One thousand men, one thousand sins
In seven rooms, the ball begins
Outside, the masses weep and cry
Red Death has come, the end is nigh
Inside the prince named Prospero
Protected from the frigid snow
Decrees to all: Red Death is dead!
We dance and dine and feel no dread
Though six rooms contain rainbow’s hue
Red, Orange, violet, all through blue
The last stands empty, darkest black
In the corner the clock clangs the hour
Fearsome is its hypnotic pow’r
Then at midnight, a guest’s alone
The Red Death issues forth a moan
A bloody robe drapes over him
A bony mask and bony limbs
Chased by the prince to the last room
He turns around—the Prince’s Doom
The Lord falls dead at the sight
Around him nobles gasp in fright
And then as one, all men freeze
Their bodies seized by dread disease
And so each one falls to the Death
And so each one breaths his last breath
And so mankind’s last stronghold falls
And so the Castle has empty halls
And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death hold illimitable dominion over all.
