i play a lot of civ and since finding the maps on the below link, earth 18 type maps with new world left open, i play them almost exclusively. i eventually made a slightly different version of my own, with korea and ethiopia instead of arabia, and holy rome instead of germany, darius instead of cyrus, and a resource or terrain change here and there but not much, noticeably mansa musa starts with 2 gold in his capital. they're at the link below, at the bottom of the forum zip file not rar. i believe they are quite popular earth 18 maps, here with no turn counter for single player.

so i play my earth 18 map all the time, these days on immortal, a fun challenge. however with liz of england its such a good team and i have a good strategy so even immortal is almost easy. so im going for my first deity win. this should be easier than a random map, since i have won this before on immortal and have a strategy planned. however it is still 18 players and no tech trading is on. i think i can win i just want to find out. england is unique because u can get by with barely using military if you follow my strategy. this game with england is my favorite way to play. so i wanted to show u a cool way to play if you can start out with such a good spot and team. even deity should be possible. i'll try to do a kind of story but im not as good as that. but some of you might be interested in how im going to try and win deity and possibly never take over a city. i'll tell u before hand, what i do is settle two cities in england, one in ireland, one in iceland, then beeline astronomy and grab as much new world as i can before anyone else. its a fun way to play and u never really need military. so here i go.

btw, the map im playing here, the one i made, i dont know how to share and is not at that link, but the ones i made it from which are basically the exact same are there.

also, the official rules. earth 18 type map new world open, deity difficulty, marathon speed, no tech trading, no vassal states, no huts, random personalities, next war mod.

it is a dark time for the celts. by the end of the ancient wars, they have been driven completely out of mainland europe. their old knowledge of fishing helped them navigate the shallow seas to settle what would become known as england and ireland. their great leaders, brennus and boudica, were killed at the end of the wars. now, the fiery red headed boudica's sister, the fiery redhead elizabeth, is the leader of their people. but where boudica was aggressive and charismatic, liz is more peaceful and intellectual. the celts were known as perhaps the civ closest to nature, at home in the trees and wild with druid class and so on. the celts worked together well, still fighting, but also very close. now the young liz comes into her own. she has the love of her people, as she is known for attracting great people into her circle, and has a good team of advisors. but she is untested. in the year 4000 bc, she goes to one of her peoples prophets for guidance. the wizard merlin has a plan for her and her people. build her new capital settlement to the north, a more recluded area, which is close to manageable stone, which he says we will need for a great monument. liz says why must we build such a strange monument? and merlin says that if we build it one day a great man will appear to help our people. trusting the wizard, yet still a bit doubtful, liz sets north with her people.

liz settles her capital in the north, a fine place with ample production and food and resources. first thing is obvious, begin fishing the seas and bringing in lots of food for the people. merlin says to study our mystic connections with nature in order to understand what we must build.

we got out boats and then a worker to improve the land. our people had an old knowledge of mining and began production right away. merlin told us to study the ways of crafting rocks together to help us build a superb monument. liz thought surely there must be better things in the world to study, yet still went along with the wizards plan for now. after all, he had always been known as greatly wise amongst his people. liz thought about the name of her new capital, england. named after a small village she had been fond of as a child, in the countryside. she's glad she disagreed with the wizard on that one. merlinville just didn't have a good ring to it.

we hear rumors of new religions being founded far away. for now liz and her people will keep their celtish druid ways.

as our workers begin building camps, our people complete their great monument called stonehenge. in the centuries to come it will prove to be a great source of power for the mystical celts. we begin an expedition to build a large city on the south coast. we;re researching something called bronze working, which merlin says will be essential aquiring lumber for the great buildings we shall soon construct. liz wonders why merlin insists on spending time building great buildings. some of the land from the old wars in europe was still unsettled, surely we could have extended our culture? but merlin says it will be wise for our people to keep to the islands for a long time. other countries would have much more trouble invading us over sea. merlin is known as somewhat a prophet, and claims to have visions of the future. liz knows he keeps much from her, but she doesn't plan on being in the dark for long.

we come into contact with a powerful new european state, the romans. they are the center of the new religion which is already spreading around the world, buddhism. merlin says it would be wise to become friendly and even convert to buddhism when the time comes so that caesar will be an ally.

we form a new southern settlement called london. our people are blessed with a rich land and bountiful seas. more workers are called from london to help with the lumber cutting in the north.

we're getting plenty of production on our great new project, although it is an amazing undertaking, centuries in the making. merlin says once its done our city will grow to even greater size and power. our excellent stone masons are the key to its design. and we're about to bring in plenty of lumber for our next project, which merlin says we must research sailing to build.

we take some time to build a quick work boat. this will be sent to london to help speed production of the settler being built there.
