The first of 3 Succession Games to help us all bring up our difficulty level. I am currently a Monarch level player though I have won higher level games, few and far in between. Starting with Emperor then Immortal, the goal is to give us all a deity win by game 3. The game is open to all members and is aimed at players that want to get past the Monarch hump and 1 or 2 veterans that are at Emperor or above to help us improve our game. Hoping to start the game over the weekend and would like an Emperor or above player to start the game.

Chapter I
Rise of the Emperator

Game Settings
Elizabeth of the Romans
BTS patch 3.19 (No Mod)
Map- Large, Inland Sea
Difficulty- Emperor
Speed- Epic
Victory Conditions- All

Went ahead and got it started since we are on Epic we'll do 30 turns the first round. We ended up with Elizabeth, could of been worse. Financial is a godsend on Emperor and Philosphical will give us a great GP farm. Let me get started because this was a busy first 30 turns.

Couldn't of asked for a better starting location.

With free mining I went ahead and started a worker and Bronze Working (BW). Plan to Mine the Gems and start chopping a settler. Warrior will scout the borders and stick around for barb defense and settler escort.

Spoiler :

3600bc
After 400 years of fogbusting our perimeter the Roman Warband came across a peaceful village.

3425bc
Thousands of Roman citizens migrated to the western hills and began building mines Gems in search of fortune. Little do they know I plan on taxing their asses to the hilt then send them to chop some forest for a new settlement.

Finished BW and began researching Agriculture (recommend Wheel next on the techpath).

Throughout the years our Warband has been busy sending me Caravans of foreign dignitaries they've met while fogbusting....
3575bc- Mehmed II of Zulu
3550bc- Bizmarck of Carthage
3475bc- Lincoln of Japan
3450bc- Tokugawa of Korea
3300bc- Ragnar of Ethiopa
Quite a few intesting rivals but we'll save that conversation for once we discover their locations.

3250bc
Working the Gems for research and started chopping wood for the settler. We should both do Dotmaps soon, though we will no doubt settle the next city for the copper SW. Delayed adopting Slavery until we need it, no need risking a slave revolt until we need to whip. Start your 30 turns when you're ready though I would like to follow the 24//48 SG rule.

If no one else joins by tonight I'll go ahead and play the next set if Autocon wants to wait for the 4th spot. Come on someone, anyone  .

Unrestricted Leaders, playing Elizabeth of the Romans? This proves to be an interesting game, especially with the starting location. Our capital is probably a great spot to be a GP Farm and we can if we can find some Iron we can steamroll with Praets, and we should probably settle South first, as there are a number of hills that we could turn into a production site.

Welcome to the game Korias. You can take the 2nd spot if you want it.

I like the Copper/Corn spot to the SW (4S 3W) for a descent production city that will give us axes. It has an Copper to mine, 4 hills + river grassland for farms.Thinking back now I probably should have chopped another Worker before starting the settler. Probably should also research Myst before Wheel to chop a Monument in city 2 ASAP. Let me know your thoughts for our coming settler. I think Rome would make a great GP farm but consider a cottage farm there. The 50% commerce bonus of the capital once we research Bureaucracy and our financial trait that will also give us an early commerce bonus (+1 on all river tile cottages).

To all lurkers:
All input and criticism is welcome even if you do not want to join. This is a game to help us learn and improve our difficulty level.

Well, what we REALLY need right now is some sort of defense for Rome- 30 turns in, even on Epic, when playing Emperor difficulty makes me cringe slightly. I'd like to get at least two warriors set up, possibly axes depending on how quickly we can get the copper online. I'm against running
Bureaucracy as, while our financal trait gives us a boost on riverside cottages, we're philosophical and should use extra cities for cottage spam to boost our economy while our GPFarm bulbs our way to victory. That's the REAL strength of Elizabeth- she gets a very strong hybrid economy due to her traits.

I think we can wait on the Wheel for now- instead we should REALLY focus on getting some city sites up so we can really defend ourselves when the barbarians start coming.

For the next set, out goals should be:

1: Settle the Copper City.
2: Get Copper Online, build some defensive axes for Rome and Copper City.
3: Revolt into Slavery, get some population in Rome up and running to work some more tiles.
4: Finish researching the Wheel, use worker to hook up resources.
5: Research path towards Agriculture -> Pottery -> Writing? If we get writing we can whip a library, run Scientists in Rome, pop an early GSci and either Bulb or build an Academy.

How does that sound to you?

Defense- This is why I am stressing getting the copper city plus mysticism/wheel for axes. Warriors just won't do on Emperor usually see Archers and Spears very early. We should probably switch to Myst this turn then go Wheel-finish Agriculture-pottery-writing. I trust your judgement so I'm with you on whatever decisions you make.

GP Farm- I won't argue getting a GS in Rome and building Academy but I think we can find a better spot for a GP Farm allowing our Capital to be a strong Commerce Powerhouse unless we decide to run a specialist economy. Either way this is a SG so the decision is yours. I have had alot of success using my Capital as GP farm but everything I read on the forums says to use your Capital for commerce not specialists beakers. Cottages/Bureaucracy/Wall Street in Capital, Farms/National Epic/Oxford University in GP Farm.

Well, Rome is in a prime spot for a GP Farm OR a Beaurocapital. So the real question is, do we want to move out Capital at some point?

I never really play on Emperor level, so I'm new to this. I usually play Prince. But I'm in agreement with your research path- Myst->Wheel->Agriculture->Pottery->Writing. I'm thinking that the Buildpath in Copper City will be Monument -> Worker -> Worker-> Axe ad infinitum, while Rome's buildpath will be Worker-> Monument (to get some population up and ready to be whipped or to work other tiles) -> Settler, and goals will be those set? If I can, I'll work towards getting a Library in rome to run the Scientists.

Consider this a very tentative "got it", as I have to visit colleges tomorrow and wont be able to play until much later in the day. I can reliably do it on Thursday, however.

I agree Rome can go either way GP or Cottage but but since we already have gems and most of our cottages will start with 3 commerce (financial trait) I think the early benefits greatly favor cottages. However we can still take advantage of the Philosphical trait and get an early GS in Rome after we whiip the library. As for Copper City (think we should keep the name?) Chop Monument--> Worker--> 2 Axes. I think defense may have to trump the second worker unless we have time before the pop. Once again you will be in a better position to make that call. Thursday is fine I'll see if Autocon is up for the 3rd spot this weekend.

I'd like to get involved if you'll have me. I haven't played in a while, but just getting back into CIV. I'd request to be 5th on the list as I wouldn't want my limited skills to bring the group down in the critical beginning stages of a game.

If you're up for an Emperor level game then we'd be glad to have you. There is usually plenty of discussion before each set of turns so you'll have a good idea where we are going with the game.

I'd usually play a single player game on prince or monarch so I don't think Emperor for SG is a stretch, but its up to you guys.

I have the save, played, and am writing the report- the only issue it being midnight and with school tomorrow, I wont have a chance to finish until tomorrow morning. Sorry about it being this late, my schedule's been packed recently with college applications.

No worries ;) .

I've patched my game to 3.19, and since spot 3, is still open, can I play next?

Well, OS got corrupted- reformatting as I type, but not enough room on my laptop to redo the save. I can either be skipped or we can wait for me to restart my computer. Your choice on this one, it'll take a bit to get everything set back up.

Sorry to hear your computer took a crap on ya  . It's happened to me a few times so I feel your pain. We are really behind on playing the save so I think you and mfie shouldswitch spots. This will keep you from feeling rushed and get the game back on track.
