This module reverts RoM's ships and ocean travel back to they way in 2.7. Ships are again restricted to the coast. I made this for myself, but I figured others might want it.

To Install:
Place the folder inside of Modules. (Or any folder in the modules folders, it doesn't matter)
Add the MLF entry. (See sticked tutorial on this forum)

It seems like this minimod will really help out people who play with events disabled, as there is no prevention in the game to stop ships from sailing around the world with events off otherwise. Thanks for uploading!

Does this also apply to the Caravel? I would always vie for sending one out to explore the seas once I was able build them, but not if this changes that privilege.

It applies for all units unlocked before Astronomy, so yes, the caravel is limited to coast only.

However, I'm not sure why you would want to explore with it, considering that it would sink in the ocean because of random events.

But, If you really really want it to be able to travel in the sea, it is a rather trivial matter to edit this file to allow that. Just delete the section in the XML that is for the caravel.

<cough cough> um, caravels weren't restricted to coasts in 2.7.

As soon as I get caravels they are always sent to circumnavigate the map. I've done this in every version of RoM. They don't sink from random events. Galleys, War galleys, triremes and Seige Tris will though.

Okay, I'll change them in my next update...er patch. I guess it's going to be the same thing...

Anyways, every ship can enter the ocean once you have astronomy, so that's still the same.

I beg to differ, I just lost 2 Caravels due to those "random" events.

Afforess just informed me that yes, it does work with 2.8.

Caravels should be sea going units, though. They were really the first true ocean capable vessels and dominated shipping in the 1200-1400s (maybe 1300s-1400s, my memory is getting flawed with age).

Afforess, I have a suggestion. Since Zappara did say that chace for sinking do reduce as techs progress, that you modify Seafaring to allow caravel and its UU counterparts to go into oceans and risk themselves then.

You guys know the download on the OP is out of date, correct? It will work with 2.8, but I changed it a long time ago so that caravels could go on the ocean, in my installer version.

Cool. Had not advanced far enough to notice that yet.
Thanks.
