Question about WFYABTA

Ok, we've been playing the RK13 SG, it's on Emperor. We have Joao to Friendly (+14), we get WFYABTA when trying to trade his Physics?

Are there any "hidden factors" affecting our relationship? Or is it my misunderstanding of how WFYABTA works... I thought you never get it once you have a leader at friendly?

@Lansky, VoU: So is it because we took Gilgamesh as a vassal, now Joao is sort of "averaging" his relationship between himself and us AND Gilgamesh? Hrm... time to convert Gilga to Taoism I think.

Yes.
Taking vassals is a risky business. Every AI will see you AND your vassal as one empire relationwise.
A warmongerer like Gilgamesh tends to have enemies, so be carefull by vassaling them.

It will be extremely tough though to get you at an average relationship of friendly with Joao though.
 
Vassals are evil. They wholly screwed you up diplomatically (and not only).
They are good for being friendly trade-wise and on higher difficulties can upgrade junk units into modern ones... well they can vote for you. But that's almost all.
 
Put Gilgamesh in HR - it's Joao's favorite civic and he tends to stay in it a while. It should help get the Gilgamesh-Joao relationship friendly too.
