The 1st game was almost half years ago with 3.17 patch.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=312128

Here's the 2nd challenge for players who are bored with cheesy win in their level -- to taste the feeling of being DOWed by aggressive AIs in early stage and probably under the situation of risking of being DOWed in the whole game. To make it more popular, I also attached the WB save so that players can choose the level they are confident with.

Map : Pangaea
AIs: name your most unwanted neighbors, actually the same as the 1st game.
Leader: Charlemagne--a crappy leader in normal games ( Have to be protective for deity level )
Victory condition: Domination and Diplomacy are disabled. I hope to see a beautiful conquest ending.:) The other choices are reserved for AIs.
All the other settings are default.

Check point suggestion: you get 1st DOW, 1AD, 1000AD, 1500AD, to End.

And the start:

Very powerful, isn't it?:D You have gold in sight. I hope this map is winnable.

2 small tips
Spoiler :

1. You are the only one start with Mys, so the chance you can get an early religion is very high. --Edit: forgot that there's Monty, so you have ~50% chance.
2. All AIs are naturally pleased with each other due to warmonger respect. Therefore, always be prepared to be DOWed if you play Emperor+, your border cities should be on hill sites if possible and don't even try to Rexing without sufficient defense.

Edit:
This game is an open challenge to all levels, the difficulty of the game is generally more than one level harder. Myself have failed over 90% of this setting without a powerful start.

Save is with 3.19 patch. Thanks to Pauliskhan's remind of dual installation.

And finally, enjoy!:)

At least this is not Deity Always War

Capital looks food poor. I d move scout 1SE. Can prob get away of settling capital on flat land. Probably should settle 1E or 1N.

I'd probably move the capital 1E. This way you get the gold, any most likely any food resource that you would already have in the fog to the east. Added to that, you might spawn horses on one of those plain squares, and if you move 1E, you'll still have them all in your BFC.

Or you could move 1N, risk losing food if it's on the lower fog tiles (which you'll know, if you move your scout). Hills are good for the defense, and plus you'll get an extra one to make up for the one you lost. Early religion sounds fun in this game.

Double-check the leader, Duckweed, one of them starts off with Mysticism.

Spoiler :

I settle 1NE which unlocked Cows, Corn and Gold, while on a river, nice! This map looks very winnable, as you have lots of happiness and tons of good resources like gold, marble and stone. I put up a blocker city to block off Alex then put another one up at the Rice/Gold/Stone site to block off Ragnar and Monty. I have room for 2-3 more cities in the back, but I'm already at war. Monty planted a city very close to my borders so I declared (Ragnar was already at war with him, so was Shaka) and burned the city down. So far Gilly, Shaka, Alex and I are all Buddhist but we're still probably going to get war dec'd on by Ragnar or Alex soon. We got lucky and revealed AH from a hut, and it turns out we have horses just outside the BFC, so barbs were not a problem at all. My cottages are just starting to mature, but I still feel like I'm screwed. All the AIs have IW while I'm just teching Writing, and I'll need Fishing! Anyways, I'd like to see a better player do well on this game, as the map is nice, but the opponents aren't.

I have never thought myself have even a little chance to win Deity Always War, especially in Pangaea map. Mission impossible. I think it would be amazing to see even a win on Immortal always war in Pangaea map.:)

And don't worry about the food, I regenerated a few times to get a powerful start. We need it in such a brutal environment.

You're right, I forgot there's Monty in the club. But you'll have 50% chance to get a religion.

Spoiler :

Keep going, you will catch up with the gold in BFC.

Thanks for offering a challenge! :)

I promise that I will try AND FINISH this one ... I can never finish a single player game for the life of me but I will put a big sheet of paper over my computer saying "do this game" to remind me. I'll start on the 23rd though since I'll be away.

I am going to aim to be the first to declare war, hopefully there's a weak AI nearby (haven't checked the map yet).

These games are always great to watch! :) And maybe, just maybe, one of these days...;)

Funny things happen when there are no real researchers around: (small spoiler)

Spoiler :

Monty beelined CoL and took Philosophy with Oracle on T72. Then he adopted Pacifism, with Judaism still unclaimed. Now, is that sick or what? :hammer2:

Still no DoWs, but Alex will inevitably attack since he's Cautious at me and Pleased with others and he finally hooked up metals. Currently building up some troops to tackle him...

I beelined Alpha instead of Aesthetics, hoping for some war bribery and to delay Aesthetics trading to protect marble wonders. Shaka and Monty beat me to it tough, but I still got some trades done (BW, Masnonry, IW, Pottery). No war bribery, but some gifts got Ragnar to Pleased...Scouting with chariots was useful to see that Alex is lagging with metal hookup and to determine land targets, Monty should go after Ragnar instead of me...

