Arcadia is a planet much like Earth but it exists in an Alternate reality. The next one along to ours, so it is very similar. Civilisations have the same names, many leaders too. But the world was designed by a crazy group of Gods so it is not the same as Earth.

This forum is where these gods will decide the shape of the world and use it's peoples to play out some evil game where entire civilisations are just pawns.

This post is where their decisions will be written in electrons for all to see:

The World

If you are going to be busy post to let people know

What sort of world do we want. Pangea, continents, etc, Or maybe just random everything. I don't mind.

I'm OK with that.

The next question would how many? If there are 4 players do we have 2 continents with 2 players on each. What about AI? I would prefer none if we had 4 players.

I'd want to start in ancient.
Balanced resources

The size of map would depend on how long we want to go on.

Victory Conditions? Pretty much all of them except diplomatic. Unless you think you can persuade everyone to vote for you

Barbarians? I think we should have some, just for the fun.

I guess we should wait until we get a couple more people.

I'll play. all the above sounds fine. i'll be random leader as well.

Other questions are huts, events, and tech trading. I'mflexible but i'd vote yes, yes and no

Welcome Slaze
With 4 people in I'd agree on Yes Yes No too. 1 more player would be good.

What about sea level and islands and stuff, Do we want late contact between continents, or earlier. I don't mind either way. Just have to adjust your strategy to fit :)

I'll play, never played PBEM before.

I thought you were a civ 3 player Hawklord?

And Elric avatar and Hawklord handle makes me think you may be a Hawkwind fan ;)

So add Arioch as a god of course ;)

EDIT: If you are a Liverpool fan, I kill you first of course ;)

Five's a good number, although it makes me lean away from continents. Fractal? Pangea? But i could be talked into continents

If we want a game geared towards war, Pangea would work best. A game for teching and peaceful development would probably be best suited for a Big and Small map with islands mixed in (usually no isolation, unlike a fractal map). Continents mean whoever gets possession of his/her continent first wins.

Big and small can get a little too archepeligo-ish; I'd rather do a pangea. How about tectonics/lakes, it makes an interesting pangea.

Hey all, if anyone needs to drop out early, keep me in mind to takeover. Used to play CIV PBEM regularly and keen for a Civ IV game or two. Good luck with the game.

OK welcome guys.

We could have 6 players (that lets Andy in) on a normal size map with 3 continents and small islands to allow communication.
It would give both warmongers and builders a chance.

We don't want more 6 players in a pbem.

Any thoughts.

1. If you can be patient waiting for turns pbem is good fun:lol:
2. Yes CivIII but also CivIV, been playing more pbems in civIII as there seems to be more on offer. One reason I started this thread to see if I could get more going.
3. You are spot on been a Hawkwind fan through and through
4. OK
5. Way off beam here, I am a Geordie, just worked in Liverpool for 3 years but moved to London in December. So neither EFC or LFC just the Toon. Does that mean you don't have to kill me first. :p

Just a thought but we could start 2 games with 4 in each, one continents, one pangea.

Both small maps

6 is good. Continents seems to produce 2 generic landmasses. Custom continent has an option for three but i found the results to be all over the place. in some cases civs were isolated with and without contact, in some cases it produced very unbalanced starts - tundra starts.

If we want to go with the 3 continents route i suggest hemispheres. of the 3 maps generated in normal continents mode, one had the continents isolated, and the others had opportunities for contact with 2 ocean tiles between and 1 ocean tile between. (the other continent options are interesting, i enjoy varied, but would think normal would be the most balanced)

I'd would also consider a small size map if we don't want the game to get too epic, but am fine with standard as well.

Being a toon fan means you are off the hook Hawklord.

Hawkwind rock ;) Unfortunately my record player is broke and all my Hawkwind albums are on vinyl :( Choose your Masques probably my favourite. Saw them 5 times but haven't been to any of their gigs for many years (early 90s probably last time I went lol). I saw Huw Lloyd Langton doing a solo gig when I was at university.

I'm fine with 6 players.

I've never played MP before though ;)

How does tech trading work in PBEM anyway? But probably worth turning it off. I like huts and random events.

Random civs could be a good idea, but if I had to pick I'd go Hatty as first choice.

EDIT: Barbs on too, definitely. I wouldn't disable diplomatic victory 'cos building the UN could be worth it for things like nuke bans and anarchy free switch to civics in the late game. Obviously no-one is going to try and win a diplo victory ;) Presumably the game will turn into an axe-fest anyway so the UN won't ever be built
