Welcome to my last Role Play Challenge game that I am hosting and playing out! These games have been alot of fun to play and I hope they have also provided an educational element into how to play Civilization IV. Some have said I should play as Sid for the very final RPC, but I am unworthy to play as him. So this is the end!:D

The last leader is Kublai Khan, going full circle from the first RPC I played as Ghengi Khan! The title is "All Good Things.....", of course short for all good things must come to an end, as all leaders have been played and have an entertaining if not too impressive tale associated with them (some have multiple!). You may also call this RPC "The Heir Apparent", "Return of the Mongolians", "The Bastard Usurper", "There Will Be Blood", or simply "VENGENCE"

So what is the RPC about? He's a Khan Dammit, what do you expect!

First the settings

Monarch at marathon speed.

Map: Huge Terra map with 18 leaders! Normal everything else. I like the idea of tracking down renegade leaders in the new world!

The Time victory has been turned off. All other are active although we MUST win by conquest

Rules!

Kublai is a different leader than his grandsire, yet a Khan nonetheless. So here are the victory conditions.

1) CONQUEST VICTORY: Any Khan worth his namesake would accept nothing less!

2) NO VASSALS: The AIs can certainly take their own vassals, but Kubla cannot. Thus every DIES!

3) NO TRIBUTE: No khan ever gives tribute, nor bounty for a peace pact. Ever.

4) GENERALS: unlike his grandsire, Kublai sees the versatility of Great Generals so he may use them as he see's fit.

5) CAPTURED CITIES: No RPC is worth while without a "Challenge". Kublai "should" raze all cities, except for . All Khan's determine what cities they spare or raze, just to make that clear!

6) WONDERS: Useless trash. We don't need them except perhaps the Great wall and the Pentagon.

This is also an RPC about PAYBACK! So we are preselecting the leaders here, all of which have caused us headaches or defeats in past RPCs

1) Shaka: Numerous losses, most recently Happy Hatty.

2) Ragnar: Louis and Alexander II

3) Saladin: Mao I and Gilgamesh

4) Suryavarman: Numerous iterations in the same game

5) Hatshepsut: Cultural win over Fred

6) Hyuna Capa: Shaka I

7) Pericles: Tokugawa

8) Montezuma: How can we forget that cheesy AP win in Hammurabi's game.

9) Willem: Such a noble foe in Mao II

10) Mansa Musa: Almost beat us in the Willem game.

11) Boudica: For foiling Washington's love life.

12) Zara: For sticking it to DeGaulles League

13) Justinian: For the backstab in Charlemagne I, plus I like a good Zealot

14) ISabella: Because I like a bad zealot, plus she was a pain in teh Churchill game.

15) Gandhi: Just because I don't think I ever got a good chance to slap him arround in an RPC.

16) Tokugawa: For spoiling the peace in the Pericles game.

17) Hannibal: Because of the Abe-RPC game.

So enough of this intro stuff, let's look at what we have to work with

Our Mighty Leader

The game's settings

KKstart0002.jpg

Just in case I was not clear.

And the start

KKstart0001.jpg

Last RPC is a charm! Rivers, forrests, hills, and not a single damned visable resource! Perhaps we got some more valuable resources around

So the order I am thinking, Animal Husbandry, chariots, death. In that order!

PS: As this is the last RPC I ask and welcome all posters to make a post, all comments are welcomed (just don't tell the Khan how to run a war!).

Good ol' BTS production capital. KK is aggressive, so you might prefer to go the copper route instead, which makes sense given that you will want to be doing a lot of early chopping.

Great timing...I can play this weekend until my older comp crashes on the huge map. :p

I'll even play at your insane marathon speed just because it is your last RPC and I've enjoyed them so much.

Looks like we are near the coast from my fog-gazing...so I'll probably move the scout that direction and if it is coast...move the settler inland a bit. AH->mining->BW

Mad, you need to replay the gandhi rpc. Seriously. Who else is with me?

Since I've become aware of this forum, you've been a fixture, if you will. I'm not too sure I would visit as frequently as I normally do without you. Not to say that I want to play forever, I'm just expressing my disappointment. Ah well. C'est la vie. All good things must end.

