1UP - first look on Civ5

Good work. :D

Yeah just saw it! :)

the only new info I found here is:

City States -- which are individual cities with their own technology tree
and A.I. personality that will never expand past its lone border but will play a big role in diplomacy
(you can be nice to a City-State, or raze it and face the wrath of one of its allies as a result).

Or how barbarians have a home city with their own technology tree as well
(watch out for barbarians wielding machineguns!).

City states will have their own technology tree but there is no tech trading. Maybe they will gift tech to you that you can't get if you are nice to them. Sounds really good. :goodjob:

They also mentioned alerts talking about losing a worker or settler. Perhaps workers are still in.

He talked about Alexander the Great?

You're Right... I think Greece is confirmed. (or maybe Macedonia or Helenists... or the Alexandrian empire, where every city you found (other than your capital) is called Alexandria)

we're down to one, Persia, Spain, Babylon, Sumeria, Mongolia

I thought Mongolia was already in? It better be or heads are going to roll.

That review is so slavish. :vomit:

And what about "This one-unit rule means that you actually have to think about how you deploy your military forces" ? I'm sure the reviewer hasn't played Civ4 much, but if he had he'd know you already do have to think about it. :yup:

I sometimes wonder how some people get their jobs. :shake:

The reviewer was just referring to the fact that sometimes the AI wouldn't behave like their historical counterpart. He was just using Alexander as an example. Was it his example or an example usde by Firaxis?

While I'm pretty certain that Greece will be in this is in no way confirmation.

This is however:

The GameSpot article mentions that the demonstration showed the starting moves of Greece.

I'm not sure if I understand correctly but the article implies that cities will have the ability to defend themselves with and without a unit present in it's hex.

That's how I understood it as well.
Putting a unit in a city will give it a defensive boost, but it is not required.