3 cities so far, marble connected but I missed the stone spot to Ragnar. I'll have room for 6 cities, but the lack of food is really disturbing. No cottages for this game, capital will be a GL+ NE GP farm...asuming I live that long. :)

It will be interesting to see how the best players handle this game, cool setup!

I tried the game, it is a lot of fun. Very brutal indeed, but still much enjoyment.

Spoiler :

It looks this game is all about keeping everyone at war, while staying out/fake war to get tech lead, then stomp everyone? Only problem with that idea is gilga is a bit of a techer no? I just guess after you vassaled the others you zerg gilga with your minions :P

I have never thought myself have even a little chance to win Deity Always War, especially in Pangaea map.
HC w/ very, very good BFC can possibly do that, I think Darius w/ AH from hut and of course horse in BFC... and of course marathon.
Still, that would more luck than anything.

This will be very interesting to watch...game over for me. A short story to tell the diplomatic nightmare:

Spoiler :
As expected, Alex soon entered war mode and attacked. I had defenses ready so it wasn't a big problem. I managed to avoid other wars with city placement chosen to minimize land contact, keeping other civs before me in the war routine. Very soon everybody was at war, with me only fighting Alex. However, 10 turns for a peace treaty is an eternity. They all entered WHEOOHRN again in just a few turns! Naturally, due to warmonger respect I was everybodies second best target and they all decided to go against me except Gilgamesh. I quit when Ragnar's and Shaka's SoDs arrived, knowing that Monty and Khan are going for me as well. Hordes of war elephants, horse archers, cats and other stuff as well... On the bright side, when Shaka attacked Gilga gifted me Horseback riding.

In hindsight, maybe I should have adopted Buddhism to get more of them to Pleased. Monty grabbed most religions and the world was polarized. However, that would have caused a certain war with Hindu Shaka and Monty along with Alex so I don't really now...I definitely didn't expect them to enter a second war immediately after the peace treaty. It all happened in just a few turns, total disaster...

It seems to me that one has to be ready to fight two or three civs very early at the same time on this map, still keeping tech parity. With war elephants and cats around T90 or so, that's a big problem...

My first attempt failed, multi-wars suck.

Spoiler :

Tried again, this time I skipped religion. Everyone except Mongols and the Sumers were Hindu, so Diplo was better, but still kept getting declared on at please (thankfully this time I built up my army). I quit the game later on though, as I got beat to Lib when I was teching Education (had everything else more or less backfilled, I just didn't get a sufficient GP farm so bulbing Education OR Paper wasn't an option, sadly) and decided I had enough. Deity AI are too hard for me at the moment :S

If you can spend part of the time you spend on a gigantic game, you'll finish a couple of standard game.;) and welcome to the challenge.:)

That's the 1st time I have ever seen an AI get Philosophy that early:crazyeye:, I hope I am the one.

@Yamps & Kadazzle

Don't be depressed, myself have failed over 90% of this setting without a powerful start. The major obstacle of this setting is the constant DOWs from those war psychos before you can bump them to friendly or keep them busy fighting together. The difficulty of this game at immortal level beats a gentle deity game. I also wish to see this game to be won in other levels.

HC w/ very, very good BFC can possibly do that, I think Darius w/ AH from hut and of course horse in BFC... and of course marathon.
Still, that would more luck than anything.

Without lots of reloadings, you can only suppress at most 2 or 3 AIs and the rest AIs will swarm you with units that you UU can not handle with. Persian and Egypt have better chance.

No depression, but some frustration...;)

I know my diplo game very well, but peace treaties ruined everything. They all immediately entered wheoohrn and chose the second best war target while they were at peace with the primary target. It all happened at the same time and I got dogpiled by 5 civs! :cringe:

I think I'll try a normal Pangea Deity again, diplo is much easier to handle with different peace weights.

Charly, HRE, is my favorit leader for playing on crowded maps (at least on pangea). His traits and starting techs allow some very funny and different strats, backed by a very powerfull UB.

1. You start with a scout, which is great for huts
2. You have a decent chance on a religion
3. Settle on a plains hill, work another 2 hammers tile, do a settler first start while teching on a reli. You will be surprised how incredible fast you will have your settler out (about 15 turns), Go warrior or archer then worker in in your second city, do another settler in cap immediately after the first one is done, same build in 3rd city then in second, warrior/archer in capital after settlers... ...you will have 3 cities BEFORE barbs enter your territory any you very likely will be even on deity among the fastest civs to have 3 cities (around turn 33):)

Settle these cities aggessively towards the AI, pref. on hills and stuff some archers in, you should do fine, also power-wise. Use your advantage and try and keep the lead in expansion. Crawl somehow towards CoL with rathauses and you are fine
