Today Take-Two, publisher of the Civilization franchise, reported its mostly dismal third quarter financial results. Across the board, from revenue to net income, the numbers were down from this time last year. Some highlights from the release:
Net revenue for the third fiscal quarter was $138.6 million, compared to $433.8 million for the same quarter of fiscal 2008.

Net loss for the third quarter was $55.5 million or $0.72 per share, compared to net income of $51.8 million or $0.67 per share in the third quarter of fiscal 2008.

For the nine months ended July 31, 2009, net revenue was $625.1 million, compared to $1,214.1 million for the same period a year ago.

A few other statistics of note: PC gaming rose relative to consoles, accounting for 14% of publishing revenue by platform, versus 2% last year. Xbox 360 and PS3, following last year's release of CivRev, declined. Most revenue came from North America as international revenue dropped to 26% of the total, down from 46% last year.

In other news, Take-Two announced a class-action settlement regarding the "Hot Coffee" controversy in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, as well as some financial practices. Take-Two itself settled for roughly $5 million, and the release noted that "Take-Two fully accrued for its portion of the settlement costs over several quarters ended April 30, 2009."

I don't understand the legal jargon anyone mind translating what the 'class action' suit was about?

it's about a [wiki=Hot_Coffee_minigame_controversy]non-PG-13 minigame[/wiki] that was hidden in GTA's files :mischief:

They have to realize that we need a new Civilization game for PC, the fans are hungry for it now, and it needs to be good. They have to start asap, and fund it with their last dimes before it's too late.

Yeah this is getting tedious.... I'm sick of hearing about console games, iphone games, remakes etc... give us what we want or we'll run ye out of town on a railroad

People in the CivFanatics forum want another Civilization game made... who would've guessed?

On the bright side, at least we're all fanatically devoted to a good game franchise.
