All Nighters

Back when Civ 1 came out, I spent 28 hours straight playing it :eek: The old DOS version, kind of funny too, wasn't even on my computer. Played it over at my friends house, lol.
 
Bad memories for me...I've done a couple this semester, where I was @ my limit trying to type 3000 words. The caffeine overdrive let me play at 2pm...a day after waking up @ 11 am w/ no sleep. Wasn't all civ. I completed the assignment, too, and got an A. My 2nd let's play was done in such a state...it's an amazing feeling in a sense, almost like being a different person from the delusions :p.

I try to avoid doing that as a rule though. It hurts the next day (when you sleep then wake up following a 36+ hour awake period), a lot. Migraine, crappy feeling, etc. I definitely recommend getting sleep and neglecting something else instead.

That's the caffeine, not a lack of sleep. Back in middle school, before we discovered alcohol and weed, we used to take massive ammounts of No-doz. Man we were some stupid kids... But yeah, there is nothing that compares to a caffeine hangover, it's god awefull.

The caffeine withdrawal is a bigger component, but believe me, there's something about screwing your sleep cycle over entirely that has a nasty negative impact too...
 
Wrote my dissertation in Biochemistry on circadian rhythms. Messing with them can increase the likelihood of cancer. But I guess so does most everything else.
 
I think it's funny that you guys are talking about how late you've stayed up playing Civ... in the middle of the night (or at least where I live) :lol:
 
Hmm, gotta be my first BTS game, huge ice age islands map on marathon, played in one go for 23 hours of pure civ pleasure :D
 
The last time I played an all night Civ game was in '03, during the Carthaginian-Mongolian crisis - the cops found me slumped in my chair, my head lying on the keyboard, the next turn button blinking...the police report simply read "4:33 A.M. Suspect claimed he'd saved the world from the barbarian hordes, but had run out of Diet Coke and fallen asleep. Suspect then said he had diplomatic immunity and demanded to speak with Sid Meier."
 
Wow, I can never play civ for more than a couple hours before I just get restless. My pride comes from playing the longest over time (i.e. my longest game was around 70 hours, took me a couple weeks to complete).

You are a machine! Longest for me was from 7AM to 10 PM (not an all-nighter, just an all-dayer).
I had nothing to do that day so i fired up erikPC (my computer's name) and started playing. Playing all night is'nt an option for me, what with school and parents.
 
I need to play more... :sad:

My longest play duration was 6 pm to 10 pm, but this was non-stop as in no breaks etc.

My longest play duration with breaks is basically any free time I got on any day from 9 am to 11 pm.
 
I think my longest CIV IV stretch is probably 8 hours; more than that and I worry about getting blood clots. :)

TMIT's right about sleep deprivation - it'll leave you a total mess. I remember a training exercise when I was in the Army that was almost 72 hours of wakefulness - the recovery was brutal. 9/11 was no great shakes either; for a week home was just a shower and a three hour nap. It takes your body awhile to recover from something like that.

Besides, I REALLY like sleep - I'm not going to let some game get in the way of that. :D

I kind of go alone the same lines but i do play for more than a cpl hrs. Sometimes four or five. But my longest game was my first CIV 4 game...84 hrs gametime:crazyeye:
 
I have only had the game a few months and my playtime has been increasing (one...more...turn!)
But so far my longest playtime has been a nice long all nighter from 10 pm to 9 am

No way dude. Sim Ant was AWESOME (prolly civ I was too but I didn't play it...). You had friends. LOTS of friends. Like hundreds-to-thousands of them. All black ants. They didn't hate, even if you were yellow. They'd even kill things for you. What's not to like?!
