Campaign???

I don't think it actually does anything.

I can't seem to find any difference in the game whether it is selected or not selected. Was wondering what purpose it serves. What is it SUPPOSE to do. If it has no purpose, if it does nothing, why is it there?

The first thing I would think of... is that it would probably have been meant to have campaigns in order. Of course if there is no other way to set what campaign biq comes after that one, the only other way it may be setup is to have the file names be the same with a number behind them to determine their campaign order. Once you beat the first campaign, it would progress to the next. But if it was not implemented by the dev's, it may not be coded in the game either. That's a tough one to test out.

I think it was something to do with the 9 Conquests for the Hall of Fame. Completely useless to us AFAIK

That sounds plausible as this cracked version has buttons that were hidden in the original release that the dev's used in creating the original game. This may be one of those hidden "buttons".

If what you said in your post is true, it could be useful in creating a series such as "Campaigns WW2", or "Napoleonic Wars 1st Coalition, 2nd Coalition etc."

It might be just for Hall of Fame reference... Try opening one of the Firaxis-created conquests (not the MP version, but the ones in the Conquests subfolder) and see if they have it checked/numbered...\

I checked the biqs in the conquests sub folder and it is not checked in any of them.?????

Firaxis has originally planed to give us sub-scenarios ala the "Panzer General" game series. To make it work they have inluded these counter ,to guide the player thru a WW1 or WW2 and so on campaign. But at some point they have canceled the idea and as usual by Firaxis they have not deleted the cource code entries. ... Dead end.
The idea itself shows that it was one of their very first adjustments while developing the game.

Panzer General works that way : You play WW2 in about 20 sub-scenarios. Units get promotions and can be taken over to the next sub-scenario (if the unit survive).
With some slightly changes in the source we could play that too - I`m sure.:)

Please read the thread from Thunderfall or these Firaxis programmer or Mendax. Then you will realize that not working features has been enabled with the `Hack`.

I was hoping that this is what it was meant to do and feared that your observation was correct, that once again firaxes had failed again.

This would have been a great feature IMO. I wonder if there is someone who might be able to enable this feature.

Isn't this similar to what steph is talking about doing in his thread:http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=320860
Or maybe an alternative.

If I had to guess, if Firaxsis actually spent the few moments to plop the option in the editor originally, then chances are there may be some actual source code still in the game that does something. And chances are, if they only hid the option in the editor, chances are they probably did not remove any code that was added in the game.

Of course, there is no apparent way to link campaigns together, unless it is done in a simple way such as by a BIQ naming/numbering method. Very unfortunate, it would have been a great addition IMO.

I think Hikaro may be on the right track. In the scenario screen of the editor The scenario name (title) is Mesopotamia and the scenario folder is Mesopotamia, however the BIQ file name is
1 Mesopotamia. Also, the campaign box has numbers from 0 - 9. There are only 9 Hall of fame scenarios in conquests/conquests sub-directory.

If in fact this is tied to the Hall of Fame scenarios there must be some code in the game related to that. It would then be a matter of finding that code and seeing what info it tracks and seeing if that is useful and whether it can be used.

Didn't you have to complete the conquests in order when the game was first installed.

BTW, it doesn't show in my editor.

Yes that is correct, if you use Hall of Fame. I believe if you use conquest/conquests, you can select in any order. The Hall of Fame screen has a Button you select that says NEXT. You click that after you complete each campaign

I just ran a test in Hall of Fame. I copied one of my scenario folders to the conquests sub folder and renamed it Mesopatamia. I then copied the Biq file for that scenario to the conqests sud folder and renamed it 1 Mesopatamia. I then went to Hall of fame and clicked the next button. The game started to load, hit 30% and I got "Missing entry in "text/pediaicon.txt": ICON_BLDG_Naval Academy. There is no naval academy in the Mesopatamia scenario.

The pediaicon .txt file in my scenario does have it. I believe the program is reading my BIQ file but not my pediaicon.txt file. I then copied my pediaicon.txt file to the text folder of the original Mesopatamia text folder and got the same result.

My conclusion is that this is tied to the Hall of fame. Now we just have to figure out how to make it work.

So you mentioned that the Conquests scenarios did not have the campaign option checked, but in the hall of fame they must be played in order. Something has to be telling them which order to be played, unless it is hardcoded.

The only problem with that would be, in order for someone to make a campaign scenario, they would have to overwrite, or rename all the others.

If it is not totally hardcoded, and there is a way to add additional campaign scenarios in there, that would be a terrific find/addition.
