Hello all and welcome to the Immortal University! This series was started a long time ago to move a group of the forum's players to the next level. Are you ready for the U?

This is the 33nd in the storied series.

We will uphold the university's traditions...smacking down the hapless AI!

Our leader this time around:

Good starting techs, decent UU, very average UB. Let's see the CKN nonsense! Let's see it!

Here's the start:

As usual, this is the first Fractal map I generated. One thing you can't complain about is the start. This is a lot of food and it will make a good basis for however we wish to use it.

Huts and Events are off.

Copy and Paste of the doctrine:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE, go ahead, but I'm not peeling off the AI bonuses. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve. Just remember, there are immortal bonuses and that's not going to change unless you WB edit it.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs .

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

The save!

I would settle in palce. I dont share Kadazzle's confidence re a resource popping (although he is hopefully right).

Also, if you settle 1S, you miss out on a hill, and this is obviously a production poor capital.

i'm not that good, but this is a much tougher start than it looks. i've restarted several times and can't get this to work.

any recommendations an tech order? i assume fishing or BW. also, this is where the worker vs. workboat really gets me. workboats just seem to take to long

^ I fooled around with this for a little bit and I think that you've got yourselves I nice challenge on your hand. There's some good news and some bad news.

Settle in place, Worker first. Fishing->BW would be the tech order I'd follow, chop out the WB with overflow to a Warrior. Gonna give this a shot, been about time I move to Immortal :P

Played around till 500 ad. Tough map...and I'd say it's University of the Desert, Rainforest Mountain dwellers :P

Hey, spoiler tags guys (or at least even more elliptical comments please).

I plan to lose yet another Immortal University game, and I want to lose it fair and square :)

to apprx. 1AD + several restarts

Spoiler :
I restarted this several timse playing to about 1AD. At first I restarted because I just knew epic fail was in store. Expanding is so slow because you are so far away from anything and I just settled the sucky horse plot nearby to get that going at least. Took out a barb city easily and then the economy crashed - just wasn't getting anywhere.

Note: For some reason the barbs were terribly strong on this map. There is no sense in a warrior beating a Qui archer in a forest or jungle.

Dropped down to Monarch and had a some success teching to Aesthetics and trading it to catch up somewhat. Switch to Bud and became friends with Asoka and Pacal. Was on the path to building the Great Library and Parth in two cities as I settled the marble/iron to the south. THEN FRIKKIN PACAL attacks me and takes my eastern most city even though I quickly filled in some well promoted archers and chariots. First swordsman takes out my best promoted anti melee/DRII/CGII archer fortfied(unbelievable)! As he's taking my city I'm prepping a counter attack which is hard with archers and it took me forever to get metal in play(I had chariots on the way and swords in the works with new iron city near southern desert. THEN I see an Asoka SoD outside my Parth building city(just below that mountain chain). He attacks - GAME OVER.

I was attacked by both religious partners! Granted I was lacking in power due to keeping forces low so I could tech. My bad but I can't believe I was attacked by both religious buddies at the same time.

Very frustrating map. I have a long way to go

Gave this a try on Emperor to around 550 BC:

Spoiler :

No kidding, this is a tough map. Settled in place, teched BW/fishing and chopped WB:s for massive food as well as one for scouting.

Started teching towards Great Lighthouse. Didn't grab archery which would prove to be fatal. Went exploring and only found djungle. Decided to go for the good city sites that were pretty far away, meanwhile building GL in capital.

Barbarians were constantly coming at me, first with a lot of archers, then they started throwing axemens at me. Not having found any copper, and without archery, I built walls and whipped/chopped as many warriors I could, but they fell to the power of those damn axes.

Overall just a tough starting location. My first instinct was to explore the island to the east, but that was claimed by the japanese. If I would have another go I would definitely go archery to utilize the protective trait, and maybe rex a little less aggressively. It's hard though, because the other pieces of land available are all djungle and with no production. The gold site basically pays for itself, but having that mountain range in between it and the capital doesn't really help.

i'm not that good, but this is a much tougher start than it looks. i've restarted several times and can't get this to work.
Fishing->Bronze Working->Sailing, I think. Worker -> Work Boat (to pop2) -> Settler.

On the bright side, at least Qin's Protective.

one of ugliest maps i played in a while.
Spoiler :

Second city
Spoiler :
goldn.jpg

I was forced to settle on hill due to barbs. Not having a pig in first ring cost me a lot. But... Well... Afterwards i figured it was my only source of iron... i mean metal any metal.
Lucky me. Without it i would suck so hard that it is not even funny.

Third:

No can anyone exp0lain how these cities are not connected:
Spoiler :
connectsc.jpg

cost me a lot resource wise.

I got pissed on Tocu so settled on his mass for better trade routes [was loosing temper i guess]

Spoiler :
xian.jpg

in da end i settled music GA in there, cause of extreme angriness.

I built Glibrary [as tocu gave me marble, we renogatioted few times in end he has horses for marble. Fine trade for me.]

Spoiler :
glib.jpg

Won music race forgetting these neighbours don't have much to trade [or are totally unwilling to do so]
Spoiler :
musicqk.jpg

I actually entered fake war with french, which made Toku rather happy person.

Since swords do well against barbs...
Spoiler :
barbs.jpg

If i can get Goth i will end at least with seven cities which means i can have national wonders without stress.

Unluckily land in between barbs won't be free for ever

Techs:
Spoiler :
techs.jpg

Meh, i would like to be confu but indians somehow do not want give me chance. Trades are very bad, while i am a bit afraid Pacal might tech away.

Well, i am gaining some chance there, and giving Asoka's and Pacal unit build probablities i could do some nice globe drafting war. Not sure i will play this to end.

i actually do not like bug 4.1... BUffy is better by a mile.

To all having barb problems:
Spoiler :
 You put one archer in that place near jungle sugars and other in between that and and cap. Solves barb issue for long.

I killed grand total of 2 warriors and 5 archers - two of later were in that barbarian city...

Overall, it is what you get while picking random fractal save.

@roberterikksson = whatsup with the graphics in your game? the jungles look bizarre

Some thoughts
Spoiler :
I can't see why everyone thinks this map is hard? I researched AH then BW, built worker then a warrior and started settler @ size 2 and settled 1NE of wheat to claim both wheat and horses without need for mysticism for monument. 2nd city Makes a few chariots before it starts library.

Lots of good land to settle here, so peaceful victory shouldn't be to hard

@Soirana

Simply building a road to the coast does not connect it to the trade network. A city or fort with coastal access is necessary for that.

must be a case. Well, you live and learn... [although iirc, building road to river usually works.]
