All the players of sucession games in Civ IV already saw a thread that hops from time to time to the top of the first page ( or, like LKendter said: "the thread that never ends" :D ) the RB1 - Cuban Isolationists , played by Sirian and Sullla, that most likely is the father of all the wacky variants in the Civ IV SG area ( in spite of being a rehash of RBD7 SG - Cuban Isolationists , played by Charis and Sirian ( I strongly suggest ppl to read that, in spite of being a Civ III SG with almost 7 years..... Charis was a very..... charismatic :mischief: player and a proficuous user of the :hammer: smiley :D ) )

As Warlords and BtS brought some changes in the game units and mechanics, I thinked that it would be interesting to give the variant a go. And after talking with Sullla ( Sirian is unactive in CFC for quite a while ), I decided to start......
And we blew it :p

The fact is that a very unforgiving start and some lack of focus in the first sets made our civ to go hopelesslly backward and we decided to retire after being fighting cuirassers with trebuchets and with no signs of eventual recovery. So, I decided to run.....

:old:RR4- Spain on a lake....Again:old:

Ruleset ( completely copied from RB1 ...... )
* NO OPEN BORDERS
* No map trades
* Our ships may not leave culturally controlled waters.
Clarification of more problematic issues ( vassals territory, for a example ) will follow democratic vote with myself being a tie breaker if needed. Madrid being the holy city of 3 religions is optional, but strongly encouraged ( if we go that way, I expect full focus :/ )

Game settings:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0442.jpg

I decided to go Fractal with low sea level as sugested

And the start:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0443.jpg

Surprisingly it has Spain and a lake ( again :p ) , but this time it looks a little more player friendly.

Roster will count with 5 players and 2 alternates. Players of RR3 will have priority for the spots.

Roster:
r_rolo1
Ad Hoc
LKendter
GreyFox
Thy_Spellcraft

( names marked with (?) are players of RR3 that already showed interest in the game )

Alternates
---------
---------

Hopefully we'll not have to break our variant to win, as RB1 team had to ;) And maybe, just maybe, winning would be nice :D

Lurker:

Looks like you'll have to settle 1N. That settles this discussion at least :p

Good luck guys :hammer:

So you're actually planning to settle on a non-plains-hill-tile? :p

More seriously, you'll only have two coastal tiles when settling 1N but get a river (and it does look like it is adjectant to lots of future-BFC-tiles) :deal:

Well official sign me back in. Lets make a clear religion plan this game - I don't want another non-hyrda game...

i'm in

No one expects the Budd/Hin/Jud inquisition. but lets at least try for it. :goodjob:

Chasing the hydra i'd settle in place, one turn of research is one turn of research.

Stupid lurker question: In the last game and in this one, Spain seems to be on a small lake which gives it 2 fpt in each tile, and on a larger lake (sea?) that gives it 1 fpt in each tile. Does this mean Spain doesn't get the full benefit that it might on a different (mid-sized?) lake? Or is there some other element that comes into play here?

Thanks in advance.

The "idea" is to have a mediocre (2f) tile with max commerce (2) to work while getting as many of the early religions as possible. More than 1 2/0/2 tile is unnecessary as it will be decided who gets the the early religions befoure you reach pop2.

Being connected to the ocean only means that you can build a lighthouse and later caravels/galleons.

I vote settle in place - I want the Hyrda, and don't want to delay a turn

Well, we wanted a hydra, so we had to start by meditation. But first, settling on spot:

Cyrus came from the NW and Zara from the east. Monty, zara and cyrus in the same continent... this will be interesting.

Hut luck:

But 3 turns before our Poly......
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0467.jpg

To add to our miseries, it was in our island. Cyrus. Given that he doesn't start with Myst, he probably beelined Poly.... Rats :(

I decided to play until 1 turn before poly:

No 3 headed hydra for us.....

Oh there can be a 3headed hydra for you. You got the oracle, why not get COL? With judaism, that's 2 3 religions. And there's still theo (bulb) if you're desperate.

IMO believing to found the 3 early religions on monarch is unrealistic anyway.

Looks like a VERY interesting game here. Land looks good, good enought for fighting over it :hammer:. Also, I don't remember seing such a long mountaing range near a river ever before .

Really looking foreware to seing how it goes ;) Good luck :D
