This thread is for the preparation of a NES where players would play corporations. They would have to make factories, hire workers, investigate potential improvements for the factories, buy raw materials and sell manufactured products, seal deals... All of that.

So far, I have few things, but I think it is a good head-start:

Each turn would last 3 months, starting in the year 1950. (I guess this would be a good point to start)

Stats:
Name of Corporation/Player
CEO: Just a name for the stories.
Subsidiary Companies: (If you have these, they will act as different arms of the same body (the Corp), helping each other. For example, a Corporation could have 4 different SCs: one dedicated to extracting iron from mines; a second one dedicated to the construction of trains and railways, using the iron the 1st company extracts; a third one dedicated to the deployment of railroads, and a fourth for the transportation of people in those trains the 2nd company build along the railways the 2nd company made and the 3rd deployed)
Gross Income / Net Income: (GI is the money the enterprise earns between sales and deals, while NI is the GI minus the money spent on taxes)
Account: (What Treasury is on other places, basically what you have on the bank: you may be able to ask for a loan if you find yourself short on money, but remember that you have to give it back with interests)
Products: (You can offer anything you think the market may buy, but be careful, for at some time you might get some backslash if the tastes of the public change or aren't suited to what you want to give them)
Properties: (You start with 1 factory and 1 small office block, but you may expand by buying more factories, bigger offices, laboratories or even lands in which you can do whatever you want. This includes the properties of all subsidiary companies in the Corporation (you will require at least 1 factory and 1 office block per company, although factory may be changed to whatever the company needs))
Workers: A/B/C/D (There will be 4 kinds of workers: normal workers (A), specialized workers (B), executives (C) and investigators (D). Each of them has a different salary (but, for simplification, all workers of a kind will have the same salary) which will detract to your GI, but each guy can do one thing: normal workers fabricate the products at a normal rate and can be used to build new factories on land; specialized workers fabricate products at a higher rate and may be used to do special things; executives can be used to lead factories, do paperwork and close deals; and investigators may be used to ascertain whether the quality of the products you buy/sell is good enough as well as starting special projects that may help you to improve your products or obtain things that may help you in your task. If there is more than one company in the Corporation, there will be different sets of numbers)
Workers' Ability: A/B/C/D (Basically, the higher the numbers, the higher the salary and the better things they make. Like with the previous stat, the more companies your Corp has, the more sets of numbers it'll have)
Projects: (if you are, for example, trying to find a way to make the cigarrettes you sell more healthier for the human body, this is where you will know how much it costs and how much time it'll take)
Deals: (tells you if you have a deal with other corporations (or the State) in order to buy or sell things to them: a corporation that dabbles in iron mining could sell the iron it sells to a corporation that makes railways; at the start, you will need to find buyers for your products and sellers for the raw materials you need until you can do those things with a company of your own)
Popularity: (the more popular you are, the more products are bought)

Corporations may buy and sell stock in order to win money. If you sell more than 50% of the stock, you lose control of the company.

In order to make sure that all the companies & corporations have competition, on the start you can only choose between 5 industries: Railroads, Tobacco, Chemistry, Weaponry or Automobile. If we change the starting date to, for example, the year 2000, we could change the Weaponry for Videogames.

Please, do not fear to make your ideas known. You can also make your reserves if you want to play.

When I get 2 or 3 players per industry, we could start the game.

EDIT: This would be a blueprint of how I want you to put up your reservations:

Name of Corporation/Player: Mikkanan Incorporated/Milarqui
CEO: Mikka Hammerst
Corporation Stock: Mikkanan Company (100%)
Subsidiary Companies (Main Corp/Other Corps/Minor Stockbrokers) (Products): Mikkanan Company (100%/0%/0%) (Railway Manufacturing)
Gross Income / Net Income: 0 T/Quarter / 0 T/Quarter
Account: 1.000.000 T
Stock:
Properties: 1 Small Factory, 1 Small Office Block.
Workers: 100 workers/10 specialized/5 execs/5 researchers
Workers' Ability: 1/1/1/1
Projects:
Patents:
Deals:
Popularity:

I'm quite interested, and will write some things out later tonight.

interested. Watching with /enter synonym for interest here/

If I may, at this point in history, it would be best to change from railroads to trucks, the US economy was beginning to rely heavily on trucks at this time.

The Trucker slogan was, "Just in Time" which became the transportation of choice for many suppliers and stores. They can also go literally anywhere, trains could not. Many times the trucks can go places like small communities that a railroad would assume a waste of money to lay tracks there.

Just a thought. If you do change it to trucks, I will construct a company. Otherwise I may or may not join.

Also, I am a trucker, so if you have any questions feel free to ask me, but they pretty much operate similar to railroads, they have fuel issues, repairs, a fleet, etc... The only difference is that trucks cater to a wider market than trains.

