Hi, all.

I love Civ4, and after playing vanilla for almost a year, I broke down & bought the Civilization IV ~ Complete Edition. For the life of me, I cannot patch BTS to 3.19. The in-game patch check says, "Hey...there's an update for ya. Wanna grab it?" I say, "Sure."

Trouble is, I d/l the 165M's-worth, it tells me to click 'Ok' to shut down the game & it'll go ahead & take care of it... no dice. I've tried the manual method, but even that doesn't work.

Kinda wish I'd purchased each expansion pack separately, because I have a feeling BTS would patch w/o a hitch. Can anyone please give me any advice as to how I can get this puppy patched properly? Thanks ~ Bamm

Indeed I did attempt to run it as admin, to no avail. Thanks for the advice, nonetheless.

I've sent Take-Two Interactive a very polite email this morning, on the off-chance that some gracious tech might have a few tricks up his/her sleeve. Not holding my breath, though. I may be forced to rummage through the 90%-off bin at Best Buy in order to secure an actual BTS expansion disc. Another option is good ol' eBay, I s'pose.

At any rate, in the mean, I can always continue to hone my exceedingly paltry Civil skills w/ the 3.17 version.

I installed my Civ4 Complete to a custom directory (d:\games\civ4) without boosting privileges or anything like that. I then ran the manually downloaded 3.19 installation before I even started the game, again without "run as admin" and it patched everything perfectly. I don't recall now if the default location displayed for the patch installer was where I actually put the game, or if I had to change that to match.

My only suggestion to you would be to try uninstalling Civ and starting from scratch, into a non-hidden, non-protected location (i.e. not the Program Files (x86) folder), and then patching manually without the game ever realizing it wasn't version 3.19.

Perhaps I was just lucky with Civ4, to make up for the fact that my DVD drive didn't like the Win7 install disk (had to swap the drive out), and that I completely hosed my wireless network from the router on out trying to set things up (I hate wireless networks with a passion, but it's the only thing that works with my floorplan).