Chop out 3 workers. Chop out 3 settlers. Build Keshiks. Kill.

You have 2 flood plains at least, I think.

Hmm is that flooded plains I spy to the west?

Seems very likely that the water to the south is the coast, and as such its quite possible that there would be a food resource down there, but otherwise north for production heavy capital for military dominati0n seems like a good plan :)

My words! :D

On topic I'd also opt for the Scout SW and perhaps move the Settler N if coastal, and for teching BW first. The map calls for heavy chopping and this will be mainly a hammer game anyway, if I got that right.

National Wonders are fine, all of them!

Regarding Gandhi RPC, I consider it over for two reasons. 1) Gandhi won a pacifist RPC just before the war-monger one, so the evil Gandhi was a bonus, and 2) I already showed the warring spirit of the Indian people in the Asoka game!

Scout to the hill. If you see water+fish/clams/crabs, move to there. Otherwise, move inland. Definitely go find horses, then have some fun.

Wouldn't it have been a better idea to turn off domination win as well as time? With no vassals, you really have to limit yourself on settling land. It is going to be insanely hard to track down and kill all the AI's spamming settlers. It will end like a OCC conquest game.

As far as opening military, did you seriously advocate chariots when you're one tech away from a top 2 UU? Maybe build a few chariots if you get barracks up before HBR is done, but there's no reason to use mainly chariots.

And if you don't have horse, I would vote for world buildering in some. A Khan game without keshiks is as ludicrous as a peaceful Khan game.

^^ Agreed, this is one of the few times I'd say WB would be in order if no horses are around. Maybe if some are very conquerable with Axes or something. Afterall, Khan is aggressive, so no reason not to use some axes if necessary.

Well, since you always get a food in your BFC at your starting location, I'd figure it is N or E. Not W because I see FPs or plain hills or S because of oceans or forests.

So my point being, if you go onto the coast, I think you will lose your food resource that is N or E.

Move your scout 1NE and then 1NW and most likely settle in place.

I agree with going for HBR and Keshiks. The Mighty Khan does not ride around in baskets with wheels! :king:

(PS: Mad, I enjoyed this series as a lurker long before I signed up for CFC forums. Thanks for such an entertaining and informative series! :goodjob:)

Wow, sad to see this be the last one. I don't have much to add to the game itself, just thought I would add my comment and thank Mad for all the rpc's he's done :)

All Good Things...: Rebirth of the Mongols!

Kublai stares across the forrested landscape wondering where to settle. Wonder if has the needed resources to carry on his task. Wondering if he is in fact worthy to fill the shoes of his Grandsire! "I am different" he mutters to himself, "Yet HIS blodd still flows through my veins". The junior Khan glances over at his small group, a band of loyal settlers and a talented scout, and smiles. "A good start we shall have my people."

So we send out scout south onto that hill

KKA0000.jpg

As I feared, we will have 1 coastal tile within our BFC if we settle in place even if it is seafood we lose the bonus from a lighthouse.

So I decide to move the settler in-land a bit

KKA0001.jpg

Well, there is our lone food resource and a nice one at that, Pigs! Fresh Pork for teh Mighty Mongol Horde.

Settleing in place here get's us some floodplains but 1 desert tile, moving east costs us 1 turn. Kublai mutters to just damned settle and get going, and whi am I to argue.

KKA0002.jpg

Karakorum is born!

we meet the first AI

KKA0003.jpg

Pleased to kill you, I mean meet you Hatty!

We soon find (via a goody hut map) that she is pretty close but not too cosy.

KKA0004.jpg

No problem as we are creative just like her!

SO before we go any further, let's discuss what we did early on

Goody Huts: 2 maps, 1 scout, 1 warrior, XP, 360 gold, and a free tech (as you will see later).

Karakorum build: worker/scout/warrior/barracks/archer/settler/archer

Tech order: Animal Husbandry (we are Khan's after all)/Pottery/archery/mining/Bronze Working

We then meet the second AI

KKA0005.jpg

Polly! No sorry, I meant MONTY! You entertain me Monty, perhaps I shall kill you last, PERHAPS!

