Do you wish Civilization V ?

Since I'm satisfied with Civ IV, I want Civ V later so that it has more features!!!!!!!! :p

I voted later, because Civ 4 is good now, and BtS is just about to come out for Mac, and there are so many ideas and suggestions still being developed that would be beneficial for the game, that would not be able to be included if the game was released now. But definitely, within two years would be brilliant.

civ 5 is my most anticipated game. ive been playing civ4bts a lot and really want a brand new version with tons of new stuff and differences. i want civ 5 asap.

Have you tried any Civ4 mods?

Looks like you're ready for Rise of Mankind:goodjob: I voted for later.

Has to be later - Civ 4 is still good and enough good is still coming out of it to make it thoroughly replayable - depending on peoples obsessions, I would say the game has a good 2-4 years where you can try so many different options and find new funs ways to play the game.

Much of the current game wouldn't require a lot of amendments in any case, although I would like to see a more 'human like' ai which responds to the fact you are trying to win and a few other tweaks (like would wish to see ai offer say a tech for war like it does with itself and you can never offer that, and generally an ai overhaul - 100 tanks vs 100 tanks if you get first go they are all on 1 square artillery and boom!) but the main gameplay aspect is terrific and doesn't really get tiresome so until they can develop a better ai which wont be easy I see no real need for a Civ 5 at current - give the developers time and I'm sure they'll create another epic.

I think they should start working on it now. Absolutley.

It will take a few years - hopefully (we don't want a rush job), so now is the time to start.

The sooner it's out, the sooner the modders are going to be able to play with it. The thing with the last two editions of civ is that it's the mods that really make the game, at least for me, and it takes another few years for the modding to really mature. So - if they start work on it now - I can look forward to full enjoyment in about 5 years or so. Civ 4 was released more than 4 years ago, and it was probably 6 years ago or so that development began, and it's only in the last year that the game has really reached its potential (for me at least).

I want them to take their time with the next release. I don't want a rush job, pushed out the door as fast as possible. I want them to experiment with different things so that when it's released, it isn't just a previous incarnation of civ with a new engine and graphics but has some new features to justify a new edition. Things that can't be done with mods in civ4 - like, say, a hex grid, or a throne room that has game functions, or other stuff.

So now is the time to start. They're looking at threads like this and deciding if they should start work on civ5 now or wait ... if you tell them to wait, we could be waiting a good long while before they even start (let alone release).

what is rise of mankind? what are some good mods do u have links? do u know of a good giant earth mod with most of the civs? earth maps are my favorite. and im sure the mods are great but i still cant wait for civ 5, it could be a whole new more advanced way to play. i hope they increase micromanagement skills rather than decrease.

I voted "now" because I can't stand the graphics in Civ 4. 1) they slow down the game too much and 2) they aren't that great looking IMO. :p

You should check out the modpacks forum:

Civilization4 Modpacks Forum

Also alot of folks here have recommended Rise of Mankind. It's a very popular mod, over 100,000 downloads. It is a compilation mod with dozens of new leaders and techs, just alot more stuff in general, if that's what you're looking for.

For a very coherent and concept driven mod, which follows the format of what would likely be released commercially if firaxis were to release a new expansion pack, you should check out Legends of Revolution. I've taken great care to use models with decent poly size, and every unit has it's own unique button, it has an installer, and overall the flow is like what you experience from Vanilla civ to Beyond the Sword, it is not just more stuff, it is done and presented concisely and professionaly. Hopefully someone will come along to attest to that, as I'm the creator of the mod, and my word and opinion is obviously biased.

Overall though, you should really check out the modpack forums in general, as there are many great mods out there, with unique flavors that you may find have exactly what you are looking for.

just got rise of mankind. its pretty awesome. better than i thought. my first map was gigantic with 50 players but each turn took too long. too bad as that was always what i wanted. this is a good computer but u must need really good ones for the big stuff. but it will still be awesome playing regular games with the new tech tree and buildings. im gonna use mansa musa of siam. financial scientific with a 40 research boost library. should help since i wont know what im doing on the new tech tree. although i still really want civ 5, to see how they reenvision the civs and empires and gameplay. the mods are great but i think civ 5 will really be something new.

I say Now due to the fact we have stronger computers and game play will be faster. Grapics can be done easier due to higher grapics cards like a single 8800gtx. Then Intergrate the turn base with 4 cpus. Time of caculations will be faster so a huge game might take a few sec each turn.

But you realize - that is what they will focus on in the next version of the game - right?

It will be "prettier" (they really thought the figure leader heads would go over big, so I would expect them to focus on more of those types of graphics) and slower and little to no improvement in the AI?

:crazyeye:

The trains remake... the pirates remake... what did they have in common?

"Never" Why? The next version will have even higher poly count animated graphics ("Zoom in and see your Rifleman picking his nose!" "Watch the ancient Romans queue up at the public latrine!") while still making the game harder but not deeper as you move up in difficulty. Simply increasing the advantages given the AI as you move up just makes it necessary to do more micromanaging and to memorize more minutia and at some point that just becomes tedious. It doesn't make sense to me that the tech tree is that same at Settler as it is at Deity. For one thing, it bewilders new players and for another it leaves you with nothing to look forward to. The same goes for victory conditions. Leaving the current ones in place at lower levels is okay but, it would be nice to have others (Spiritual? Ecology?) become available, along with the new techs for them, as you move up. The same should apply to Wonders for the same reasons.
If Civ 5 ever appears it will tout the number of new buildings, the 'enhanced' graphics, new units, new Civs, bigger maps, etc., while I (Having at long last opted out of the CPU, memory, graphics card arms race) will probably never play it.

Civ 5, much later!!!! 2-5 Years would be ok with me, that's enough time for a decent leap in graphics, programming and some well thought-out changes and additions to the game. Plus it will give us buyers some time to wait to upgrade computers to deal with the leap in system requirements. I have an absolute BEAST of a computer, and it still slows wayyyyyy down late date.

Not to mention, most of us hear are still learning how to play Civ 4 well enough!!!!
