According to the Civ 5 website apparently some kind of advisor system is in.
"Guided by a set of trusted advisors who will explain game functionality and provide counsel for significant decisions, even first-time players will be confident in the choices they make." http://www.civilization5.com/ Information: Features Whether Elvis is the culture advisor remains to be seen I suppose. I third this motion! I've missed the High Council as well. I hope the supposed advisors for Civ 5 will be like this.

I agree - the council & the palace was fun... the throne room I didn't like, though

I agree!
"All is well, sire! I'm off to oil my abacus!" "Build more units so our soldiers can bury their swords in the beating hearts of our enemies!" "That's for His Majesty to decide, Visigoth!" "Let's do lunch, sir." "Wise men say only a fool builds an empire without luxuries... king." "My talents go to waste, noble leader! Go explore!" |

Did you ever netflix a movie that you loved as a kid? Well it’s a bad idea, don't do it. You may have thought the council was fun 20 years ago but you have gotten used to a whole new level of sophistication in games and I dare say a new batch of lame jokes will never be as funny as you remember the original council being.

Oh man, I LOVED the high council in Civ 2! I was so disappointed when it didn't make a return in Civ 3. I would love for that feature to be added.

I only played Civ 2 a few times almost half my life ago, but one of the few things I remember from it was the advisors. So it's good to see that they will likely be back, although it'll be interesting to see what form they come in. You would think you'd have advisors to translate what leaders say (because they will be speaking in their native language), and then it seems from what is written about advisors that they will be in the game just like in Civ 2, in addition to that. Should be fun.

Yes! But not the same way ;-) As has been pointed out, it doesn't look (so far) that civ5 is going the "cartoon"look, but more rather the serious way. There of course can still be humour and I would love some sort of funny advisor set. But it would be foolish to try to recreate the civ2 humour, as has been pointed out, we will never again think it's that funny. So try something different.