Interest.

The railroads aren't about railroad transporting, but more about building the railways. Trucks would be included in the Automobile section.

I'm interested and should break something over your head for beating Nuke Kid and myself to this.

Prepare to have an automotive company in the USSR.

Ahh, ok, I will start a trucking company. Count me in.

I was planning to have all of this happen in one fictitious country, so that we can make sure that there won't be many problems. I'll probably use some map generator to create such a country. Or else, if someone is willing to give me a hand, I would be thankful.

EDIT: I'm trying my hand with the Greenfish Map Generator, but it doesn't exactly paint the cities in good positions (there are situations in which the name isn't well written at all, so it doesn't work perfectly, but it is a start)

Extra ideas for the NES:

Each Corporation and Company will have a new stat: Stocks.

The Corporation Stocks will be the percentage in stocks of each company the Corp has. That way, we can now which is the control the Corp has of each company, as well as the money it wins from having those options. The Corporation may also sell the options they have in order to earn money, but they will have to be careful with the stock market, as selling too many of those options could pull those options' price down and leave you penniless.

The Company stocks will tell which percentage of the company stocks are held by the mother Corporation, other Corporations and individual stockholders. If a corporation has more than 50% of a company's stock, that company will become a subsidiary of the corporation.

Also, I think that the Weaponry industry isn't exactly useful in this moment, so I have decided to go for a new idea: Construction. You have the builders, the architects, and you would have your researchers looking for better and sturdier ways to build, as well as things to build.

Humm, I doubt I have the time for this but it looks interesting. A couple of questions: Will this be "politically correct"? What I mean is, this is happening in one fictious country, I assume it will be roughly like the USA, which means a good large population, relatively low taxes, and on technological par.

So my question, assuming this, is: Can we exploit other countries? Like, say, have people in lesser developed lands harvest grains/fruits/drugs at basically no salary, supressing them with our superior military capability? Are there international markets where some wares might be sold for a better price or bought at a bargain?

International wares will be there, but I'm not sure of how to handle that. Let's say that there will be international wares, but there are taxes that might make them cheaper or more expensive. The government wants to make the local resource industry more important to the people, after all.

Bring on the NES!

Still, it'd be worth it if all I had to pay the workers on a bananaplantation was their food and a round of lead once in a while, excuse me for being direct but that's capitalism for you..?

OK, on the start, this will be what you have:

  • 1 Company (your starting company)
  • Property: 1 Small Factory/Storage, 1 Small Office
  • Workers: 100 Normal Workers, 10 Specialized Workers, 5 Executives, 5 Researchers
  • Account: 1,000,000 T (T stands for Talent, the coin of the nation in which this game is played)

Also, salaries:
  • Normal Workers: 250 T/Quarter.
  • Specialized Workers: 500 T/Quarter.
  • Executives: 1000 T/Quarter.
  • Researchers: 500 T/Quarter + 100 T/Quarter per Investigation Difficulty Level.
Of course, you can give them less (minimum salary is 200 T/Quarter), but you will have strikes assured if you try that unless you are in a big need of money.

Now, each turn will feature product offers and petitions of help from other companies and the government. For example, the Government may ask for a Construction Company to build a road between two towns, or a farmer may offer great loads of tobacco leaves at a good price. Of course, your corporations can ask Construction companies for help in the construction of better factories or offices blocks.

Research will take some turns to finish, and depending on how difficult it is, the more it will cost in time and money. Of course, building Laboratories will help in the long term.

Building costs: Small/Medium/Large (These prices are the normal ones, but construction companies may be able to do these for lower prices)
Factories: 100000 T/200000 T/300000 T
Office Block: 50000 T/100000 T/150000 T
Laboratories: 150000 T/300000 T/450000 T

Other possibilities could be discussed later. Just remember, push them here for later.

@Diamondeye: Considering that you are a newly created corporation, trying to influence a banana republic would be quite difficult.

Hey, Mil, do you want me to do some world building? I can get a map done easily, and I think I can make a world up, if you give me a deadline. Just send me a PM containing what needs to be on the planet country-wise.

Can I be a stereotypically and cartoonishly evil corporation? Engage in dumping of toxic waste, conduct experiments on people and fill the toys of children with lead. Just call me China.

You could try that. However, bear again in mind that you are starting as a small corporation, and thus that kind of ideas would be fairly difficult to implement.

However, I like to see that you are so enthusiastic about it. If you develop your corporation well, you will be able to expand onto doing those things and onto other kinds of companies.

Interest, then. Do you think it would be possible for a purely mercantile company (no actual production, just buy low sell high company) to survive? I would obviously need less actual workers, and more executives. Later on, when the company's developed, it could start other branches that had actual productions.

Or would it be much easier to start the other way around, producing one kind of thing and then later on developing the trader company?
