I haven't got any new clothes in two or three years expect here & there at thrift stores. Tired of t-shirts & flannels. I was looking for Hawaiian type shirts but with beautiful astronomical & natural scenes on them instead of boring palm trees. Maybe ambient dreamscape type stuff too. I prefer natural fabric but rayon or whatever is ok in an outer layer.

I kind of suck at google but I really did scope around a bit with various search terms.

To make this a discussion thread. Did you ever decide your clothes suck & reinvest yourself fashion-wise?

For a long time I couldn't be bothered with my clothes but I'm tired of looking grungy & I'm going to be getting a job so I want to look more classy. Also my relationship is FUBAR so it's a good time to reinvent myself all in all.

Nothing quite says class like a Hawaiian shirt with an astronomy scene on it! :goodjob:

As for me, no major revamping of clothes, though I did have to buy a bunch of professional clothes a few months ago.

Clothing is like cooking food or modern education. We didn't do it as hunter-gathers, so we don't need now. It's only modern advertising made by corporations that makes us want to wear clothes.

Just go as God man you, man!

I gotta agree, there is nothing really classy about a Hawaiian shirt. They are acceptable if actually *in* Hawaii, or for ironic purposes in certain situations.

I don't buy new clothes too often either, although, like fifty, I also bought a ton of new professional clothes (only to learn that my school doesn't require that I dress up).

I recently acquired a tweed sportscoat that I like very much, and sometimes wear to work (it makes me seem a little bit older, which is important).

Mars' guide to shirts:

Long-sleeved dress shirts are cool. Short-sleeved dress shirts are lame.
Polo shirts are good, either long or short sleeved. Stripes, dots and other patterns are lame.
Crew neck t-shirts are good, pockets aren't great, stick to solid colours without lame designs, slogans, etc.
Turtlenecks are classy.

Get shirts that actually fit you, you look ridiculous in either baggy shirts to too tight shirts.
Stay away from v-neck shirts, tank tops and Hawaiian shirts.

I'm not talking about Hawaiian shirts, just nice prints, stuff besides just stripes & plain collared button-ups. The Hawaiian comparison was poor because those are generally repeating patterns.

I already have normal professional clothes (button up collared shirts you wear with a tie). I just want vibrant (but not overly loud) stuff that isn't casual but isn't "normal-professional" either.

 I'd say Hawaiian shirts in Hawaii is so touristy that it isn't classy at all.

Anyways, thats what struck out to me in this thread.

Hahaha, I suck at threads. I shouldn't never mentioned Hawaiian shirts. Or classy. I just want what I want. I don't care about looking normal (classy being normal+). I've been looking normal (in the day I dress) for years now.

So you want something vibrant, abnormal and nonclassy.

No, I was thinking of something like this on a shirt. That's a far, far cry from what you posted. I don't want loud, I just want beautiful. If I'm going to get new, nice clothes I want them to be unique. I can get any traditionally "classy" stuff at thrift stores (except really nice suit coats but I already have a decent suit coat).

Or maybe something like this? There's got to be a company that can create quality clothes with prints like this? I mean I know they have t-shirts you can put a kid or friend's photo on but those look bad, stretch & fade quickly. Wouldn't work on a quality button up shirt.

I would recommend a shirt with the natural wonder of a crocoduck on it. Seriously.

Find a local artist who paints or dyes on silk. Then, buy plain silk shirts and let them create designs on them for you.

Look at the mens shirt collection especially ^^^.

Yes, every couple years I find a girl who I trust, somebody who has style, and I take her shopping with me. I spend a couple hundred $ and buy myself a bunch of new stuff.

This happened about 8 months ago, actually. My friend {censored} came to visit from Toronto - we went shopping,.. ran into a father's day sale, 50% off, i spent $400 on a TON of stuff.. @ old navy.. then we went to buy the pound (thrift store) and my friend found me some super cheap designer stuff that looks great on me.

Whatever you do, stay away from hawaiian shirts unless you wanna look like a tool.

I buy my own clothes, but it's nice to have backup sometimes, for them to say "dear lord don't buy that it makes you look like a butch lesbian fresh from Abu Ghraib", or to find things you wouldn't think to look at naturally.

I buy new t-shirts when I don't feel like washing the old ones. Same with socks and underwear actually. Hoodies I tend to buy if they are cheap - it's more important to have a wide variety of hoodies than to have expensive looking ones. I buy jeans when the old ones develop holes, and generally go for black or dark blue, not baggy, cos they're seriously 5 years ago, but also not those queer-ass drainpipe things that make you look like you picked the second tightest things in your girlfriend's wardrobe (who happens to be a boy, and is wearing the tightest things in his wardrobe). My most special purchases I reserve for jumpers and shoes.

I don't decide to "reinvent myself", I just buy what I look best in (I look good in everything).

EDIT: just saw the pictures you wanted on a shirt. My advice: don't do it, unless you actually live on a glacier, in which case you will camoflage so well that no-one be able to see that you're wearing it. I have seen your photos in member photos threads, and the ones where you're wearing "normal" clothes are significantly more attractive than the ones where you have a more "unusual" look.

You are asking a bunch of heterosexual, generally white males about fashion? We generally don't know much about fashion besides what our mothers said looks good on us. The best advice is to do what warpus did and have a female companion to help you pick out clothes that look good on you.

Speak for yourself.

I doubt anyone on this site is into fashion-industry fashion, which tends to suck anyway, but I'm quite capable of dressing to look good.

Sure, ask some female friends about fashion stuff, but some of them are going to have crappy opinions, and if you have no sense of style, you're still going to make poor decisions in matching your clothes.

You've got it ...
