Welcome to the development forum for the Civilization IV Colonization Westward Ho mod!

This mod is, as the title of this forum suggests, a Wild West Colonization mod. The idea was first proposed by cfkane in this thread, and Flintlock1415 took over the project and released the first version in the beginning of July so someone else could take over after he became too busy. I took over, and released the second version in the end of July.

Pretty much everything is up for discussion, and there are plenty of potential things to discuss, which is why we felt creating a forum to discuss them was a good idea. So... if you have an idea, or complaint, or request, or opinion, don't hesitate to post here or open a thread! We need a lot of help, just from coming up with ideas to contributing artwork or text. Thanks to anyone who helps out or offers feedback or criticism.

Some useful links:

The Ideas Thread: The precursor to this forum, many things have been discussed there. Don't post there, because anything that would be brought up in that thread should now be brought up here, but it's a useful reference for ideas people have come up with in the past.

Main Mod Thread: This thread will still be used, and it's what people are most likely to see (unless you're one of the weird people who first look at mods with subforums, like I am). Feel free to post there or here.

The WePlayCiv Thread: Since the mod is hosted on WPC, it makes sense for there to be a forum thread there as well. I'll focus on this forum and CFC's mod thread, but the WPC one will also be used.

Download Thread: I could link straight to the download pages, but this thread does it for me. It also has some screenshots, install directions, credits, and a changelog for the latest patch. You'll always find the latest version here.

Bug Thread: If you find a bug or error, please post it here. That thread has guidelines for how to report a bug and also a list of already reported/solved bugs, so reference that first before reporting a bug.

Timeline:

Below is a rough timeline of how the v0.4 to v1.0 development should go. It's not set in stone and is still a work in progress.

v0.5: New Civilizations and Leaders:

-Add in New Mexico and another American colony (see New Colonies/Leaders discussion)
-Add in more leaders for Utah and Oregon colonies
-Add in better leaders for the two leaderless Native colonies
-Unique units and buildings for different civilizations
-PacificCoast mapscript

v0.6: Victory Conditions:

-Statehood victory: Requires 50% statehood bar? Something else?
-Details to be ironed out how it should work
-Industrial, Economic victory conditions from Age of Discovery II?
-Railroad victory condition of some kind?

v0.7: Other Features:

-Stuff I haven't yet thought about
(In case you can't tell, the v0.7 section is a placeholder right now)

v0.8: Random Events:

-Assuming we can get them to work, random events will be added in
-Random events that hinder exploration outside of your borders
-Random events relating to Civil War, adjust prices of certain goods

v0.9: Balance, Graphics, Text, AI Work, Bugfixing:

-By this point, the core mod should be done, but, everything listed above won't be
-So for v0.9 and v1.0, I want to concentrate on these features
-Balance: anything that should be altered for balance reasons
-Graphics: There's a lot of missing graphics. We'll fill them in along the way
-Text: Both background text and documentation needs to be done
-AI Work: Any concept the AI has trouble will need to be resolved
-Bugfixing: Any unresolved bugs should be fixed

v1.0: Balance, Graphics, Text, AI Work, Bugfixing:

-By this point, the core mod should be done, but, everything listed above won't be
-So for v0.9 and v1.0, I want to concentrate on these features
