A question for those that play in multiplayer

Have you tried 3.19 with ROM 2.7? How has it worked out for you? Will it run well with Revolutions on? Any settings that cause problems? We're considering making the move soon, so I'd really appreciate any advice and experiences you've had with the latest version. Thanks!

Also, how do you set it up so that you can have a 3.17 version of BTS and a 3.19? I think someone mentioned that earlier, it would be helpful for testing if we could do that.

I have. You can play with Rev, Barbcities... all the options, just fine. (,Make sure you enable the settler fix.) The only thing, every time a revolution popup appears, you have to make every player pick the same option, because your rev popups appear for all the players. Otherwise you get an OOS error.

I thought the pop-up problem was fixed a while back? In test games of ROM 2.6 the revolution wasn't a pop-up anymore, but some sort of menu, if I remember correctly. We've been playing 2.53, because it is quite stable and that is the only problem really with it. Did they revert to the old way of doing it on 2.7? Now I'm confused!

However, if that is the only problem, we're certainly used to both of those from our current version of the mod and deal with it fine. (Just don't let your cities revolt!)

Apart from the OOS when not all players select the same option in a revolution popup, if the player chooses to bribe the city the amount of gold deducted is (value x number of players). So until Revolution has changed this, me and my buddies still play without Revolution and every version of RoM was equally stable, from 2.5x, 2.6x to 2.7.

When I try a multiplayer game, I get the OOS error right from the beginning, even with all (visible) RevDCM options disabled, is that due to the settler thingie or something completely different?

If the Revolution pop-up hasn't changed, you can bribe your cities from the city screen and the OOS from that was pretty well fixed quite some time ago (I think it goes OOS for a moment or a turn and fixes itself). Although we play with Revolutions on, we turned down the factor a bit so the AI doesn't implode so quickly and rarely see a revolt in our cities. It just helps to keep us balanced as we play. If there is a pop-up, we are agreed to just say "NO" and the poor player with a revolution has to deal with it... hehe

Thanks for the responses.

The settler thingie is for the later game, when you change to a different kind of settler that builds a city with buildings in it already, the basic settler is fine.

Not sure what you problem can be, you may have to be sure all your installations are the same and your cache's cleared before you start. Sometimes when we do get recurring OOS problems we restart all the clients and clear all the cache's and it helps a lot. To clear your cache just load the client holding down your space bar - it gets rid of information saved from other games that speed up loading but might confuse the game when you load a new game. That's about all I know to help you there.

Ok, we did the switch and started our first game last night. Went great, though after 3-4 hours, I had a CTD and we opted to quit for the night. I'm hoping that won't be a common occurrence (it happens every so often with any of the versions, so if it isn't regular, I'm not going to be concerned).

Now all I have to do is figure out how to stay alive in the middle of a huge Lakes Map, surrounded by barbarians and AI. ACK!

I hope some of you test now how Colonist and Pioneer works in multiplayer mode in v2.71 (I tried to fix OOS problem with them). If you test it, do not turn on RoM_Multiplayer fix (it's included just in case those units don't yet work correctly...)

Well, I'm expecting we'll start a 2.71 game tonight, but who knows how long it will take us to be ready to build the advanced colonists and pioneers? :) Thanks for your work there though!

It's built into the 2.71 mod supposedly, haven't gotten that far in a game yet to know. :)

Last night we started a game with 2.71 (some modmods added) and turned off the random events and the revolutions, barb civs are on. We played with 7 players for several hours with NO OOS. I'm suspecting that the random events (which we've always had on before) are a main culprit in the OOS problems. I miss them, but not enough to go back to having to reload my game a few times a night! I'll let you all know if this continues to work for us.

Interesting! I've been unable to get any MP games working with my usual crowd as we always get OOS as soon as the game starts. I'll certainly be keen to try turning off random events and see what happens. Thanks Carwyn.

We did end up OOS at the end of the night tonight - there was a major war started so I assume something military. That's two good nights with one OOS, not bad. We are running some modmods now (I don't even know which ones! lol) and some custom modding to rebalance a few things, like civics. We'll see how that turns out. At the moment the AI have no trade going at all, so we need to deal with that! They are also all running slavery way too far into the game. Not so good.
