Attention modders! In order to organize the modding tutorials and reference better, we have created the Civilization Modding Wiki here on CivFanatics. :)

The goal of this wiki is to be a reliable and comprehensive reference for all things related to Civilization modding. If you'd like to contribute, feel free to register and start writing. Note that the wiki is separate from the forum and has its own login system.

If you have suggestions, ideas, or questions about the wiki, please feel free to post them here.

ooh social networking AND a wiki! CFC is so web 2.0!!! :D :D :D :D :D :rudolf:  :egypt: :yeah: :yeah:

great work TF! I will def use this if I ever get civ4, enjoy it, become immersed in it, get involved in modding, and need easy access to a tutorial or reference. :)

Great ! :)

It makes years i mod and some XML lines are still very difficult to understand. I will be very happy to receive the waited "divine lights" about a few XML lines.

Now, what are you really waiting from us ? What kind of help ?
For non-english language natives, like me, helping may be difficult. Writing in a good english isn't my cup of tea. ;)

I know WPC has some modding plans but not sure if this is one of them. :p

As you know, modding is a very important part of the community here. While we feel we have been supportive of the modding community, we are happy to do more to support the community better. :)

People have requested we host a wiki before, but I didn't really plan to make one at that time, partly because I didn't know much about wiki software, and partly because there were already a few Civ4 wikis around (though some of them have since disappeared due to hosting problem).

I started to seriously consider hosting a wiki locally after I created a wiki for Rhye 4 or 5 months ago at his request. It only took me less than 30 minutes to setup that wiki for Rhye, even though I had no prior experience installing wikis. So that was a pleasant surprise. I certainly became more interested to host a wiki for the community after that.

It's important for site admins to identify the need of the community and meet that need. :) In this case, we see a locally hosted modding wiki to be of great value to the modding community here.

Good. Nice to have the tutorials centralized.

Hi Thunderfall,

Among the needs, a simple explanation of the tags of the XML sheets can be good. Players who want to learn how modding simply with XML could be greatly helped with such an add-on. Sometimes, even old modders, like me, can be helped too. ;)

I've transferred a bunch of links to tutorials over to the wiki. I would appreciate it if people would move over the documentation I have on XML files (what little of it there is, particularly Civ4LeaderHeadInfos) at Civ4 Modding Reference (link in sig, for now) over the wiki ASAP. I plan to discontinue the site when all the info is moved to the wiki due to lack of time for me to add all the info in.

Thanks deanej. We are off to a good start! :) I will help moving those over.

Excellent!

I remember there used to be a civ4 wiki before, but I don't remember the old URL. It's even better than we're hosting one here!

The wiki's address is modiki.civfanatics.com, right?
In Russia, we have civfanatics.ru. And it has got a wiki at modiki.civfanatics.ru.
That Slavonic name "modiki" is to my liking, hehe.

I'm nearly finished work on the Civ4UnitInfos reference - if anyone can understand the tags, a hand on XML reference would be great.

EDIT: Finished, but there are a few unidentified tags in bold

Means "little mods" in Russian :goodjob:

Categories! Use categories!

I just wrote an article to my application Mapview and noted that the current category system is almost not present.

For now i'd suggest creating the main categories: Civ 2, Civ3, Civ4 etc. so every new category can atleast be part of that until there's a more decent place.

I'm going to bump this thread in the hopes that it will encouragee more people to contribute.

Also, I'm going to leave the suggestion that maybe only registered users should be allowed to create/edit pages (as freezing the Talk: Format of new XML pages page seemed like it only temporarially stopped the vandalism).

I designed the SDK Template. It'll be a major pain attempting to make a table for every single function, but hey! it'll be worth it in the end.
