New civ suggestion for Civ V

Hello fans,

(if needed move this thread in the right place)

Despite I'm new to this forum, I've been a Civ fan from the start. After all those years I am a little disappointed from the fact that my own civilization was never implemented in the original game.
As you can see for yourself in the links below our civilization as a separate state has been around from more than 1300 years, not mentioning the great proto-bulgarians before that.

We are a barbarian nation indeed: every time we destroyed a Byzantine army, the imperial historians wrote the barbarians did it!

How come then we came to these lands with our own religion, culture and technology?
We immediately made peace with the local tribes and using force and diplomacy we established the 1-st Bulgarian Empire! We never killed local tribes like the Brits did in America, and like the US did latter on...Are we barbaric?
We saved our jews during WWII ... are we barbaric?

Bulgars / Bulgarians would make an excellent new civilization. Our ancient history is very rich. Also, Civ has always been among the most popular games in Bulgaria.

What I mean was that there's a barbaric nation in Civ called the Bulgars. Anyways, let's say that your civilization got in. What would be your UU and UB? I've read what you wrote about the heavy cavalry and the fortresses but what kinda special effects would they have?

Bulgaria should be part of the EU. Consolidation of the English, French, Spanish, Germans, Romans, Greeks....etc. So basically a Bulgarian player could control London, Paris, Madrid & Berlin in a cultural border of the EU.

Brussels is currently one of the main capitals of the EU and I think a new capital should be created for the rest of world blocks like NAFTA, the African Union, the Arab League, ASEAN....etc.

Completely agree to the idea! Why should for instance small non-prosperous and negligible tribes in the ass of africa be taken into account?! Should i also remind that there was a medievil time when there were only three empires in europe where as everything else was considered unimportant - Byzantium, The Franks and Bulgaria?! And most importantly bulgarians have their own culture, customs, language ... it's just a whole different and diverse nation! I don't see what would cost the devs to bring a new country to the stage?!

OKAY! We get it; there's no reason for Bulgaria not to be in it with its rich culture and history. Just answer my question.

Bulgaria has been in EU since 2007 . Or are you talking about a Earth-map with a civ called EU?

With a random map setting, most of the European Civilizations will be placed in close proximity to each other. For the Earth Map, I am discussing a new game concept in Civ5 where the EU would emerge with a new capital city.

I don't think Bulgaria is one of the 30 most important civilizations of all time, so it should not be in vanilla civV. There is however room for an Central/Eastern European nation, but Poland, Austria, Hungary and Serbia are also important civilizations.

Well, sharing power with your neighbor seems to be the direction most countries in the world are heading towards. Look at the G8, the permanent members of UN security Council, and the EU.

Anyway, back on topic. I think the Civilization franchise has the amount of civilizations it needs. Furthermore, Bulgaria isnt really much different from all the other European countries left out.

It would be easier to justify Australia, as there isnt any nations represented down there on the map. Europe is swamped as it is. (If you play earth maps, that is.)

I know but this isn't the real world; this is Civ 4/5. Yes, I could imagine joining some kind of Union EU but NOT if I had to merge with all of the other European into one civ.

Well I am not huge fan of this game, but I really think that not adding Bulgaria on the map/game as this is in other games like Medieval: Total war is a big, big mistake.

Bulgaria is the coutry that spread Cyrillic alphabet, this is not a small reason. All the slavs nations use this alphabet for writing and reading. This can be used in tge game as new technology or advancement "Inventing Cyrillic alphabet + 1 moral to all armies" ot something like that. Bugarians can be able to build stronger fortresses more earlier that other nations. This can be new technology too "Stronger walls + 1 to defense of the city walls" and Bulgarina will have it at the very beginning of the game. Other nations will hav eto invent it and only after a certain period or age. For the bulgarian armies. Well the most powerfull and stong part of the army was the cavalry, the bulgars are very like nomads in their earlier period. So there can be a light cavalry with good attack and weak defense if caught in a narrow place. With some special ability like trowing lasso. I know that this sound weird, but that was on of the reasons the Bulgars defeated crusaders. They took advantage over the heavy knights by making the battle in such manner that did not allowed the knight to fight face to face with bulgars. The used long hooks and lassos to dismount the knights and after that the knight was an easy target to fight with. Just look at the real history in the early medieval. The Byzantine Empire often was paying trubute to the Bulgars, many of the Bulgar neighbours feared this nations. After all this is a country with more than 13 centuries history even if we do not consider that Bulgars are one really old nation. Just take a look at the history of the current country Bulgaria. This country was a key factor on the East Europe as was the Byzantine Empire, why it does not appear in the game. Only cause the Turks overcome and rules this nations for 500 years and even after that the Bulgarians still kept their language, religion and nation is not good enough reason to forget about this country.

OK for UU I will suggest Arcani warrior (replacing the pikeman) with a 150% bonus against mounted units.
- A weapon called arkani was used by the Bulgarians in this battle for Marcellae: the arkani consisted of a long pole with an attachment similar to a lasso at one end. It was an excellent weapon against cavalry as the rider could easily be pulled out of the saddle by a skilled warrior, armed with the arkani.

Other most commonly suggested by others will be the Heavy Horse Archer replacing the Horse Archer, with more Hit points. After all we fought for this land mainly with horses...

For UB I will suggest a replacement for the Wall. Something like +25% defence when fighting on any city square...
