Ok, I signed us up for something that's probably a bit over our heads but I figured could be a lot of fun. Basically 10-min per move vote games that will could go anywhere from 8-20 hours total (perhaps less, hopefully not more but possibly

).

Full Info Here

The games can be played anytime on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and will go until they are finished obviously. One game at a time per weekend & we start next weekend (vs. who is displayed on the schedule in the link).

As team captain I will do my best to be online during the games & take breaks when I'm sure at least one other teammate is covering the match.

Like with a regular correspondence game if you leave a vote chess game open & it becomes your move the game should flash "IT'S YOUR MOVE" on your browser tab. It will be our move every 20 minutes. As long as we get at least one vote per move we won't lose on time.

Obviously the quality of these games won't be top, ultimate, cream-of-the-crop, premium but, like blitz chess, they will hopefully be fun. :)

Not much time to discuss so for anyone wanting to discuss an idea might be to create a private-chat in Live Chess where anyone online who wants to participate can do so there.

I don't expect anyone else to be as wild about this as me, nor to keep their game-window open all day one day of your precious weekend but drive-by voters (who give their moves at least a minute or two think & ideally consult with others via chat) are welcome.

If anyone has any interest in this this is the thread to talk about it. If anyone thinks this is a crazy idea, I understand. However I don't think it's anymore nutty than World of Warcraft marathons or hikes up Mount Everest. It will be fun one way or another I'm hoping. :)

Our first opponent next weekend will be the Chess Nuts

I'm out! I usually work nights on one day of the weekend, and have the other off.

With my postcount there is no pretending. :(
I mostly just post here, with the ocassional (sp?) post in the Off-Topic area. It keeps my post count down low, and my time in RL high. ;)

Looks cool, I'll definatley look in for a couple of moves.

Enemy looks tough though, they have nearly 250 members which is quite an advantage in this setup.

I contacted their group leader about starting Friday at 11AM EST (7PM GMT I think). This way the game would go (hopefully until just around midnight or 1AM Fri night/Sat morn, maybe a little longer).

If anyone sees either an amazing brilliancy or a horrible blunder we could fall into please post about it. I will check the text before I vote if I can.

Ok, I talked with chess_kebabs (leader of the Nuts :D) and we're agreed to start at 11AM EST on Saturday (4PM GMT Saturday).

Anyone can join in @ any time, I just ask try to read the comments before moving.

(GMT)

5PM (if we're white, otherwise 5:10) - Move 1
5:20 (or 5:30) - Move 2
6 or 6:10 - Move 4
7 or 7:10 - Move 7
8 or 8:10 - Move 10

A 30 move game will go 10 hours, 45 moves will take 15 hours. I may not be able to be online all the time (though I will have a pretty free Saturday) so the more regular voters we have the better (though I will do my best to cover every move if I can).

Hope to have a fun one.

I'd like to play e4 as white & Sicilian (with 2. Nc6 against almost any 2nd move except 2. f4 or 2. d4 in which case we should play 2. ... d5 or 2. cxd respectively) as black vs. e4 (1. ... e5 vs. c4, 1. .... d5 vs. 1. Nf3 or 1. d4). Not to try to dominate the opening but since I may be the only player on board I'd like to reach positions I have some familiarity/comfort with. :)

OK, that's 8am my time. I might be able to be there for part of it, depends on what my wife and kids spring on me at the last minute. ;)

Next weekend is July 4th. Will the league be skipping that week? Not so much an issue if international players are available, but US folks may be at cookouts or watching fireworks that evening. :D

4pm GMT should be around midnight in my area. I may or may not be able to go online, since I'm moving out of campus tomorrow to my uncle's house ( I don't know yet if he has internet connection, he lives alone). Sorry team.

I'm sorry you won't be on board too. You're one of NP's brightest stars!

I should change the name to "Sashie's People" for a day. :D

Looks like we won't (be skipping it). They consider the "weekend" any day from Fri-Sun (which actually extends from Thurs-Mon if you consider all the time zones) so we should find a way to squeeze in the game (just bring your laptop to the fireworks :crazyeye: ).

I'll be working at that time. Sorry, but it looks like I'm out this time.

I voted in a move. Looks like I can play for a little bit, but I may not, due to my poor record.

We're happy to have you WE. If you're not 100% sure on a move just ask someone.

I've been away doing some gardening work & will be back out to do more this afternoon but I will try to vote in most of the moves. Thanks to DaveShack & nicetoall for holding down the fort!
