Welcome to Expasive Dreams and SG that will strive to show the power that Expansive can have on the early stage of the game and hopefully to show how this can be translated into a win!

Our leader for this jaunt into the world of CIV4 is....

Shaka! At least we know we wont be facing him this game :p

His UB and UU
Spoiler :

His UU is given a double production boost by his AGG trait which is pretty sweet and means that its a cheap way to reduce costs in new cities.

His UU is very fast but still only a spearman. A good pillaging and scouting unit IMO.

Very nice lots of food and lots of production.

The game structure will be a relaxed 24/48 for got it and play. I realise that people have busy lives so I'll be a bit lenient on this but if you can't play please say so we can skip/swap!

In the BC's its 20 turns apiece and in the AD's its 10 turns. Of course if you encounter a more natural stopping point give or take afew turns then feel free to do so.

The save

I just took a breather from my Chinese Game when I was stuck in the middle of a rainforest and yet got first place (Go Expansive!), anyways, I would like to set sights higher: I often lead in noble games and get bored, so, I am ready for a Prince game to check it out! (BTW, if I mess up the next players will have to figure it out!)

Welcome onboard Charles Li!

Do you have an expansive leader preference? I'm strongly leaning towards Shaka as his UB (which is given a production bonus by AGG) and traits mean we can expand quikley and cost effectivally and really live the expansive dream for! Just send a check for £20.....

I notice you mention a game at Prince level. I'd be happy to consider a game at this level but I would prefer a Monarch game as I find that SGs tend to bring the best out in players. Oh yer I forgot to say that I play at epic speed (it seems the most natural and fun to me).

So the new, improved line up

Plenty more space on the line up guys so don't be shy.

Once a leader has been firmly chosen I'll edit the OP with the relevant info.

I'm not always the most reliable player in the SG forum but I'll give it a go if you'll have me. Prince or monarch would be fine by me. I'd prefer to play Sury and his amazing herd of Amphibious Ballista Elephants.

Some ones been reading the strategy forums then....

I'm more than happy to welcome you on board pigswill. Surys CRE trait is great as it does away with one of the most annoying (IMO) early buildings, the monument. He's also a good REXer in my experience.

I would like to join the roster if you'll have me. I'd like to get into succcession games and have lurked excessively without playing any. I usually play Emp and Monarch so I'm comfortable with the difficulty.

Well Sirloin if you want us we'll have you!

Now there is 4 of us we should nail down the details a bit more.

Leader: Sury or Shaka? I'm inclined to Shaka but mainly because I'm playing a Sury game ATM (which goes to show I like him!)
Difficulty: Monarch

Well not many details to nail yet. More of a pinning.

Once we agree a leader I'll roll a start so we can get disscussing are opening moves.

Out of interest are people running Solvers unoffical patch?

Still space for a player or two on ther roster so feel free to join up!

Or maybe go for Shaka and his amazing herd of amphibious war elephants.

Either leader is fine, I would lean towards Shaka. For mods, I just use BUG, but I'll install whatever.

Ok Shaka it is. I'll go role the start now and edit the OP with all the relevent info.

If you guys know anyone that wants in on an SG then hussle them over.

If your lurking feel free to join in.....

Ok save is up!

Lets get those ideas going!

I'd consider settling 1S as we would pick uip the forested plains hill in the first ring and that would mean a much faster worker. Down side is we lose the second corn.

Move the scout in one of the N directions?

I'd either settle in place or consider 1SE to the riverside plainshill. You could move the scout 1SE to get a little more information. Unirrigated corn is meh but at least we already have Ag. I like inland starts on pangea; we'll have lots of expansion options as long as we can handle the pressure of being surrounded.

Regardless of where we settle I'd do worker first and tech mining, lightly contingent on the contents of unrevealed tiles.

I agree techwise on mining probably followed by Bronze or AH depending on whats in the fog.

Worker first without a doubt to hit up the corn and mine that western plains hill ASAP. Probably grow to 3 then chop out a second worker and start to think about whipping/chopping settlers to prevent us getting hemmed into much.

As for setting on the hill I don't see why not. Our production boost on the worker from EXP means the lost turn won't be an issue.

I'd prefer to settle on the river, health is always an issue long term, particularly once our army of workers has chopped down all the forests in the BFC.

Worker first, work forest plains hill once borders pop for bonus hammer. Mining>BW is the obvious path.

TIP, Go agressive for Bronze Working... It is an Ubertech: Giving Slavery, Forest Chopping, Enabling Copper needed for Spearmen, Axemen, and Macemen/Pikemen, AND did I mention whipping? It also reveals copper, which can lead to a strong Whip economy, also, it has hammers for a production city. Did I also mention whipping? Also, it leads to Iron Working for Swordsmen and Metal Casting for converting a Food city into a Hammer city: did I mention whipping or did I forgot about that?

EDIT: Either Settle in place, or, if you feel a bit jittery, go SE on that Plains Hill.

EDIT EDIT: I don't have Sevomod.

EDIT EDIT EDI: I have no Idea how to unzip, take crap out or anything, and have never successfully loaded a mod before.

@ pigswill
If we settle on the hill its still riverside

@ Charles Li
Its BUG 3.6. If you do to there site you can download an .exe file that does all the hard work for you. Its really very good.

Does anyone know/remember if the hammers are rounded up? i.e. if we're building a worker and have 4 base hammers we would get 6 hammers with our EXP bonus, however if we have 5 base hammers do we get 6 or 7 hammers? Same question applies to whipping - would the worker be 2 pop whipped at 22 or 23 hammers?

I guess I should just try it in world builder and see.

I'll try to get my set done this evening then if we're all happy with settling 1SE.

Always move the scout/warrior before deciding on city placement.

ok so I'll move the scout. I'd go for 1SE to see what we might have if we settled 1SE.

Unless there is a better suggestion such as 1SW to see what we would lose.....

I believe extra hammers from expansive (or anything else) are rounded down, i.e. 4 base -> 5 after bonus; 5 base -> 6 after bonus; 7 -> 8 after bonus. So you will get the bonus if you can get 4h raw and shouldn't sacrifice to substitute food for hammers beyond that. It isn't possible to get 8h building your first worker (6 max under normal map conditions being very lucky).

So settling on the plains hill or 1S will both net an extra hammer, as both can work the 3h plains/forest/hill on turn 1. Personally, I wouldn't sacrifice the riverside corn for a worker 2-3 turns earlier (you lose a turn moving on the hill) but that's just my intuition.