We soon discover that Monty is to our NE

KKA0006.jpg

Not too close, but close enough to get closer borders.

And we meet the next leader

KKA0007.jpg

SURY! And there's only one of him!

And soon

KKA0008.jpg

Zara! Now, about that DeGaullian League you fouled up!

And then

KKA0009.jpg

Gandhi! I don't think I have had the pleasure of killing you before, here let me introduce you to the Mongol Horde!

And

KKA0010.jpg

Justinian! How goes the Faiths!

And the last of this group

KKA0011.jpg

Toku! Not much of one for living the peaceful life are you!

So enough of thic congeniality parade, what we all want to know is

DOES THE KHAN HAVE HORSES?

To Be Continued............

It's sad that these will end, yes, but there's nothing stopping the rest of us to take up the mantle... I would, if it weren't for my massive laziness.

All Good Thing...: Rebirth of the Mongol!

You bet we have horses

KKA0012.jpg

Note if I had settled in place I could have had them with the second border pop and we are creative! Nevertheless, not a problem.

And about that free tech

KKA0013.jpg

A pretty decent one!

So we slowly build up Karakorum, pastuering the pigs and building cottages on the floodplains. We certainly want ALOT of extra commerce at the beginning. I am also planning to chop/whip libraries when possible.

The the Leader hit Parade starts marching in again

First

KKA0014.jpg

SAL! You know Sal, for being such a religious guy your Jihads have ruined several RPCs. Just want to remind you of that while I am spilling your guts!

And

KKA0015.jpg

HC. Good, good. You appear to be far away! That gives me plenty of time to build tanks to take your @@@ down!

We did an excellent job here of exploring, ah nothing like Mongol scouts! In fact after we finally started looking to the west, we found

KKA0016.jpg

So we actually have three good locations of Horse. We also found

KKA0017.jpg

The Amazon Queen herself! Spoil a man's love life will you, you shall be the FIRST to die!

And we find the queen VERY close

KKA0018.jpg

In fact, one potential city apart!

So I decided I have seen enough and altered eps

KKA0020.jpg

Check up on Monty and Boudica. Hatty is not a military threat.

So we send our first settler off to claim the horses between us and Bodica, and establish an early striking base. However, Boudica is starting to settle towards us

KKA0021.jpg

I wanted the pigs and horse in the small square of the city. Oh well, at least she did not claim the horses

KKA0022.jpg

Beshbalik is Born!

And we meet the last AI of the segment

KKA0023.jpg

Hannibal! How's the culture going?

We finished off Bronze Working, and saved here wanting some advice on teh next tech

KKA0024.jpg

I am thinking writing for open borders (yeah we need some early friends) and those fast creative libraries. The other question is do we opt for Masonry and make a run at the Great Wall (a little tough with 18 leaders out there). Or do we just start on HorseBack Riding for Keshiks

Oh yeah, Bronze Working! Well, do we have access to copper?

KKA0025.jpg

That appears to be the lone source nearby. Not a bad region but I think we certainly need to claim it with the next city before Hatty get's to it. I was hoping to chariot rush Boudica (note her power numbers at the moment) but I would rather get everything I need and a strong early economic core.

Anyway, I think a river city down there to get the copper and sheep in the small square, which also gets us the corn with teh first border pop.

A view of the land so far

KKA0026.jpg

As far as religions, Gandhi founded both Hinduism and Judaism which HC founded Buddhism (Isabella wherever she is MUST be ticked!).

And Karakorum

KKA0027.jpg

A pretty decent production and commercial capital I think. I see running Bureacracy rather than Vassalage or Free Speech, at elast until Nationalism pops up.

So there we have the first segment!

Do we build an economy for a little bit, or do we start the bloodshed ASAP!

Build an economy up a bit so you can research HBR quicker and you can support the war when you do.

Some good commerce city sites around. I would develop economy while teching HBR then attack Boudica and anyone else who starts settling close by.
