...provided the HOF Staff accept my crash recovery that is. The AP animation caused my game to freeze. POS Vista Laptop!

I'm sure the answer is so obvious it doesn't need to be listed for most people but...

Does this one need a certain version? I don't remember "Religious" victory in either vanilla or warlords (I almost always play warlords) so guessing it must be BtS?

Edit: Figured it out. Would just delete this but I can only edit not delete. :)

If version HOF mod starts with 1 it's vanilla, 2 it is warlords and 3 it's BtS.

This should assure a really long list of players who are brave enough to take on Diety for the next update.

Like I said...an easy time to beat.

beaten
I'll let you guess what's to beat, but it's BC.

My time should be easy to beat too, I didn't manage the oracle. (It was built before I started it!)
I relied on a great prophet for lightbulbing theology.

It was my third attempt already!
- first time I overexpanded, and needed over 20 turns to get writing :(
- second time, all was good, except brennus declared on me. what a mess! I was running his favourite civic, we had open borders, I traded him resources, and he still thought I was a target...
- third time, I used only peaceful neighbours. Not as easy to get to friendly, but at least they didn't attack. Problem is those peaceful bunch of deities build all the wonders before you start them, including oracle. well, egypt's UB got some use this time.

I didn't say I had a good time. In fact, I pointed out that it was bad. I went through several AP votes before I finally got a victory. The only reason I submitted such a late finish was because it was my first attempt with the Gauntlet settings, and I checked off another civ on Diety.

Just play OCC, that'll keep you from over-expanding.
Seriously, there's no benefit playing OCC, but there's also no reason for a 2nd city.
The 2nd city builds missionaries to spread AP religion while the 1st city builds the AP.

I keep forgetting, do you have to stay in the same religion now when you are building the AP or can you still change 1 turn before completion?

I had a try as Saladin (he's got to be good for something ;)) but didn't get close to founding Christianity.

I ran 2 scientists off the Madrassa for the first GP and then switched to priests, I think I should have just ran priests from the off. Building stonehenge or oracle is probably the best bet though.

I played Lakes because world wrap is allowed for that map but may go Inland sea again (I'd rather get rid of lakes in my EQM list though).

I play random opponents and will only turn of barbs if it looks like it is going to be impossible otherwise ;), so I researched archery ASAP. I know I'm not going to finish 1st in this gauntlet anyway

You need to have a state religion when you start building AP and you must have "right" state religion 1 turn before AP completion, in the mean time you can make a suitable choice to keep every one happy :)

I got another poor finish. I managed to spread the AP religion (Hindu this time) and build the AP early, but Cyrus DOW Lincoln and took over Boston (which was the only American Hindu city). This slowed the game as I didn't notice this until it was too late. I just couldn't figure out why the vote wasn't coming up.

Oh well, it was another victory with another civ checked off my Diety EQM. It was an improvement on my first try too.

Damn i want to play huyana for his techs and traits, but he is banned due to the UU :(. So what civ to play and what civ to include or do i have to search? How many civs to include? I guess Hatty/Ramses/zara/ghandi is the default? What map to play on? Anything better than pangea?
