Help with Pirates! Yarr! by Paasky

Hello everyone.
I've collected a great group of players who have been ready ro play Pirates! Yarr! mod.

It had never launched due to stability issues but at futher look the issues really lie just in the Civilopedia, And I understand how much work is needed so this is not what I'm after.

Can I get someone to look over the map file itself to;
1 ensure all leaders can be human controlled
2 a plague occurs randomly giving all players an equal chance to get it
3 and a quick look at our PediaIcons.txt located here

I and these players do thank you

Take any liberty you see fit in any aspect of this mod, If you have the time we appreciate it.

Itis a shame that againstthe flows work is not here, you can find his comments threw out the thread but then disappeared, here is an example

One thing I remember being mentioned was the fact that the pirate factions have a capain or 2 but no way of getting others if they die at sea, I think a buckaneer should able to be upgraded would you think so too?

To answer your question, off the cuff that sounds reasonable. That said, I will have to look at how that unit fits in to the general scheme.

I think the first thing I need to do is fix the ped.txt file which I have started. Pls go to your thread and view the comments I posted there. Post your responses here pls as I will use this thread to communicate my suggestions to you.

Take your time and do what you want, don't let it upsset you if the condition or context is out of sorts.

I am subscribed both here and there and will update these guys to your efforts and point them here as well.

You must enjoy this kind of work to take this kind of thing on, I applaud you.

I have downloaded these new files and copied the files in Conquests\Scenarios. When I loaded it I received this load error

OK I'll fix that and reupload it. BTW all PRTO_**** , the PRTO should be capital letters. Both in the BIQ and the pediaicon.txt file.
 
What is the keeper and what is he suppose to do.

I see you have Barbarians in the game, do want barbarians?

The resources pcx needs fixing.

Why are reef and Carrack marked not used?
Oh wow a keeper? As I played as the Swahbucklers I did not come acrossed any so I couldn't say

Resources? If you have the time and energy as i said, If you can fix this baby up I bet you'll get many applauds.

not too long ago paasky told an editor like yourself that he was simply washed his hands of it and that if anyone wanted to take on finishing it just give he the intial credit, so for what you have done already you should start a new thread stating that Pirates Yarr!!! becomes stable and I bet a lot of people will d/l it to play, I'd post on the original as well
 
I can see why he gave up on it. It needs a lot work. Maybe even a complete overhaul. :lol:
OK here we go.
I am going to need to reread the entire original thread to get a feel for what was originally intended. Then I will remake the entire scenario. I will keep you posted.

Here's what I think, when Paasky envisioned this he saw it as a single player game with a possibility of multiplayer ability. I have played it a bit as each leader and find each avery unique giving everyone a chance to suceed.

As one posted there he said it was based on "The Age of Sails" I think only a hint.

What I think based on loading every leader up as a hotseat game and playing for days at it is this, whe you realy get down to it the human element chances the concept of it by leaps and bonds!!

When these treasure are spawned and they are carried to a ship and that ship set sail, you could believe your safe by an alliance but at the last leg of that journey home deceptions befalls the Captain and a new Captain may seek that reward, secondly if you choose to escort your treasurys by a great armada considering the journey to suceed only to find your coast ravished by any number of possibilities.

So there is absolutely the deepest of possibilities here.

I did notice one thing a though was a bit out of sorts though, the Undead faction is present and equally hates all or they should if don't but they can be destroyed, I have killed them, so I propose they become a very scary part of the game, I'm not sure If I mean to make them indestructable or have extreme defense or something, i'm just saying withing 40 turns I destroyed thier flagship while at the same time set upon harrassing everone else.

And I'm not sure if this has been added but random occuring plagues, plagued these times, I'm sure you know, but the mechanics of this in modding what is the possibilities? Will plagues only strike cities or will they occur on ships? If in fact a ship is plagued can it become one of the Undead?

When my Swashbuckler captured ships, these ships were not upgradeable, I would assume it is that way all the way around.

And if we are able at a point to build an additional flagship, we'll not be able to put a Captain at the helm.

I will start a new thread and call Pirates Redux as soon as I can get a finished scenario. Until then, I will use this thread as a development thread. Anyone interested can post there comment and suggestions here. From time to time I post updates here. I am currently working on a campaign series for my Napoleonic wars scenario so my time will be divided, but I try my best to keep you inforrmed.

LOL yes a very large epic mod. took months to create working from 12 to 20 hours a day. :lol::lol:
Their will be a series of campaigns to follow. I intend to use some of the napoleonic units for this pirate scenario as well as some others that I think will fit well here. I am working on the Pirates map now, making some changes.When I finish that I will post for viewing and comments.

Wow cool, well your either in another time zone or your a night owl, anyrate I gotta turn in.
Thats a good bit of hours invested, I manage 3~5 hours a day playing C3C pbem turns and another hour or so writing about them. Which brings me to this. When I found this game about a year ago it took such a hold on me that right then and there I decide to write a novel based on the 17th Century Pirates. My main character is based on the Swashbuckler character and was born from a Redheded Scottish Warlord and mothered by a rescued black slave, so as Jack grows up he is black with red hair and all of his life had been treated very bad. So as the story goes Jack is not a hollywood pirate like Jack Sparrow. And then a Catholic Priest is tasked to spread Catholicism in the new world and the only person to allow this passage for free (priest have no money) is Jack, So Jack indentures this poor priest and turns this holly man into a killer by day and praying in the night. But before the 3 year contract expires they both rub off on each other.

The depth of the story is how cruel life can be and how hard survival is when the world opposes you including the perils of the sea itself.

Anyway have fun with what your doing

Speaking of which, I will try to get the campaign screen done and test it out for you (sorry forgot about it; too much going on! :crazyeye:).

BTW, here are the pirate/sailor graphics I can convert if you need any of them.
