First, a question. Should we make this an "Emperor Student" series? At this point most of the regulars play Emperor and are moving up to Immortal, so it seems a bit pointless to keep hosting Monarch WB saves when everyone plays them at Emperor.
The Immortal university is just a level above, but there's such a jump between Emp and Imm. So the 2 series could easily coexist with no "overlap" at all.

Anyway, the game of this week is a standard Monarch WB save, and our leader is good old Giggles. Mentioned a lot lately on these boards as one of the best leaders.

Cre/Pro isn't really amazing, but he has a pretty impressive beard:

The real strenght of Sumeria isn't in the leader, but in the unique stuff.
The UU is pretty much a super-early swordsman with a bonus vs melee:

And his courthouse replacement doesn't only comes with Priesthood, but is cheaper to build:

Starting techs are agri/wheel, one of my fav combos. And we have a very strong starting location.

As always, barbs on, events off.

Emperor student probably does make sense since many of us have moved up. Wow - can anyone say bureaucracy capital? A gold mine we can work almost immediately. Early tech rate should be out of this world.

Might be a good idea to make it an Emperor series. If you do though, I really hope someone will make a new Monarch one (or I will have to ).

Anyway, gonna give this a go, even though I have a ton of school work to do (have to relax somehow).

The start seems... well... amazing. I say move warrior NW and settle in place unless theres something juicy N or NW of the now moved warrior. Tech Mining-BW to see if we can rush someone with Vultures; then Pottery and start cottaging up.

Of COURSE there's overlap. The IU host plays in here already ;). But, much as with cities, overlap is not a bad thing.

By the way, IMO settle in place...

An emperor series would be nice :).

I am currently working on Immortal but an emperor student game is still really nice to practice

Great looking start - 6 FP's, riverside gold, corn, forests and more riverside grassland. Settle in place and aim for early pottery probably. Will have to wait to see surrounding land and neighbors before calling this an easy start though. Agree that starting techs go nicely here.

No metal/horses in BFC means 2nd city wants to grab them if available. Actually looking closely - 2W might be not be forested so could pop a resource.

Spoiler :

Started this on emperor

Been playing this till 700 AD. My start was so incredibly fast, popped worker, got hunting out of a cottage. Teched to archery in between.
Noticed I was facing to protective civs so decided to go to 5 pop then pump settlers to 6 cities, and my tech lead was so big I got apathic. Didnt scout the entire map, didnt notice that I was playing on an island till it was to late.
Was to lazy to pick the marble resource to the south, and therefor all the wonders got picked off me just before I finished it.
Still a winnable game though, lib around 1k AD, and I dominate my island, but made so many mistakes that I dont want to continue to play .

Might restart it again, if I got the time.

Monarch/Epic/No events to 10 AD

Spoiler :

Settled in place. West side of the BFC isnt as spectacular as east but its still great start. Early research went Mining-BW-Pottery-AH-Fishing-Sailing or something like that. Soon I meet the 2 AIs on my continent. One is somewhat fine the other not so much.

Worse yet, SB is right on top of me. There is a lot of space to expand south and east but I decided to leverage those Vultures and send SBs protective butt to oblivion.

First I wanted to settle the Bronze city on the other side of the continent, but then I discovered a source of bronze right on top of SB which made matters simple. I teched Sailing so I could start building Vultures ASAP.

civ4screenshot0004.jpg

Good thing I had a clear view of Cahoka. Only defended by 2 archers, I took my chances with 6 Vultures hoping SB wont get another archer in those turns it takes me to reach him.

civ4screenshot0005.jpg

He didnt and while losing 3 Vultures, Cahokia is mine. Turns out pretty good. Lets wipe SB from the face of this continent.

civ4screenshot0006m.jpg

Mound city with its laughable defensive force of 1 Archer stands no chance and Poverty Point is in a similarly bad situation later on (although SB managed to get a Dog Soldier there). With that Sitting Bull is eliminated.

civ4screenshot0007.jpg

Few turns later I confirm my suspicions that this continent is home only to Mao and me. And since no one has founded a religion here, I do the obvious thing and go for CoL. Im also quite happy that all 3 early religions are on the other continent making for some religious wars hopefully.

civ4screenshot0009.jpg

I proceeded to REX, although Mao beat me to a golden spot near out borders. I guess I will have to take that spot by force (or culture or via AP). Anyway, I teched priesthood for Ziggurats and Monarchy for happiness which was finished turn before I stopped playing. Here is my empire at 10 AD. 8 Cities with 1 more decent spot and a Settler on the way.

And this host play the IU (more like get owned in the IU  ). Double overlap!

Mighty laziness here, so 2 WB saves are out of question. Next one will be an Emperor save. People can still play it at Monarch anyway.
But we don't make it to XX this way. I think I'll cheat, name it Emperor Student and keep counting.

More like "tile swapping".

Your plan sounds good...keep the #'s/leader order and just use emperor saves :p. Kaytiekat can win at emperor anyway .

I'm not too sure about changing it to emperor student. Even if the only change is the name, that leaves a big jump from Noble's Club. As it is now, noble/prince players have a game, monarch/emperor players have one, and now immortal/deity have one too. Prince to monarch seems to be one of the biggest jumps in difficulty, and this series helped me a lot making that jump. It seems like we just need a new influx of monarch level players. Maybe lead more players to these games? There are a lot of "help me on monarch" topics.

I've always seen this series as a monarch/emperor game anyway. Changing the label doesn't really seem necessary, but if anything, I would go with something like Monarch/Emperor Student.

Trying this one on immortal. Good leader / UU / UB combo and excellent starting position.

JBossch deity series has been sooooo unkind...like a hard punch in the nose. Might actually be able to win. Oops, just jinxed myself.

No worries. You won't get monty/shaka this time.

You'll probably just get genghis khan, napoleon, and toku .

I play monarch and plan to play these, even if I don't get around to posting results. But an emperor save is okay too if I can just WB it down.

I plan to play when I get home, and as everyone knows, I am a big stickler for playing the settings in the spirit of the thread =D.

With that start, this civ and your skill level, I don't care who the other civs on the map are (and I haven't checked yet), I'm certain you'll absolutely demolish this one on monarch. Since I won my first immortal game (with the crutch FIN trait), I'm going to deviate from the spirit of the thread and continue to try to test myself at immortal with less stellar traits (although I'm warming a bit to protective, and creative suits itself well to turf wars).

immortal with less stellar traits

!?!!> Wha?????????????????????????????????????????????

I'm actually somewhat of a creative junky when I play offline games :) . That and Org ^^. Matter of fact, now that I think about it, the leaders I usually use offline are:

Cathy, Zara, Asoka, Pericles, Fredrick, Giglamesh, Napolean, Sury, and of course Hatty!

I'm certain you'll absolutely demolish this one on monarch.

The goal is a 400 beaker capital by 1000 AD

Trying Immortal again, epic speed, 10 AD:

Spoiler :

Pretty standard early game.

Ok, I've got a bit of free time, so I think I'll try this one out.
Just a quick question though, Civil Service will spread irrigation to the corn by way of the city right? I sort of remember seeing irrigation spread through a city, but I could have been mistaken.

Edit: assuming settling in place I mean
