Do you think some of the sounds included in the attachment could fit for native life* selection/action/attack/death sounds and/or environment sound for when a unit walks into a fungus plot?

* Mind Worm, Spore Launcher, Fungal Tower, Locust of Chiron, Isle of the Deep, Sealurk

Cool I will check them out, will see if I can get some artwork to you as soon as I can get Shawn to do them for you. He will love messing around with it, he just learned python, XML, Java scripting and a little PHP scripting. Linux, networking, blah blah.

I will either PM you on my site or post my opinion on sounds. Not that my opinion means a whole hell of a lot. :P

:crazyeye: OMG Maniac, there are NEW wonderful perfect sounds for everything in the game, blooms spread, spore launder base or I forget now what they are called. Beta testing 4 Mods right now, one on Sins of a Solar Empire. :scan:

Spider file, were all the worm sounds, plus many other unique sounds to fit the game as you summarized already, why you thought of them. :goodjob: Now the sounds are better then original once you match them up to the units etc.

I did know how to Mod the game way back when I tested it and for 1 yr after. If you need any help with some Tips on techs or anything like that non coder wise, let me know. ;) I want to keep helping you improve this Mod, I miss SMAC a lot but the graphics *cough* game play keeps me coming back. Rumor mill was running about some sort of new expansion then if fizzled I contacted 2 I know, nothing happening.

Planetfall has been using the SMAC ambience for some time now. So I figured I'd ask: do you consider it an improvement over what was used before: the vanilla modern era soundtrack? I'm especially wondering if you like the Spartan and Believer sound.

These sounds are creepy crawly man!

After you posted this, I tried to pay a bit more attention to the soundtrack - and I have mixed feelings.

It's nice to hear the good old SMAC ambience and nostalgia kicks in - and nostalgia is a huge thing, when I hear it, I think of far too many hours spent on SMAC/X (that I should've spent on school work back then! ).

On the other hand, they do sound a little bit dated, with their MIDI-esque sound. Furthermore... they are a bit flat - I may be spoilt by FfH2 - but the thing is: The ambience is really ambience, not really music. When I play FfH2, the music goes "wham" and produces immersion.

So, I'm not really 100% sure. I definitely hope that the ambience stays and it's very nice to have it - but having something else to mix it up probably wouldn't hurt (from my point of view, of course - and I think nice soundtracks got more important for me - back in the 90s, music in games was MIDI-stuff and SMAC was pretty cool - I just have the feel that newer games take advantage of better PCs, better quality music in the game industry and that my personal standards for have gone up as a result).

For example, I really like the diplomacy/cityscape music of Believers, University, Hive, Morgan and partially Gaians (for Gaians, I think it takes to look to get "good" for diplomacy, the track needs to play a bit to get really good). If there's more music like that, it would be nice to have some of it mixed into the soundtrack - they really capture the "feel" and "character" of the faction and put you into the right mood.

However, I wouldn't mind it we'd only keep the ambience.

Cheers, LT.
